A REALLY LONG AU RANT

Why do AUs exist Okay so explain There is this well-built universe, everything fits perfectly and is well made Now fuck that amazing universe let's make these childhood best friends strangers and set it on the modern universe in America rather than early 1900 Germany WHY EXPLAIN THIS IS BULLSHIT I HATE AUS

AUs are just an excuse to make people out of character like "Makoto was once a fun loving swimmer then something happened his life changed forever, but then he met Haru" NO MAKOTO IS A CHEERFUL MOTHERLY LOVING FRIEND WHO CARES FOR EVERYONE SO MUCH HE NEGLECTS HIMSELF HE IS NOT SOUSKE the only AUs I can stand are actor AUs because they're funny most of the time but AUs almost 99.9% of the time are just an excuse to write a "fanfiction" in another world with ooc characters and a terrible plot just make an original story alone and write canon universe fics best example for AUs getting characters OOC and not even keeping inside jokes is Cuddle Buddy which is one of my favourite phanfics, not because it's phanfiction but because it's well written and has a fantastic plot cuddle buddy is about a fem! orphan Dan who falls for the popular jock kid who is nice to everyone Phil jock Phil JOCK PHIL Dan is abused in the orphanage he's in and is bullied at school for wearing skirts and being gay. but Phil comes along and hugs him and makes him feel better Phil and his best friend Brody save Dan and let Dan live with them but it's revealed that Phil is an alcoholic and he starts abusing Dan because he cannot get over the fact that he isn't 100% straight anyway long plot insane twist with Brody and Dan so much pain but the thing is this isn't Dan and Phil this is Dan and Phil, but different people, just with the same looks and names I actually named myself after Dan in this fic because I liked his character so much, plus Dan is a great name but back on topic Cuddle buddy would make a great original story but it's a fic.... with nothing to do with Dan and Phil and this is why I hate AUs there are also AUs done well, like Black And Blue, another phanfic this one is an AU because Dan and Phil meet in high school and fall in love then but it integrates youtube and their real life and it's great

though to be a hypocrite, I did see a highschool AU where Seigrain Mystogan and Jellal are brothers and Seigrain just wants love because he's the middle child and that sounds interesting BECAUSE IT HAS THE HUMOUR OF THE FACT THAT THERE ARE A MILLION AND ONE JELLALS ADD INSIDE JOKES TO AUs THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE THEM GOOD 

okay best way to tell if your AU is good if it's sfw show it to your mum/dad, if they understand it without knowing the original work, it's a bad AU if they don't get the humour, don't understand little references, you've done it right, good job, you wrote a good AU because if you showed your dad a normal canon universe fic, they won't understand, so that shouldn't change with AUs
