For the character thing: jaskier and sam (lotr)🤍✨
Libby what have you DONEDFGJHSG this is going to be such a mess 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Jaskier / Dandelion (based on the show and what I’ve read of the first two books)
How I feel about this character: *insert Lady Gaga ‘talented’ meme* dgfdsjh 😍😭💖 Jaskier is someone who spreads infinite amounts of love, joy, humour and energy around him - I find the life in him so inspiring! His approach to life is one of constant delight and wonder; he’s smart and hilarious and brave; he genuinely sees people (Geralt) beyond reputation and appearances, without prejudices nor judgement... I could go on for ages fghsdds
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Geralt of Rivia. Gwynbleidd. Geralt. Geralt of nowhere. The White Wolf. Have I also mentioned Geralt???????
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I’d like to see Jaskier and Yennefer become buddies who are secretly, reluctantly fond of each other! I feel like their personalities yield lots of friendship potential, with how savage and unapologetic they both are. Together with Roach (who’s already Jaskier’s friend, fight me) they could totally band up to annoy the shit out of Geralt and make his life a living hell lmaoo 😂💕
My unpopular opinion about this character: Joey said that he and the writers working on the show made a conscious effort to have Jaskier not be a cliché womaniser character, and I do think they very much succeeded in that. As for book!Jaskier/Dandelion, though, it was pointed out in the same interview that he embodies a kind of character that’s pretty much an established humouristic fixture in Polish/Slavic literature (the annoying womanising drunk) - and while I do respect that heritage, I gotta say that that side of Dandelion in the books is something I unfortunately don’t really connect with :/ I do love Dandelion very much, but I find many aspects of his characterisation to be a caricature of sorts, whereas imo the show manages to lend him more humanity and make him more relatable in a way that feels nicely modernised. At the same time, though, one thing I find to be a shame in the show is that Jaskier and his relationship to Geralt are largely used as comic relief when I feel like so many other sides to the character and relationship could be explored as well - among other things Jaskier’s eloquence and taste for good conversation, his devotion, his bravery, etc. Of course, presumably all characters on the show had to be simplified and boiled down to something concise and easily digestable to a TV audience bc of limitations of time and medium, but still, it’s a bit sad to think about all the nuances and subtleties that couldn’t be included 😔
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Obv I don’t know all that’s in store for him at this point, but I do wish Jaskier would get his happy ending with Geralt and spend lovely, peaceful, intimate time with him on the coast as he so wants 😭💗 As much as I adore Geralt, he also needs (in the show mind you, bc in the books it’s an entirely different story) to get his head out of his own ass and start treating Jaskier with the affection and respect I know he feels but won’t allow himself to show - Jaskier deserves it 🌸 Ideally the mountaintop fight would never have taken place at all rip, and I wish I could undo all the small instances when Geralt was unnecessarily mean to Jaskier for no reason, although obv that’s all part of Geralt having his own struggles, being really bad at receiving love and expressing his emotions, etc. :(
Sam Gamgee
How I feel about this character: My love, my hero, my darling!!!! Sam is one of my all-time faves, no doubt about it 😭💕💝💞🌈
All the people I ship romantically with this character: FRODO AND SAM ARE EACH OTHER’S TRUE LOVES 💖💖💖💖 If I had to choose one single pairing in the history of ever, it’d be them 🌹
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Not sure this qualifies as an OTP in any shape or form, but I find Sam’s relationship to Sméagol very interesting ddfgjs
My unpopular opinion about this character: I really dislike whenever people claim that Sam is the only true hero of the Quest and invalidate Frodo’s strength, bravery and sacrifice in the process. While I do very much agree with the fact that Sam played a crucial part in the success of the Quest and Frodo wouldn’t have succeeded without his unfailing love and support, I strongly believe both their parts are not to be undermined. Victory is made possible bc Sam and Frodo rely on each other and complete each other - they each contribute something invaluable on their own, and it’s their teamwork that ultimately saves the day 🌻 I think it’s unfair to give Sam all the credit simply bc he’s perhaps a more traditionally ‘likeable’ character with his humour and boundless dedication, and I also think it’s important to remember that Sam would resent the idea of people not giving Frodo the praise he deserves 💫
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I’m not sure I’d wanna change anything, actually? I feel like Sam is where he’s meant to be the entire time, and the fact that he gets to reunite with Frodo in what is pretty much the afterlife at the end of his story seems like the perfect conclusion for him: love, warmth and home ❤️🌷
Send me a character and I’ll break their ass down 💌
