the especially evil thing about the tumblr AI scraping being opt-out instead of opt-in is the number of artists who used to use tumblr but stopped for any reason, whether they just left the site or they got locked out of their account or even being dead, and are now unable to stop the work they posted to tumblr from being scraped

#i know there's at least one artist who used to post her art to tumblr but is now deceased. #qinni's well known enough that her art has already been stolen for AI stuff. so you could argue it doesn't make a difference. #but that doesn't mean more companies should steal her art. and what about the artists who aren't so well known?
