I saw a post about someone wanting to write a "Tai fell into darkness instead of Ken" AU. I wondered how, without a Dark Spore/similar? Then I realized it could work if someone twisted the Kari knife. That was never properly resolved so that knife is very twistable.

Pretending it never happened is not resolving it. Literally every other character in Adventure (except Kari, whose problems were more evident in 02) had a concrete resolution to their backstory trauma. Nobody ever told Tai it's okay, that he was just a child, that he doesn't need to hold all that weight now. I feel like it mixed with his reluctance in tri. Where his desire to shield Kari became a desire to shield the world.

For years, I wanted to tell this boy to let go. That he was a kid. That his parents shouldn't have left him alone with Kari, then projected all the blame onto him. That he doesn't have to shoulder all the burden alone. That IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING FAULT.

I'm sorry- this gets me emotional.
