From the Deadfire asks, #1, 2, 6, 7, 10 for each of your Watchers?
thank you!!
Desta
1. What did your Watcher make of the Deadfire Archipelago? Was it their first time there, or had they been there previously?
For all of her traveling, it was Desta’s first time visiting the Deadfire. She did enjoy it- there’s a lot of beautiful sights!- but she would have enjoyed it more if the gods weren’t pestering her the entire time she was there.
the rest are answered here!
Rudi
1. What did your Watcher make of the Deadfire Archipelago? Was it their first time there, or had they been there previously?
Rudi had never been there before and she was...not a fan. Between the recent destruction of Caed Nua and being stuck on a boat, there wasn’t really much of a chance of her liking it. She warmed up to it a bit in time, but mainly she just missed consistently having solid ground under her feet
2. Did they have a favourite location?
She did rather like Poko Kohara- there wasn’t much there, but it reminded her a bit of being back home in the Plains. And once she got the menagerie on her ship, she spent a lot of time hanging out there with all her pets!
6. What was your Watcher’s ship(’s) name(s)? Did they enjoy being Captain of a boat? Would they rather have been back at Caed Nua?
The Sea Lion- get it, cause she has Sol with her, and they’re on the sea? XD
She didn’t like sailing enough to say she liked being a Captain, and she was happy enough to leave all that behind once her quest was over. But she did enjoy the big hats that came with the job!
7. Did they have a favourite quest or side quest? How about a least favourite?
Her favorite might have been sneaking into Fort Deadlight- it involved stealth, revenge, and throwing a giant party as a distraction, so it was fun all around!
For least favorite...the Forgotten Sanctum freaked her out a bit. It went from “eh more crazy mages need my help” to “ok this is freaky even by Watcher standards” way too fast
10. Where do you imagine your Watcher’s life takes them after the events of Deadfire?
Rudi went back to the Dyrwood and rebuilt Caed Nua. She really considered that place her home, and she wanted to be close to her family in Defiance Bay again.
I think she and Maia actually break up for a bit while Rudi’s rebuilding Caed Nua and Maia is back with the RTC, but after a while they reunite and eventually get married!
Miervaldis
1. What did your Watcher make of the Deadfire Archipelago? Was it their first time there, or had they been there previously?
Miervaldis had passed through before, but never stayed for long. He likes it well enough; it’s too hot for his tastes, but he enjoys sailing and finds being around the ocean very relaxing
2. Did they have a favourite location?
He liked exploring a lot of the old temples, and his favorite was the Hanging Sepulchers, (Meeting a death guard is like the Miervaldis equivalent of meeting a rock star)
6. What was your Watcher’s ship(’s) name(s)? Did they enjoy being Captain of a boat? Would they rather have been back at Caed Nua?
Winds of Berath. He enjoyed it well enough- he was pretty hands-off, mostly just handling navigation and letting the crew handle themselves unless he really needed to intervene. He was probably better suited to that than Caed Nua, where he had to deal with people a lot more.
7. Did they have a favourite quest or side quest? How about a least favourite?
Anything involving restoring souls to the Wheel (or Xoti’s lantern) was something he enjoyed, as he saw that as part of his purpose as a Berathian. He was also my only Watcher to complete Modwyr’s sidequest (none of my others use swords) and he got a lot of satisfaction when he finally was able to let soul peacefully move on.
The Beast of Winter quest was...complicated for him. It reminded him a lot of home, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but he didn’t enjoy being in Rymrgand’s realm at all
10. Where do you imagine your Watcher’s life takes them after the events of Deadfire?
He and Xoti hang around the Deadfire for a bit- she has some business left with the Dawnstars. Other than that, he’d go wherever he felt called, doing missionary work with Xoti and trying to find a balance with the gods after the destruction of the Wheel

Knight Plays: Pillars of Eternity
Part I || Part II || Part III || Part IV
In the last post, I had just gotten around to dealing with stuff in Defiance Bay...
Mostly just poked around and did some random side quests for a bit, starting with the one in the catacombs.
I kept getting lost in Defiance Bay though, so I wound up making sure I visited every area once so I could more easily hop around on the map in the future...
While exploring I found the ruined temple of Woedica which... I had forgotten was the next main quest destination, oops. This always happens to me, I get SIDE TRACKED so easily...
The temple of Woedica was actually super easy to infiltrate, lol, even if Bryn had to get a LITTLE aggressive with the Initiate...
Now seems like a good moment to appreciate Bryn’s usual list of dialogue options being funny because he has high Might, so an “intimidate them with your strength” option is almost always available, whether it be “push them around” or “pick them up and shake them down” -
HOWEVER... I have also been playing Bryn as super benevolent so there’s almost always a peaceful option too AND people usually remark about him “being so nice” which... is just really amusing.
Bryn: “looks like he could kill you, acts like a cinnamon roll, could still actually kill you though...”
So I got a notice that someone wanted to talk to me back at Caed Nua and went to see what THAT was about - and it turns out it’s a messenger from the Chancellor guy who helped with the property dispute again. Interesting. I wonder what he wants to talk about...
He wanted to meet me in this lil tavern in Defiance Bay but while I was back at the stronghold I decided to dive into the Endless Paths again for a bit... and got past the Ogre section into... the 5th floor...
And that Drake is WAY too strong for me to kill yet so I’ll have to come back later. OOF.
Just to showcase how easy to side-track I am, I went to the tavern to meet the Chancellor but got talking to another character near the front of the place INSTEAD and well, okay, I’ll run that errand first -
He wanted me to check into stuff going on at the Salty Mast brothel in another district, so I went there to deal with that.
The town crier was saying something about a missing child, though, so...
I went looking for the kid first and THAT got me involved in helping a sailor find a missing treasure chest which I did manage, but it was NIGHT now and I couldn’t find any of the little rocks the sailor told me to look for as a reward because “you can only find them in low tide.”
After this talk I remembered I was supposed to ask him about the missing kid and he’s like “oh, yeah, he’s the one that found that rock.” Thanks, man. Very helpful. (He did also mention the brothel as well which REMINDS ME WHY I CAME HERE, oops.)
I also got roped into starting a quest for some lady with feathery hair who I can once again tell is PROBABLY important because she has a portrait.
I got the “bitter squash” seeds (which I can only assume is a type of drug) from the guy, then went on to the brothel to wrap up the INITIAL quest that started all this -
Kind of wish I hadn’t brought Durance into a brothel though, ew. His commentary was... ick. (I’m actually with Aloth, haha, I sort of doubt Bryn would want to be serviced here...)
That said, he did decide to help the lady here with the bitter squash seed prices just to get a discount to have a “talk” with the lady that stole stuff from the guy at the tavern...
(Bryn does just plan to talk but he has to pay for the time and he is fine with that.)
I figured out bitter squash is a contraceptive now, LOL. It actually does make sense that prices would be crazy high if it’s in high demand, which... makes sense with the hollowborn problem. OOF. Nice consistent world building there.
It’s good Bryn saved his money though, because... he wound up paying the lady enough to start a better life for herself. (And then just left. I do kind of wish there had been some companion commentary about this but I also feel like maybe the other companions didn’t ACTUALLY go in the room with Bryn... so who knows what they THINK happened.)
With that all done, I wrapped up the “Far From Home” quest and... remembered I came here INITIALLY to meet with the Chancellor. So I finally went back to chat with him and WELL, WHAT DO YOU KNOW, it was a setup...
Bryn was able to talk the lady out of fighting with him, though, and offered her a place in HIS services instead. She seemed to hesitate and didn’t actually fight the party, which... is good? I guess? I’m wondering if I can ACTUALLY recruit her as an ally, that would be neat.
(She hasn’t seemed very keen about her employer so far, and I DOUBT she wants to die for him... and Bryn would definitely welcome another new friend.)
It took me this long to notice that Aloth wanted to talk to me, probably because I keep forgetting to look at the character portraits.
He FINALLY shared the “truth” about what’s going on with him -
I ALMOST HAD IT RIGHT, AAAH.
I didn’t realize you could be Awakened and not be a Watcher, I thought they went hand-in-hand. It’s still neat to be somewhat right about him~
Bryn was more than happy to go on a side-errand for his friend this time! (See, he doesn’t just do it for STRANGERS, he does it for EVERYONE...)
Finding out Aloth’s backstory, though. OW.
I feel like Bryn just got more and more serious the more stuff got revealed and, uh. “The one thing he’s not keen on forgiving is people harming the people they’re supposed to love.” STILL TRUE.
(I totally took the “squeeze his hand and tell him it’s ok” option, by the way, IT’S WHAT BRYN WOULD DO. But I’m also starting to ship it.)
See also: “Keep talking. He seems to respond to YOU.”
Bryn’s been a pretty honest guy so far, especially for a rogue. That said, he ABSOLUTELY looked the other way when Aloth (and Iselmyr?) went to steal the notes. That talk got WAY more personal than Bryn expected it to, and... the door is VERY fascinating.
And that’s where I’m going to cut for now~

Not Worth Trading
@pillarspromptsweekly fill 51: Regret
If there was one thing Adela’s companions learned quickly about her, it was that she preferred reading to any other recreational activity. Cards, drinks, whatever it was, she’d pass on all of them in favor of a good book. They still asked, of course; it was the polite thing to do, and on the rare occasions she didn’t have a book to read or new spells to learn, she was very fun company. Still, it was largely just habit to ask, her ‘No, thank you’ all but expected.
Which was probably why Hiravias’ jaw nearly hit the floor when she thumped her grimoire closed and answered a grinning, “I’d love to!”
His eye widened. “Wait, really?”
“Yeah.” Adela twirled the end of her braid, grin widening at his surprise. “if I have to stare at Arkemyr’s instructions for capricious hex five more seconds, I will go crazy. I dunno why Aloth likes that one so much; it’s so tricky to cast it’s almost as great a risk to the caster as the target. What’re we playing?”
“Kith’s Grace,” Hiravias replied as he tugged her toward the table where Edér and Kana already sat. “You ever played?”
“A few times,” she shrugged. “One of the merchants in the caravan out taught me.”
“Ah, a newbie!” the druid crowed, clapping her enthusiastically on the back. “This should be fun. You any good?”
Adela bit her lip and shrugged again. “I mean... I won a few times? But I kind of feel like he maybe let me win some of them? So I wouldn’t get discouraged, I guess.” But she didn’t really want to dwell on that, and they’d reached the table anyway. “So, are we playing with money or...?”
“Naw, money’s too easy, ‘specially now,” Edér chuckled, pushing out a seat for her with his foot. “Glad you could join us, Adi.”
“Me, too, I think,” she said as she took her seat. “So if you don’t bet money, what do you use?”
“The winner gets to ask a question,” Kana answered. “Whoever lost by the most has to answer.”
“Oooh, that’s good,” Adela grinned. “Clever.”
“You ready then, boss?” Hiravias asked, nudging a stack of tiles toward her.
“Yep.” She pulled the stack close, ears twitching at the challenge in his voice.  “Who’s dealing?”
“First hand would be me.” He reached out and placed a tile in the center of the table. “Like I said, this should be fun.”
Adela craned her neck slightly to see the number, then bit the inside of her cheek. Ten. That was going to be tricky.... She shuffled through the tiles in her hand, trying to figure the most prudent one to play. There were still two more matches to this hand, after all. “What if,” she began, fiddling with her three tile and trying to buy time. “we each win a match?”
“Oh, a tie?” Hiravias grinned, running one finger under the strap for his eyepatch to adjust it. “If there’s a tie, dealer asks and you all have to answer.”
“Sounds fair.” With a sigh--Hope I don’t regret this--Adela played her six instead of the three. She was committed now.
-o-
Seven hands later, she was indeed regretting this. Her handful of lessons around a campfire were no match for the years’ experience the others all had. She’d coughed up the story of her first kiss to Hiravias, worst nightmare--”Not countin’ the Watcher dreams”--to Edér, and both her favorite and least favorite books and why to Kana. It could’ve been worse; she had won a hand--learned the worst prank Edér ever played on Woden--and her other loss, said farmer lost by more so she’d been spared spilling her guts that time. Hiravias and Kana were both very good at Kith’s Grace.
Hiravias at least knew it, too, as evidenced by his smirk as he slapped down a one to win match and hand both. “Three in a row,” he gloated. “Let’s see now, Adi, what do I wanna know this time...”
Adela growled softly at his theatrics. “Very funny.”
“I think it is,” Edér said cheekily, winking as he played with his leftover tiles.
“Didn’t ask you,” she grumbled, propping her chin on one hand. “Not my fault I got lousy tiles that hand...”
“Happens to everyone sometimes,” Kana chipped in with a sympathetic smile.
“Got it,” Hiravias snapped his fingers. “Oh, wise Watcher, Lady of Caed Nua and arbiter of disputes, what’s your biggest regret?”
Adela snorted. “Aside from joining this game?” She bit her lip and fiddled with her tiles as she mulled the question over, glancing around the room for inspiration. “When I was younger, fifteen or sixteen, I was invited to study for a year at an academy in the Vailian Republics. It was a huge honor to be invited so young and from so far away.” She spun a tile on its corners between her fingertip and the tabletop. “I said no.”
“Why would you-?” Kana blushed and coughed sheepishly in the wake of his outburst.  “Sorry.”
“No, that was about my family’s reaction, too.” She smirked. “Well, except Isi and Zac, but they were six and two respectively, so they didn’t understand the importance.”
“Why’d ya say no, if it was such a big deal?” Edér asked, taking a swig of his drink.
Adela shrugged. “The younger boys kept relapsing some damned persistent  illness, and my older siblings had all started their own lives, so couldn’t help as much. I knew Mama felt overwhelmed with the thought of just Tia for help, so I didn’t feel right about leaving. Even though she told me to go.” She smiled wryly. “Two months after I sent my ‘Thank you for the consideration, I’m honored but regretfully must decline’, the boys got over whatever had been ailing them and were fine. On my parents’ urging I checked to see if the spot was still open, but of course it had been filled. I’m not sorry for putting my family first, but I do regret the missed opportunity. I’d probably be a completely different person if I’d gone, had vastly different experiences. Definitely wouldn’t have been in a position to join Odema’s caravan, so wouldn’t be Watcher, and wouldn’t have met any of you.”
“See, it turned out for the best,” Hiravias teased, raking the played tiles into a heap for the next hand. “Think how boring your life would be if you were surrounded by books rather than us.”
She raised an eyebrow skeptically. “Do you... not know me at all? Even after all our time traveling together? At least books don’t pry for my secrets.”
He winked. “On that note, ready to cough up another one, boss?”
Adela shot him a mock-glare as she dropped her remaining tiles into the carrying pouch. Part of her was having fun, and it was good to de-stress after how long she’d spent staring at that stupid spell, but a slowly growing sliver couldn’t help hoping for a polite out.
Almost as if he’d read her mind, Aloth picked that moment to look up from his grimoire and interject, “Actually, Adela, if you wouldn’t mind, I could use your help with something.”
She shot him a look, one eyebrow arched, and he returned a barely perceptible shrug. It’s an excuse, if you want it. Maybe he did read your mind. “I think they can manage without me.”
“Sure, but it’s nice to not be th’ biggest loser for once,” Edér joked.
“Sorry.” Adela pushed away from the table with an apologetic smile and tried not to obviously hurry across the room to join Aloth. “Do you really need my help, or was that for my benefit?”
“Both, actually,” Aloth said with a wry smile. “I figured you might want an means of escape, and I could use your assistance with this spell.” He shifted position on the bed so she could sit next to him, his grimoire open in front of them. “You’re much better at Kalakoth’s creations than I am.”
Adela’s face warmed at the compliment. “Thank you. Which one were you trying to learn?”
In answer, he simply tapped the grimoire’s page. Both of her eyebrows rose toward her bangs as she scanned the symbols.
“Freezing rake? Aloth, I’ve only known that one for a week myself, I don’t know how much help I can be,” she protested. She curled the end of her braid around one finger, crimping it tight.
“That’s a week’s experience you have on me,” he pointed out, tucking his hair behind one ear. “I’m not expecting to master it immediately, Adela, I just want input on how you grasped it, to see if that helps me do the same.”
“Well, alright.” She grinned, tugging on her braid as she studied the portion of the spell he’d inscribed in his grimoire. “Least I can do for you helping me escape the clutches of Kith’s Grace without looking like a coward.”
Aloth chuckled, watching her absently pick at one nail as she read. “That’s what friends are for, yes?” He was quiet for a moment, then, “Which academy?”
Adela blinked, mentally switching gears to figure out what he was talking about, vaguely surprised he was curious enough to pry. “Oh, um, Selona.” She picked at the nail harder when he visibly swallowed a comment. “I know, I know. I do occasionally kick myself for not going. Mama swore she and Tia would be alright, could ask the neighbors for help if they needed it.” She sighed. “I think... I was scared. I was a teenager and it was so far from home and I did feel guilty about leaving when the boys were sick, but... I think I used that as an excuse. Regretted it even before the boys got better,” she babbled. It had taken years to admit that to herself; telling a friend was even more cathartic. “That’s part of why I’m so adventurous now; I don’t wanna let another opportunity like that pass me by.”
“I can understand that,” Aloth nodded, running one finger along the page edge.  “It fits what I know of you quite well.”
She raised an eyebrow and looked up from the grimoire. “Are you implying I’m predictable?”
He shrugged. “Perhaps a little, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  It means you’re dependable.”
“That’s one way of looking at it.” Adela pushed back loose wisps of hair and turned her attention back to the spell. “I can live with that. Now, what you wanna do with this spell...”
As she plunged into a detailed and enthusiastic description of her process for learning that particular incantation, she mentally conceded Hiravias had been right: Much as she might regret the missed opportunity and wonder who she’d be if she’d taken that more scholarly path, she would be absent several wonderful friends it would be a shame not to know.
I’m still saying no to Kith’s Grace in the future and sticking with my books, she thought wryly, correcting part of a symbol that had smudged slightly.
Her secrets would be safer that way, mundane as they might be.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Surprise, surprise, another of my characters has picked Aloth as her bff. It’s totally not obvious who my favorite character is, is it? /cough
Kith’s Grace is basically an Eoran version of blackjack(or pazaak/quasar, to use more nerdy references :P), but I haven’t put much thought into it beyond that for rules and such.

Played a teensy bit of PoE with Khellin last night, and aside from being robbed of The Crossed Patch(the quest completed but it’s not in my treasury *pout*), the only thing of any real importance that happened was me deciding that even in Tavi’s canon, I think I’m gonna have him survive. You all had to know this was coming. I love him.
I”d already worked out his backstory for his canon; he doesn’t die in the fire that kills the rest of the family, is found and rescued by scavengers/merchants from The Living Lands(still nailing down their motivation), who take him home with them. He thinks his entire family is dead, so once he heals up he just stays. The Living Lands is great for losing yourself, and he needs to get a little lost for his grieving process. For him being Watcher, he had decided to travel a bit and joined Odema’s caravan. But if he didn’t develop wanderlust, TLL is far enough removed from the rest of the world, and has enough of their own crazy shit going on, I could easily see him missing who, exactly, the Watcher of Caed Nua allllll the way in the Dyrwood is now.
And Tavi thinks her whole family is dead. No reason to look for any of them. And if Khel’s just a hunter of no great importance in TLL, it’s not like she’d hear of him for any reason.
(Also, Tavi’s totally alive in Khel’s canon. She wasn’t in the house, even tho he thought she was. So she’s probably just doing her Drifter thing. Maybe stayed with Silversteel and actually did something about her chemistry with Everin... Look, I love her with Aloth, but in an AU where they never meet, Ev’s a cool guy)
