His wife struggled to cope with everything and decided to sell the house and go to live closer to her family, you understood and took up a flat in the city thanks to a helpful sum of money left to you in your brothers will. And that's where you've been ever since, you felt so bored and stuck in this place and job, yes you loved police work, but it wasn't like it used to be.

One day, you were sat at your desk, signing an arrest warrant for one of your next jobs, when your colleague Amanda approaches your desk. "Hey Y/N?" "Yeh, what's up?" This was completely out of the blue, Cash still had you as your emergency contact? It's been over 5 years since you've seen eachother, how will he react to seeing you again, how will YOU react? You talk to your boss and tell him the situation, you had taken no holiday that years and you decided to use some for going down to see Cash, your boss accepted and you left the department to pack, thankfully you were only working a morning shift so it was just a short drive home in the early afternoon. You packed your things and headed down the motorway and back towards the old town you used to call home. It was so nostalgic when you finaly entered the town again, so many little memories were flashing before your eyes, going past every little shop or street, and seeing things from your past, it was wonderful. When you arrived at the hospital, you parked your car and got out, but you were suddenly overcome by a nauseating feeling. Not only were you about to see Cash for the first time again, but you didn't know what state he would be in. If you were called for an emergency, what was wrong with him? You couldn't get the details from the nurse at the time, but it must have been serious if they called you. You steadied your breath and walked into the hospital and up to the main reception. "Hi, I'm Y/N L/N. I'm hear to see Cash" "Ah yes miss L/N, we've been expecting you, I'm Holly, the nurse who phoned you. Please, follow me" You did as she said as she lead you through the hospital. It's why he's in hear, he sustained a few injuries, including a broken rib and a sprained foot"

"God that sounds awful" "He was unconscious when he was brought in, but he should be up and awake now. Apart from those two injuries, only a few bruises and minor lacerations were also something he'd received, but they should be healing nicely by now" She took you around a corner and right infront of a private hospital room. "He's right in there, I'm just going to collect some paperwork and I'll be right with you" "Oh, ok..." She walks away and leaves you to walk in alone, the curtain is drawn around his bed so you'd have to walk around, what was he going to look like? You take another few steps to the certain, and as you turn, that's when you see him. He looked so tired, he looked like he could fall alseep at the click of your fingers. He had a pained look on his face, a few cuts and bruises and he appeared to be struggling to take proper breaths, it broke your heart seeing him like this. "Cash? Is that you?" When he looked in your direction, his eyes went wide with shock, but then smoothed into wonder and suprise. "Y/N?....oh my god....what? what are you doing hear? "Wondeful, if I could get you to both sign this paperwork, I can let you go home Mr Cash" You sign your part and hand it to Cash, while the nurse pulls you aside for a moment to talk. "He's going to need to rest as much as possible, he's going to have to be off that foot too, are you ok with helping him with that?" "Yeh that's no problem" "The recovery for his rib takes about 4-6 weeks, and his foot will be about 4 weeks too, as long as he stays off it" "That's not a problem, I'll make sure he's fine" They discharge him from the hospital and he is given a crutch to help with his foot as he walks, he knows what he has to do, but if you remember Cash from when you worked together, he can be quite insistent on doing things for himself.

You walked together to your car and you helped him in, then you drove him to his house, he still lived in the same house from when you last saw him. You opened the front door for him and let him inside, helping his slowly sit down on the sofa. "I feel like I've been crippled" "You've not been crippled you idiot, your just in recovery" "Y/N? When the time came, you helped him get up the stairs, he was fine getting dressed and showered by himself, but according to the nurse, that was all he was allowed to do, and when he did that he had to be careful and slow about it. Once you knew he was safely in bed, you made your way to the spare room and went to bed yourself, it was strange being back, it was strange being around Cash again...but a good strange" For the next few weeks, you would cook and tidy up after yourself as you helped Cash, he would be stubborn when he said he could help you, but you would always know how to make him listen to you, it was just like old times when you worked together, and the more and more you spent time with him, the more those precious memories came flooding back. You laughed together, you ate together and even went out for walks and shopping together, you still made sure he wasn't doig anything he shouldn't, and strangely, he liked it when you did that. You took him back to the hospital for a check up after 8 weeks, his checks confirmed that his rib was now mended, and his foot was healed too, he was back to normal. "Yes! You slip away upstairs as he gathers his things and continues to talk to himself, and you go to the spare room and start to pack your things. It secretly upsets you a little, but you try to push it to the back of your mind, because not only will you not want to leave Cash, you don't want to leave the town in general. You really loved coming back hear, revisiting all the memories, seeing the places where you grew up, it felt like home, and the flat you had 100 miles away didn't have that feeling. "Hey! There you are, did you want me to cook tonight? I had this idea to make fajitas-....wait? What are you doing?" Your thoughts were very suddenly stopped when you heard your front door knocking, whoever it was sounded impatient. It was 7 at night, and noone you knew came to your place for a visit, so who could this be? Putting your wine glass back down, you leave the kitchen and approach the door, it kept knocking a few more times before you opened it. "Alright alright! I'm coming!
