#heck i let her try a crab apple because i knew it wasnt poisonous and she'd learn how awful they taste
Text
I always get weirded out when my aunt asks if black raspberries are poisonous. Like ma'am. Your daughter has a container of what is clearly black raspberries. I've been picking them since I was old enough to walk. I know where they grow, I know what they taste like, my mom doesn't care that we pick them, and she's half-crazy about knowing that what we eat is fine for us. I know what's good and what isn't. I know what you can eat and what you can't. And what your daughter is holding? Black raspberries. The most amazing wild growing summer treat, that make kids so excited because if you get sweaty and a little scratched up to get something that tastes like sunshine and fruit and love all combined and set into this world, just waiting for you to grow confidence in yourself and go collect, there is absolutely nothing better.
Like maybe I'm just a forest child, raised on wild fruit and wild leaves, full of knowledge of what exists and what doesn't, what's good and what's bad, but parents not knowing what very recognisable food is always unsettles and surprises me.
I must be too much of a forest child.
