hi, so i thought about my last ask and as far as halle/hugh, they do have tried and tru chemistry. i havent seen Swordfish, but from what i've seen from their moments in the XMEN movies, the chemistry is there and palpable. u can tell those love working together.
as for halle herself....idk tbh. i havent seen much of earlier works so i can only use the fews sources that i've seen her in (Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Call). im not counting the xmen movies because they didnt give her much to work with and it wasnt her best performance.
in tewwg, halle really shined more opposite of michael ealy. it was in their scenes where i was like 'wow'. halle on her own, its kinda hard to say. i enjoyed the movie and i did kind of enjoy her performance but is it enough to say that she is a great actress?
and in the call, she played her role. but i just chalk that up to the call being a bit of a forgettable movie, her performance wasnt exactly memorable.
and the reason i asked you this is because i wonder if halle berry is truly a great actress, or is it she revered that way because she won an oscar?
I find Halle to be hit or miss. Like she has a few good performances. For instance, she plays a small role as an addict in Jungle Fever, it's her first ever movie role actually and I remember being surprised when I'd first seen it because I was like, oh, this is actually a good performance
youtube
and then she had her breakout with Boomerang, which is funny because she was supposed to be "plain" and her performance is fine, she isn't great imo, but she's fine,
youtube
and then she was in a movie called Losing Isaiah and I actually think her performance here was better than her performance in Monster's Ball
youtube
and then there's B*A*P*S which is PEAK 90s and a classic, incredibly corny and goofy but her comic timing is actually pretty good
youtube
and then she was in a movie Introducing Dorothy Dandrige, and she's not terrible but she's not great, she's fine, it's not a performance that sticks with you
same with her performance in Why Do Fools Fall In Love or The Rich Man's wife -- jfc I have seen WAY MORE Halle films than I thought I have -- or like you mentioned Their Eyes Were Watching God, which was really more about her chemistry with Ealy
and then she has movies like Catwoman and Swordfish and X-Men and she was a Bond girl in Die Another Day and I barely remember Gothika those aren't memorable performances either so like I find her more ... competent than anything else.
