For me, Link being "unhealthily obsessed with Zelda and finding her to the point Ganondorf is a footnote" isn't something that I think is "bad" at all, but precisely what makes this version of him remotely interesting (to me) when Nintendo is otherwise so adamant about keeping him a stoic knight most of the time.
It adds a different layer to him, turns him from this perfect, bland stoic boy into someone who only outwardly appears that way, appears like he has everything together, but is in fact flawed inside and a little broken from what has happened to him. A little off. That makes him much more interesting to me. It gives him a major character flaw that can be exploited by his enemies, and what do you know, Ganondorf and the Yiga Clan do exactly that (they even remark on what good bait she makes).
I also find it interesting to think about when he became this way. Was it the years he spent with her in-between games? Was it well before that, when he was aimlessly chasing that "beautiful voice" even before he remembered who he was? Was it some point before the Calamity? Did he become a knight in the first place not merely to follow his father's footsteps, but to one day protect her? I find this compelling to think about. Is making a specific person your life's purpose unhealthy in real life? Yes. It's also very interesting in a story.
And also on that note, isn't him becoming at least a little too obsessed with her a completely natural thing to happen?
For me, if you take away Link's (yes, I'll admit, unhealthy although I kind of like that), obsession with Zelda, then all that is left is the exact ways that people who hate not only zelink but Link himself describe him as all the time: A robot who feels nothing but duty.
And sorry, but I just find that very boring. Dull. Unexciting. I also, then, can't see why on earth Zelda would have feelings for Link if she's just a duty to him and her acts of affection, like sewing him a new tunic, are never returned. Frankly, I think she deserves a lot better than that, to have her feelings reciprocated and a happy ending after all that she's been through.
And to be honest, why would any writer make her feelings unreciprocated when she's basically the main focus of these two games? How does that make any sense? I also doubt any professional game dev working on a deadline would waste precious time writing and coding dialogue about it into the games if it supposedly wasn't meant to mean anything? I honestly rather dislike people brushing off things like Kass's song, because it ignores that it was purposefully written by the game's creators to tell the player something. It not only feels disrespectful to whoever wrote it, but ignores an extremely common convention of video games. I don't think it's really very fair to call it "bad writing" simply because it delivers the information like a video game and not like other visual mediums would have. Video games have always demanded the player to read things, investigate and read between the lines. Especially so when they are more focused on gameplay, which is exactly where Nintendo's focus lies.
And when it comes to "it should have been more obviously shown", well, look how people complain even when it's subtle? If you're someone who hates it, why complain about the romance not being overly blatant? Isn't that good? I mean, clearly an even bigger fit about it would have been thrown if they had been even more obvious, so personally, I think that the way Nintendo went about it was perfectly fine.

at a certain point, someone's bigotry towards trans people becomes some kind of science denialism where they have to pretend trans people aren't real for their idea of the world to work. like, have a gander at this infographic
Tumblr media
Beyond having no idea who the target audience of this infographic is (this reads as a bit too toony and colorful for the more serious sex ed tone of high school biology classes but is far too textually dense and visually noisy and cluttered for younger kids, so really it just feels like it's made or adults to pass around and nod along to work that tells them exactly what they already believe) It's also full of blatant medical misinformation, and states facts in a way that feels completely angry and bitter towards anyone who believes anything else. Like, no, transphobic lion gender infographic. Men CAN lectate even without any hormonal treatments or being trans. I've seen it personally.
It's also interesting to me how it explains sexuality (among other things) as being these incredibly rigid and inflexible categories. Like oh really, asexuals can't have sex? We can't go into nuances of sexual desire, sexual attraction, sexual pleasure and social expectations to perform sex. Like if you're ace and you did sex and weren't enthusiastic about it and never tried it again i guess you're not ace. The harry potter houses model of sexuality: you are one thing, you fit into this one thing, it prescribes how you're supposed to act instead of using it to describe how you actually exist.
This rigidity also becomes obvious when it talks about intersex people as being these exceptions to the rule that don't have to be counted for how gender and sexuality works. And of course, we have to force intersex people into these binary categories instead of, you know, letting them decide for themselves? And of course it ignores any kind of intersex person with any kind of features that can't be written off as an anomaly and an aberration from the norm. Here we start doing science denialism. Here we start pretending certain people's body features aren't worth discussing for the sake of public knowledge. They're only worth bringing up as anomalies, and not as like, people.
I can't fucking get over how jarring the whole image is actually. Like, the really cheerful cartoon furry lions next to this piece of text prescribing the rigidity of existence. Yeah baby, I love being a strong cool lion boy, I love being told everything I'm not allowed to do or be for the sanctity of my gender!
Tumblr media
yeah roar!!!
Here's a little section i wanna do more of a deep dive on
Tumblr media
Women have two eggs?? what??? the egg-shapd things in the uterus are not the eggs!!!!! what the fuck are you talking about
This particular part stands out to me. Like, obviously the purpose of this infographic is not to tell you how bodies work, but to insist that there's a correct and an incorrect way for bodies to work, and that people outside of what it describes do not exist. It's obvious because it won't even show you what a uterus, what a vagina, or what boobs usually look like, like any decent diagram whose purpose is science education would. It's obvious because it straight up lies to you about how periods work, and tells you that having a period is somehow intrinsically tied to being a woman.
Like, no. Obviously. Trans can men experience menstruation at any point in transition, and trans women can experience other common parts of periods if they've been on hrt for long enough. Periods are not some kind of woman exclusive thing, it's not purely reliant on having a uterus or having certain hormones. It's not gender dependent. It depends on multiple features of one's body. It's a very basic fact of transition, hormones change how your biology works no matter what features you have. To imply none of this is true is denying very very basic facts about how a lot of people's bodies work, simply based on some insistence that those people aren't real and if we simply look away we can all pretend trans women aren't real. It's digging your head in the sand, it's having lived looking at the shadows on the wall your whole life, being told something new, and going right back into your cave and angrily shouting at everyone that the shadows are real, the shadows are ALL that is real, and though I may have glimpsed things that lie outside of it, those things aren't real because I personally can safely ignore facts about how the world works and go about my day.

Hiii! I hope you're having a great day 😃 I love your blog, you were one of the first I followed when I joined the Star Wars fandom last year. I've recently started reading more fanfic as well, but the vast amount is a bit overwhelming. Would you happen to have any recommendations for me? I'm open to reading anything and any/all ships. I guess I'm very interested on reading more about the clones and/or about Mandalorian culture, maybe about the clones & Jedi, or about Jedi/Mandalorian relationships (as a culture not necessarily as ships I mean). Also if you have any time travel or social media fics recommendations I always especially enjoy those. Feel free to ignore this ask entirely, or to ignore what I say and just point me towards your favourites or your recent reads or whatever you would like to share. Thank you! 💙
Hello!! Thank you!!! I hope you're having a great day too!!! I am flattered you've thought to ask me but I am perhaps not the best fit to give you fic recs haha!! I'm extremely picky and pretty much the only Star Wars fics I read are codywan- ones that are sweet (optionally also smutty), usually short, and have a very particular vibe.
I really only have one fic rec for you: come down from your mountain by @stormwarnings
Author's summary:
Fox finally settles on something close enough to all of those, but just a step to the right. “Are they usually like that? Unnerving?"
“Always,” Gree says, those eyes that never miss a single detail. “Every single one of them.”
(Seven clone commanders gathering for a drink, and their reflections on war, love, and Jedi.)
That's obviously not an adequate amount of recs so I need to outsource. Anyone reading this, please reblog or comment with a link to your favorite fic(s) that fit anon's needs!!
I know I could just send you my faves, unrelated to what you asked for, as you said I could... but it disgruntles me when I ask for recs for a specific thing I'm craving and none of the recs hit the spot so I don't want to knowingly do that to you haha
(Anon, if would like to research Mandalorian and clone lore, @fox-trot does great lore posts)
(also @ficfinder-general your help in reblogging this would be much appreciated!)

I know people may not like what I have to say on this, but it's just bothersome to see so many posts hating on one person for their beliefs. And to just go "if you support this person you're a terrible person". Like. No. It's fine if you don't like the person then fine, block the person, block certain tags or something. But insinuating that someone who still likes someone's art/writing/etc., just because that person making it believes differently than you, is a bad person. Just doesn't make sense to me. You're allowed to have different beliefs than someone else. Especially if said person didn't hurt anyone with those beliefs. I personally will still like what I like despite everyone freaking out about it. Maybe I'll make a separate blog if people really don't want to see that person's posts on my blog, but I don't like people telling me who I can/can't like. Seems very controlling honestly.

I think really the only canon case of Jake being ‘manipulative’ would be his convo w Jane, and while yes that one thing might’ve been manipulative, that doesn’t make Jake HIMSELF inherently manipulative. Does that make sense? And like, he’s not going into things like ‘I am a chessmaster, a puppeteer, all of you will dance to my tune’ he’s going ‘hmmm how do I avoid this awkward conversation’
pretty much. ymmv with how manipulative it is i guess, and as another anon said, saying jake is manipulative is just another way of saying he tries to be indirect to avoid confrontation... anyway, this is up for interpretation since i think it depends on whether or not you read the line 'i really was not prepared for this answer' as facetious or not. but my impression was of genuine surprise and like idk how manipulative someone can be if they aren't certain abt their understanding of people. that said now that i'm looking at it it does kinda seem like some faker shit. damn we'll have to see how i feel about it in the context of my next reread i guess
Tumblr media
and obviously he does prevent her from backpedaling after he gets that answer, but that doesn't seem like a conciously manipulative move either, to me it reads as him jumping to believing the thing that's more convenient for him and ignoring contradictory details. hope style.
Tumblr media
so yeah he's kinda shitty but not really conciously so. roxy put it best i think

the arguments homophobic people make against same sex couples raising kids makes literally zero sense considering they raise no problem to single parent families. the problem really isn't that there's an absent gender, because if it was they would chase and/or blame single parents and they don't.

Okay so I didn't think of it this way before but in addition to the critiques on capitalism and classism, I feel like there's also a like anti-war message in that so many Talented kids are sent out to deal with The Problem, they die by the truckload and their parents are paid compensation as thanks for their sacrifice, and the children that do live long enough to age out of their Talents have major PTSD and no skills and they're left to just. Figure it out

btw I did very much tell you all that I was going to get back to being annoying now that season 4 is in the foreseeable future... so I wanted to rant a bit about how people in the Shadows fandom are inevitably going to start throwing the word “queerbaiting” around and I just want to say, jesus christ please do NOT... I’m so excited that they’re going to make Guillermo canonically queer and I don’t care with whom, I’ve been thrilled to see Guillermo’s personal life outside the vampire house for ages (the episode with his family???!!???), I’ve wanted him to have romantic interests outside the house forever, and I’m genuinely sincerely excited to see him as a canonically queer character. and Harvey Guillen has been absolutely lovely about the whole thing so if I see ONE GODDAMN PERSON try to give him shit about shipping-related things... don’t be an asshole, and on a more selfish note, please don’t give everyone on earth more reasons to talk about how cringe fandom shippers are all insane sex-crazed stalkers or whatever
however if we as a fandom ARE going to toss the word “queerbaiting” around, can we talk about Nadja, because it’s high time that one of her rotating cast of side pieces was a woman. I absolutely will become an insane sex-crazed stalker about that, I take back what I said five seconds ago

i know a lot of people say things like 'if my post doesn't apply to you then its not for you' when they make advice posts, which i totally get. but when people make posts dissing picky eaters or adult cartoon fans or whatever, and other people point out that includes disabled adults, i feel like "oh i didn't mean them!" doesn't really work, y'know?

If your mutuals only how do we interact with you? /gen
ty for asking in good faith anon!
me being mutuals-only doesn't mean i don't follow anyone new; any time a roleplay blog follows me, i check to see if i can see us interacting, and if i can i will totally follow back! don't be intimidated by the fact i describe myself as selective!
the label of "selective" is mostly because i personally don't feel comfortable with personal (a.k.a non-roleplay blogs) interacting with or following me; this is a roleplay blog, not an ask or fanfiction blog, so my writing is just meant to be seen and responded to by the people i'm writing with. for the most part, if you follow me and i see you roleplay someone who i can see jane interacting with (a.k.a, a dead by daylight character - i'm sorry but i'm not really sure about writing with completely different fandoms if i don't know the person or we don't have a shared AU/verse) i will most likely follow back!

sorry if you've already answered this 700 times, in which case totally feel free to ignore. but how do you lengthen your attention span? is it as simple as watching/reading progressively longer things?
First of, I am by no means an expert, but I'm happy to help as much as I can! There are a lot of great articles, books, and podcasts on the topic if you want any further info.
The most important thing to realize is why are attention spans are getting worse:
Information overload and distractions make it difficult to focus. (Ex. social media and text notification going off while you are doing other tasks)
Intentional multitasking gets your brain used to doing more than one thing at once so it becomes very difficult to make it do only one thing (Ex. having the tv on in the background while doing other tasks)
Consuming a lot of media focused on having minimal downtime and immediate gratification decreases our patience and ability to do slower tasks (Ex. watching a lot of action packed movies and short TikToks)
Getting constant small hits of dopamine from social media decreases our ability to do tasks that don't give us dopamine hits (Ex. getting likes from a post or messages from friends)
The solutions to most of these come down to two things: (1) Do only one thing at a time (2) Limit distractions from that task (3) Reduce immediate gratification
So some example of ways to do that would be:
Read a book without your phone being on hand to distract you.
Watch TV without multitasking.
Reduce time on social media, especially social media focused on short videos.
Spend a day or part of a day without technology.
Spend time with friends without looking at your phone.
Watch slow-form content like unedited lecture or panel videos where people are just speaking at their normal pace without cutting pauses.
Listen to music albums all the way through instead of shuffling and skipping.
Eat meals without multitasking (ie mindful eating)
Make yourself a cup of tea and sit on a park bench or by the window and watch some birds.
People-watch at the coffee shop.
Write long emails or letters to friends and family instead of short texts.
Call and have a conversation with a loved one without multitasking.
Meditate.
Take a walk and enjoy nature.
Don't scroll through your phone while waiting in a line.
Read long posts when you come across them on your dashboard.
Have an ebook on your phone to read whenever you would normally scroll through social media.
Don't go on your phone/online for a certain amount of time before bed.
If you are having trouble doing these things, try to do one tasks but increase the stimuli of that task. For example, read a book while listening to the audiobook at the same time. Or listen to music while watching a lyric video. These are great baby steps!
Another great baby step is (like you said in your question) doing things for progressively longer amounts of time! Set a timer for a certain number of minutes and then read without distraction for that amount of time. That way it won't feel like it is never ending and you can track your progress.
Obviously not all of these will be for everyone and some of these are too hard for people with ADHD or serious attention issues, but they are a good place to start!
I hope that helps 💕

Can you do headcanons for a young child reader who constantly follows jax around, loves physical affection, and thinks jax is their 'dad'?
(Obviously this request is plantonic, not romantic!)
I think I might've went a little overboard with this one! Way longer than most of my posts but I guess that isn't really a bad thing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Jax unwillingly becomeing a parent
Tumblr media
★ His first and only question was how the hell did a four year old get in this situation. The headset should have been way out of reach for you. Questions that will never be answered, I guess.
★ After making you cry the first time he spoke to you he tried to steer clear of you. That worked out horribly because you seemed to want to always be near him. Much to everyone's confusion.
★ "oh my! Looks like the little one has taken an interest in you!" Was Cain's response to seeing you huddled up near Jax. At some point he gets a child harness to keep you in his line of sight. It's just easier this way.
★ By the way he didn't mean to make you cry, he just didn't know how young you were and said something he would've said to an adult. Kids cry easily, what are you gonna do?
★ Jax stole a few pillows from Kinger for you to sleep with. Yes, you don't technically need to sleep but he's not going to tell you that. Nap time is one of the only times he can get a moment to himself.
★ He gets beyond pissed when you get woken up during nap time. To the point where he's barely keeping it together and wants to beat whoever woke you up with a chair leg.
★ If you want to be picked up, then he's picking you up. It doesn't matter if he's talking to somebody or doing something. You'll get picked up while he's doing something and without missing a beat he'll continue like nothing happened.
★ Instead of giving you the usual Jax treatment, he just tells you the most outlandish lies while trying to convince you that they are true. Sometimes he tells you something true so you don't question his bullshit.
There's a list of things he's told you!
If you push down on Ragatha's nose it will make a honking noise.
There's a secret room hidden in a closet filled with veggies for people who are allergic to meat.
Birds aren't real.
When he was your age he was a year older. (It took you a moment to figure that one out)
Caine is the tooth fairy.
★ Jax isn't known for his empathy, but he does feel conflicted when you talk about small details from your life before meeting him. What color your house was, the lullabies your mother sang and the books you used to be read. It all makes him think.
★ You're family might be looking for you, not knowing where you are and that you're trapped. Do you even realize this? They probably think you're dead, that something terrible happened to you. Those thoughts make his stomach sink.
★ If he cares about you this much he can only imagine the grief your family feels. You will forever be a blissfully ignorant child not knowing the truth of what's really going on.

it is totally okay to be hurt and tired and fed up with the american schooling system but i need you to understand that we need to be better about loudly and routinely defending public education.
yes, many teachers suck, many schools utterly suck. i also got bullied and was absolutely not given the right support for my needs. i am not defending public education because it was kind to me. i am defending it because it needs to exist.
right-wing republicans do not want an educated population. they want kids to be homeschooled or in private school. there is a huge religious undertone to this.
the most common argument is that despite high costs, the "result" is not "good" enough. they point to failing schools as proof that public education is just never going to work out. there will be arguments made here that you actually agree with: that teachers can be bullies, that we taught online for 2 years and still charged the same amount of tuition, that we have no recourse for students to actually have agency or a voice, and that schools are now unsafe for kids due to risk of illness and gun violence.
these are all placing the blame in a fraudulent way, one intended to get your parents to homeschool you. the less kids in a school, the less federally-awarded funding for that school, the less any school succeeds. they will not mention the fact it is their legislation that takes away important funding opportunities, that teachers are living at or below the poverty line, that buildings are not kept up to code, that administration is overpaid and forces specific curriculums, that corporations like (my personal enemy) Pearson Education control certain classroom goals because teachers can't afford other options. they pretend to be ignorant of the gun violence and say "oh just get a gun" - but these are the same people who will be sending their child to a private school with a bulletproof backpack. they don't care if your kid dies, though. they "don't believe" in covid, but they did get their kid vaccinated, because of course they did.
it is a closed loop. conservative parents hear the fearmongering and remove children from the system. frequently these parents are also deeply religious. the kids are raised without access to other media & learn to parrot their parents. you have now created a new generation of conservatives. additionally, one of the parents/caregivers must stay home and homeschool the children, usually for free. i will give you 1 guess which parent tends to stay home to homeschool the children. these parents are encouraged to have many, many children. those children are most likely not getting access to safe sex ed.
we might laugh at fox news suggesting teachers are forcing children to use kitty litter but: first of all, there is kitty litter in the classroom. it's part of an emergency kit in case children are locked in due to a shooter. so that's fucking dystopian, and the fact they've completely reimagined the scenario to somehow make the teachers look bad when it's instead a fucking huge symbol of our failure as a country to protect our children.... it feels a little intentional.
secondly: don't just dismiss the situation. because, yeah, obviously, no teacher is encouraging kids to be a catboy. but the actual undertone that fox news is trying to sew is an outright distrust of teachers and of public education. they rely on the dehumanization of trans people as a common touchstone to hide the fact they're pushing two agendas at once. (which is ironic. because the thing they accuse teachers of. is pushing. an agenda.)
whenever someone tells you they want you to read less, you should be suspicious of that. when someone tries to separate you and your education, you should be suspicious of that. i don't even like incel rhetoric nor would i want my kids exposed to it - but i would not take away my child's (age-appropriate) access to the internet. i would just provide more educational materials, not less. the difference here is that i believe we can resolve ignorance with knowledge; whereas conservatives believe that ignorance is bliss.
they misappropriate funding and demonize teachers. they pull the same trick each time - the same thing we are seeing with anti-trans rhetoric. they do not want you to have access to safe sex ed, so they act horrified, claim sex ed teaches you how to thrust deep, claim that we have no idea what "age-appropriate" means. since the mid-nineties, the united states has spent at least 2 billion dollars on abstinence-only education, even though to quote the above link: "a preponderance of studies has found no effect of abstinence education at reducing adolescent pregnancy". conservatives want you to think less of any person struggling with addiction so they can continue their racist "war on drugs", so they spend up to $750 million dollars a year on the DARE program which has absolutely no effect. acting like teachers "must" be "grooming" children is just the same thing - so they can demand that funding either goes to their causes or the funding doesn't "exist" ("i'm not paying for our kids to learn that thing!")
and they want you to feel uncaring about this. they are aware that you will hate some parts of your school experience. pretty much everyone does. they want to lean into the parts that you hate so that you don't put up a fight about it when they take it away for not being "good enough."
i know i maybe sound like a conspiracy theorist. but truly. truly. it is beneficial for conservatives to reduce your faith in the american public schooling system.
one of the explicitly stated campaign promises of the conservative party: to axe the Department of Education in 2024.
i know we are all tired and burnt out and there is so much else wrong with their entire platform. but maybe just - pay attention to this one.

God I hope he doesn’t find zoophobia, he was just make jack a Mary Sue, rip off some zp fan kids, just Damian make evil, ignore rusty being gay and ruined my girl Cameron
Yeah, I remember him! I didn't find his stuff all that bad, but I also barely read more than the first chapter (which were way long wwww)
But hey! Your feelings about him are valid! Feel free to vent to me if you need to! I love being a listening ear!

#I'm not gonna say anything on the sexualizing 16 year olds that topic just makes me way uncomfy i don't like talking about it#but for the other stuff like mary sues; ripping off people; ruining characters; etc.#i'm kinda of the belief that people should write what they want to write#if something's in your head I think it's better to get it out than to keep it in#obviously plagriarism is a no-go#(ignore my spelling)#but since he's writing fanfiction as far as I'm aware I don't think it's AS detrimental#BUT AGAIN i haven't actually read much of his stuff and don't plan to so like#he could be doing some major plagiarism like stealing stories or whatevs and claiming he wrote them#which would be bullshit#but if a character is eerily similar to another character but still has some minor difference#he just might be getting used to making his own...it's tough to steal like an artist!#(that's the title of one of my fave books on art btw please read it its so good on inspiration and such)#another thing: there's no such thing as mary sues :)#every claim of a ''mary sue'' is actually a very flawed character#they're just not flawed in a traditionally masculine way#TO REITERIATE#(ignore the spelling)#it's cool if you don't like his work and feel free to complain to me if you wanna!#but if you really don't like his work it might be better just to ignore him for your own sake#no sense getting super stressed over something that can easily be blocked X3#i know i know easier said than done#but again#i think people should write what they want if they need to for their own mental health#but we should also be able to ignore harmful stories if we need to#again for our own mental health#all stories are important and all stories are dangerous#we have to really get to know ourselves to know what stories are okay and what stories we need to keep away from#lord knows there's a lot of stories i avoid because i know it's not good for my mental health#okay i'm rambling now www
