As great as Mario Maker is, I will never forgive it for bastardizing the word "kaizo" the same way the internet bastardized "gaslighting"
#super mario maker#supber mario bros#smb#call me old fashioned; but ...#see most mario maker kaizo levels just have a high execution ceiling#when a kaizo level should instead be a level with a high execution ceiling that wants to see you fail#I think a good kaizo level would combine the mm kaizo level with the mm troll level#troll levels unfortunately usually do not require a lot of execution#just figuring out the gimmick#a big problem I have with most mm kaizo levels is the use of indicators and the same gimmicks#most levels have you swap between spin and normal jumps while throwing shells to either jump off them or switch states#if you're lucky they make you do spin jump off a bomb#the indicators just go against the spirit of a kaizo level. you shouldn't know what's coming. that's the point#you're expecting to keep retrying until you know everything it will throw at you and then die to a hidden block when jumping for the goal#speaking of... there aren't any kaizo blocks#there's nothing wrong with mm kaizo levels; they're fine; I just think they should be called something else#I think a big root of the cause is the fact that mario maker is an online game where your level is only shared if people like it#most people aren't going to like a level that intentionally tries to make you lose#hell; in the tutorial the devs even have lessons specifically telling you not to make kaizo levels#kaizo levels for the most part unfortunately cannot survive in mario maker because only a fraction of its player base appreciates them
