You should definitely read them. They're really good, and if you do not have Beauty and the beast on DVD, send me a PM, and I can give you a link :) Also, at this point somebody might have uploaded the actual TV series to the archive but I have to check when I get home.

I have read the first one already and it's great! The second one will probably happen while sitting at the dr's office next week 🤣 (And I think I know someone with the DVDs, but if not, I will let you know when we get to the end of the current Colombo season. <3)

I haven't played any of the others either, and it's fine. This game is a giant combination of Dragon Age and D&D and Divinity Original Sin, and so if you like any one of those things it's absolutely worth it.

I have not played Divinity, though I've seen it when Thing 1 checked it out and it seemed quite good, and I do like TTRPG's and have a passing familiarity with other people playing D&D specifically? And we both know I love DA so... ALSO A COMPELLING ARGUMENT!

Meme has been having a lot of fun with it AND I WANT TO JOIN THE FUN, but I've never played this kind of RPG game before and historically I have been Bad At Figuring Out Problems (looking at you Lara Croft) but on the other hand i love DnD so....

I'll admit that the mechanics of the original BG is mostly why I never played it; too many dice rolls behind the scenes. Like, I love TTRPG's but I've never been good at keeping track of the actual rules I just bullshit with people I like a lot? Randomness/dice karma is fun when it's people, I find it less fun in CRPG's... I like to know WHY I failed or succeeded at things in computer games and what in theory is possible if I played differently.

Fair! If I do break down and get it I will probably also break down and find some mods to figure out some of the mechanics for me for much the same reason :D

I have found that even if I eventually break down and try the thing and like it, I am usually pretty sure that I wouldn't have been as in to it at the time that my gut went idk meh blurgh? so. Probably a good idea to trust your gut, no matter how incomprehensible it is. <3

I had wanted to make this post for a bit but I just never got around to it lol

So I know people have talked about about how Hiccup doesn't really fit into the typical gender roles of a Male Hero Character

He's quiet, polite, likes books, doesn't like fighting unless he has to, is generally just a softer hero than usual

And that's all true

But I haven't seen anyone mention how Stoick and Valhallarama also don't fit the typical Gender Roles of Mother and Father

Usually it's the mother that's kind and caring, takes care of the house and the kids

And the father is colder, more rough, distant

That's what the did in the Movies with Stoick and Valka

But Book Stoick and Valhallarama are the opposite of that

Stoick is the one who stays home and takes care of Hiccup, is openly affectionate towards him, is much more parental

And Valhallarama is more reserved, often gone, not very emotional, not particularly parental

It's never 'oh Valhallarama needs to stay home, be a mother, Stoick shouldn't have to do all this'

Those are just the roles they have

Idk I just think that's neat

Another thing i appreciate is that Valhallarama being less emotional isn't portrayed as a bad thing

Like her not paying attention to Hiccup, her often leaving, and Hiccup feeling unloved by her is the problem

But not the fact that she's unemotional

Once she explains things to Hiccup and he understands that she does love him, but she's not the kind of person to openly express that, he's not angry about it

He never expects her to become more loving and emotional

That's never something that she's supposed to do

Pretty much she just has to own up to the fact that she made mistakes and work to fix them and her relationship with Hiccup in a way that makes sense for her

She doesn't have to change her whole personality to be seen as good, as loving, as caring

She's allowed to be unemotional without being emotionless

As someone who's bad at emotion and is uncomfortable with verbally and openly expressing love and stuff, it's nice that she's not made out to be horrible because of that

I really appreciate that about her character

1. when you have cereal, do you have more milk than cereal or more cereal than milk? - more milk. i always end up putting too much.

2. do you like the feeling of cold air on your cheeks on a wintery day? - yes

3. what random objects do you use to bookmark your books? - library receipts, post-its, junk mail, pencils

5. are you self-conscious of your smile? - i think it’s one of the few things i’m not self-conscious about, actually. i like my smile.

8. what artistic medium do you use to express your feelings? - writing, often poetry but sometimes prose. i like creating playlists, too, and singing.

9. do you like singing/humming to yourself? - yeah, i sing to myself all the time. whatever song i have stuck in my head at the moment.

- a few

- my dog shiver is turning into a little old man, but he still acts like a puppy. he likes attention and whines to communicate. he'll greet you at the door and put his front paws on your thighs to say hi. follows you all around the house. loves to cuddle.

- my pigeon spirit is young and vocal. she coos for attention. when i go to sleep, she grunts every time i move to ask where i am and if i'm okay. i take showers with her and sit on the tile; she puffs up right into my side and sticks her wings out for me to splash water on her. she likes to be close to me to get neck scritches and push her head into my neck and preen every bit of me she can.

- a lot probably

- it's white wallpaper with pink roses along the top and ribbons of pink and green striped vertically. my mom chose it before i was born.

- they sort of remind me of dark water where everything is reflected back in it--not just the sky but the trees and people walking--and they make you want to look closer because you know there's something in there, it's not just a reflection, like flat glass. but it's hidden until you dio your hand in the pictures broken.

- i don't look at albums

- idk. i feel like i'd make the same mistakes if i went back, but the future scares me.
