025 :: i got the girl
lilydillyjames:
Lily appreciated Matt’s interest in her new found Youtube hobby and she really did take his advice on board. It wasn’t as if she knew what she was doing either, they were both pretty clueless about it and her only reason for attempting it was so that she could find a network of support outside of Matt’s parent’s house. At his subtle hint about appearing on the channel, she chuckled and leant over to press a quick kiss to his lips. “I’ll keep it in mind when I get really desperate but I doubt my one subscriber would would care about Super Cute Baby Daddy. They’re probably an old pervert.” She grinned, though hoping it wasn’t the case. As talk moved onto the more serious matter of her mother, Lily could again appreciate the input from him, knowing that he only wanted what was best for her and their baby and she listened to his thoughts and nodded her head, smiling for a second at the touch to her belly. “I just know I’ve disappointed her and I’m not sure the baby being a girl is going to change anything. It might remind her more of me and what I was meant to turn out like.” She sighed shrugging her shoulders since they could on speculate on her mums reaction at that point.
Matt’s suggestion that she text her family was a sensible one that she couldn’t find fault with, so with a sigh Lily reached over to grab her phone from his nightstand, where she’d accidentally left it that morning, and brought up a new message. “Does ‘hi mum, having a girl, no she won’t make you a great-gran at 18′ sound good?” She asked with a sigh, feeling weird even talking about texting her mum in what felt like forever. If she thought it would have helped, she would have messaged her brothers first but she knew they were useless and it wouldn’t have gotten her anywhere. After stalling for a few moments more and taking a deep breath, Lily typed up a simple message explaining everything was fine and they had found out the gender and before hitting send, she shoved the phone at Matt to make him do it for her. “I can’t do it. You do it for me.” She pleaded, looking back down at her stomach and placing her palms on either side of her bump with a sigh. “At least you won’t be called Ninette. You really dodged a weird name bullet there.” Lily smiled, wondering if their daughter could even hear them.
“You have more than one! I checked,” Matt mentioned with a grin, looking up at her boyishly. She probably didn’t want him watching her videos for a plethora of reasons, but he liked to make sure no one was trolling or giving her reason to be upset. The internet was a nasty place, but if he could look out for her a little, he’d try his best. The kiss was enough to shut him up though, and he hummed fondly as Lily pulled away, exhaling as she got re-positioned again. It was hard to stay upbeat and positive when the situation with Ninette was as realistically dire as it was, but there was always hope she’d see the light at the end of the tunnel. A teenage mother wasn’t the end of the world, and it wasn’t like she had no prospects in her life -- Lily was clever, and Matt was always around for support -- and they could easily restart their goals and ambitions in a couple of years’ time, albeit with a couple of minor tweaks to accommodate the baby. He frowned at her statement though, shaking his head softly and pressing a kiss to where he could reach against her arm. “Don’t say that. She’s rightly upset, but you’re still her baby girl. And she’s trying to do right by you and raise you on her own, babe... she’s no doubt more frustrated with herself than she is disappointed with you,” he mentioned, not wanting to blurt out a mention of her dad quite so bluntly.
Watching her grab her phone though, he was pleased he’d at least managed to get through to her a little, and finally sat up slowly with a soft grunt, adopting her position against the pillows on the headboard. “Good to me, add some eggplant emojis,” he teased, but pressed a supportive kiss to her temple anyway in the hopes she didn’t genuinely send that to her mum. His eyes widened as the phone was thrust inches from his face though, and he took it timidly to read the message on the screen. “If you’re sure...” Matt murmured, giving it another once-over, and finally hitting send for her before setting it aside so she didn’t keep checking it every two minutes for a response. “Ball’s in her court now, baby,” he mentioned, lifting his arm to let her cuddle into his side, and letting his free hand rest against her bump. “At least you can say you tried, mmh?” he reinforced. Matt chuckled as she addressed their baby girl though, fond of the notion that she could hear and understand every word, no matter how outlandish it was in reality. “Just a shame you’ll have to explain why you’re called Lionel Messi Thomson-Smith to all your friends, eh? My clever little girl,” he cooed with a boyish grin, well aware that that naming dream had well and truly died a few hours ago.
