“T-Thank you for letting me see you on such short notice, Ren.” His voice is soft and timid, typical of the Sendou as he walks into Ren’s office. He remembers all to well the last time he was here, even though to him it’s felt like ages. His sense of time definitely had been distorted while he was asleep with the Link Joker seed inside of him. All he had been focused on at the time was keeping it at bay, keep the very thing that had hurt his family, his friends, his planet, and Cray from ever getting out and causing chaos again.

That problem is gone now, the seed having been split by his avatar and scattered across the hearts of many fighters, but the wounds of such an event still remain. For Aichi, those wounds might not ever heal, especially the ones he personally inflicted upon those he held most dear. That is why he brought himself to the Foo Fighter Headquarters that day, to see one of the people he asked to keep his existence a secret from the world after they refused to seal him away...

“Please...Please forgive me!” Aichi says after bowing his head, his voice stronger and full of his remorse and guilt “I...I shouldn’t have placed such a heavy burden on you or Leon! I should...I should have listened to you! I should have looked for other options, but...I was just so focused on protecting everyone that I...”

He stops himself there, not wanting to say any more excuses. He came here to apologize, not to ramble. Aichi will understand if no one forgives him. What he did was horrible, even if he had good intentions. Regardless, he had to let Ren, Leon, and everyone else who got into this mess just how sorry he was. It was his duty to do so. That’s what his heart had been telling him to do since his fight with Kai and the crumble of Sanctuary.

“Blaster Blade...? Everyone...? Can you...hear me?”

He isn’t sure if the Royal Paladin can hear his calls anymore, considering he’s stopped using the very power that allowed them to connect in the first place. Psyqualia was a marvelous power. With it, Aichi had felt powerful for the first time in his entire life. He was strong enough to fight back against any opposite that came his way, dish back the pain he’s been forced to endue for so many years.

It...It had felt good, real good, but...at what cost...

He treated everyone around him so horribly. His friends, his family, his opponents, and...especially his cards. Aichi had thrown aside his precious Royal Paladins, the clan that’s been with him since the start of his path, like they were garbage. How could...How could he do that? What was he thinking turning his back on them after all they have been through together?

That’s why he intends on apologizing to them as well, but without Psyqualia, can he even do that? He could tap into that power again, of course. He can still feel it, just waiting to be unleashed again from the depths of his very being. The fear of losing himself to it again is what causes him to hesitate, even if he would only be using it to talk to his units.

A sigh escapes his lips. It seems he was at an impasse. Though, that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t at least say what he has to say. Keeping the words bottled up inside wouldn’t do anyone any good. So, with a deep breath and a heavy heart, Aichi begins to speak his heart out to the cards he loved so much that he foolishly mistreated.

“I...I don’t know if you can, but...I want you all to know that I’m...really, really sorry. I...I shouldn’t have acted the way I did or did the things I did. You guys...You guys have always been there to support me. Without you, I...I wouldn’t be where I am now. Through Vanguard, I’ve gotten to make so many wonderful friends and have changed into a stronger and happier person. I guess...I guess I was just so afraid of losing what I’ve gained that I...I changed for the worse.”

He wants to make a point that he isn’t blaming Psyqualia or the gifts it brought on his actions. It didn’t manipulate him into acting like a jerk, like some magic spell. That side of Aichi, that darker side, was...was a part of him, born from years of suffering and agony. It wasn’t a part of himself that he liked or ever wanted anyone to see, but...it was still him, the part of him represented by Blaster Dark just as the other part of him was represented by Blaster Blade.

“I...I want to battle alongside you all again. I want us to be a team again, to show everyone how strong we are on our own! To show Ren and his team that...that Cardfighting is more than just about winning and losing. To show Kai and the rest of Team Q4 that...that their faith in me isn’t wasted. To show...myself that I can be strong without Psyqualia!”

He then holds his deck box close to his chest, holding it tenderly as his cerulean hues close. Small droplets of water begin to form behind the closed eyes, his heart being put on full display for the cards in his deck who may or may not be listening to his cries.

“Please...Please let me fight with you! Let me fight with you all again!”

...

“My Vanguard...”

That voice...

It...It couldn’t be...

Could it...?

That’s when Aichi then opens his eyes, finding himself once again on the surface of the planet Cray. The rocky mountains and bright blue sky surround him, the very place he had seen at the end his battle with Kai. And waiting for him, standing on the other side near the rock formations, was...him.

“Blaster Blade...? B-But...how...? I-I thought that-”

“Psyqualia was never the bridge that connected us, my Vanguard. Our connection...was made long before you got that power.”

As the knight spoke, Aichi took notice fully of his surroundings. Behind Blaster Blade, standing on the rocky formations, was...every single unit in his deck. His Royal Paladins...all gathered together before him. It was...incredible. Was he...dreaming?

“We’ve heard your words, my Vanguard. We understand your feelings. And we...desire the same as you.”

Blaster Blade then takes a few steps forward towards the human. Aichi noticeably tenses up. He’s nervous, incredibly so despite being among trusted comrades. That feeling though slightly goes away as the knight’s hand is outstretched towards the human, an offer for him to take his hand. Did...Did this mean...?

“W-Wait!” Aichi calls out, a response out of panic and anxiety. It wasn’t one of rejection, more so caution. “Do you...Do you really think I’m still...still worthy? Even after...what I did?”

“Every brave hero, even the noblest and true ones, goes down the wrong path sometimes. We all make mistakes. We are no different than you.” After all, unbeknownst to Aichi, they were in a conflict with former comrades, the very ones Aichi had fought alongside himself. “It takes true strength and courage to stand up after your failures, to right your wrongs, to admit to your mistakes...And true strength and courage is...the power you’ve had inside of you all along even now, my Vanguard.”

“True strength and courage...” Aichi repeats the words, ones he swears to never forget again that are now forever etched into his heart. It’s only then that he takes his avatar’s hands, shaking them firmly with a determined look in his eyes. The units then nod to him, Blaster Blade soon following suit.

Together, they were going to set things right. Together, they were going to help Team Q4 win the nationals. Together, they were going to stop Ren and Team Asteroid. Together, they were going to fight as one.

The boy then finds himself back in his bedroom, just as he had been before. A smile then graces his own face, gently moving his deck box to his pocket before racing out the door. He calls to his mother, telling her he’s heading out to the card shop. He had some things he needed to say to his teammates too, more comrades he hopes will forgive him and allow him to fight alongside once again.

It had become that time again, time to seal himself away for the sake of protecting the world below, and with it came a sense of nostalgia. He’s been through this painful process before with those he recruited from overseas, the sad expressions on everyone’s face as he bore a brave smile ever etched into his memory. Rati’s tears were the most vivid image of them all, and it nearly broke his heart to have to leave her in such a state.

This time, however, it was going to be much more painful than the first time. For unlike before, the Quatre Knights who would seal him away were his dear friends. This was the kind of scenario Aichi had wished to avoid, knowing that those close to him would do all they could to stop him. After all, he can’t blame them for caring about him, even if the whole world’s future was at stake.

Those feelings of his friends had all been entrusted to Kai, who challenged Aichi to a fight to determine the future. Kai faced him with no hesitation in his heart, despite the high stakes. Aichi had given him and everyone else present an ultimatum. If he defeated everyone, Kai, Naoki, Ren and Leon, then they would become the next Quatre Knights and once again seal him away.

“Aichi...I understand your resolve. If I lose, I’ll become a Quatre Knight and seal you away.

But...I will not lose!”

Aichi still remembers vividly the flames of passion burning in Kai’s heart as when spoke those words, and he knew that he would have to give it everything he had in order to stop him. Using Link Joker on the person he cared about more than any other was hard, but he had stopped thinking about that and instead focused on the bigger picture. Individual happiness and some suffering meant nothing in the face of a threat targeting two worlds, and sealing himself away was the only way to protect them and everyone who lived there.

Even at the cost of Aichi himself...

It was the result of that conflict that’s lead everything to this point, the four knights standing before him now prepared to seal him away. Aichi senses no air that they won’t go through with this. They were, after all, honorable fighters who accepted the terms of their matches and would follow them to the end. Though, it was plain to see they were not happy about this, and...to be honest, neither was Aichi.

This was going to nearly break him in two...

“Naoki, Ren, Leon, Kourin...I...I need to talk to Kai before we begin. I...I promise it won’t take long.” Aichi bears the weak smile, one that was meant to hide his sadness. He doesn’t doubt they can see through the false expression, yet he still does it anyway. Perhaps it’s more for himself than anything, to give him the resolve to...say goodbye to all of them and those who he forced to forget about him.

Seeing his loved ones right in front of him...It was almost too much to bear...

The three knights and the one who took his burdens then left towards the inner chambers of the rebuilt Sanctuary, leaving Aichi and Kai alone with nothing but the view of the planet before. Despite being up here for so long, he had yet to tcake the chance to enjoy the view. Earth surely was beautiful. He hopes it will remain so even long after he’s asleep.

“Kai...” The teen’s voice is so soft and gentle as he says his name, a stark contrast from his serious attitude he had during his fight with him not too long ago. This...This was his last chance to speak to him before he’s gone forever. Aichi knows that after this there is no turning back. Why? Because...Because he knows Kai won’t lose...to anyone.

Kai will protect him with everything he has for he is the strongest person he knows. Aichi can see it in his emerald hues as he stares at him with fondness, even if he is well aware of how he disagrees with this method. It makes him both as happy and sad as he can be that the other will be there to watch over him, happy that he won’t be alone but sad in knowing how much pain he is causing Kai at this moment.

He wishes there was another way, but...there isn’t. This was the only way, and he is the only one who can stop Link Joker from causing havoc once more.

He just...He just wishes he had more time...with him.

Aichi slowly moves forward towards Kai, no hesitation in his movements as he gets closer. Blue locks then fall on the shoulders of the taller man as he rests his body upon the other’s. He feels Kai’s warmth, like a gentle flame that’s in sharp contrast to the coldness he feels. It’s a comfort. He only hopes he can feel that warmth even from behind the seals, like a blanket wrapping around his heart.

“Kai...I’m...I’m sorry...I’m sorry things must be like this. I...I wish I could continue living with you and everyone...However, that...that isn’t what fate had decided for me...or for you.” He sighs, lowering his walls and showcasing the true tragic feelings he’s been holding in. Small tears even well up in his eyes as he tries to get all the words out he can in what time he has left.

“Even though I know this is a selfish thing to ask, please...please take care of Emi and my mom, Kamui, Misaki and Shin, Shingo, Miwa, Morikawa, and...everyone else for me...Please promise me that you will, Kai...” Tears fall onto the other’s jacket, Aichi’s body trembling from the emotions. He can feel himself starting to break, like cracks that form when enough pressure is applied to glass. He hopes he can hold himself together long enough to at least say one last thing, the thing he most wanted to tell Kai.

“I...I can only trust this to you...” His gaze shifts up towards him, softening once again in spite of the tears in his eyes.

“The...The person that I...” His feet shift upwards, Aichi on his top toes as his faces moves in to the point where his lips are now touching the other’s own cheek.

“The person that I love...with all my heart...”

“Aichi Sendou, why do you let them treat you as so?” Reaching over, Mulan reached over to brush his hair to the side, “do you not know how to defend yourself?”

The junior high school boy pauses at the question from the older woman, one that he’s been asked before numerous times. Ever since he was young, he’s gotten beaten up in one shape or form. Sometimes it’s through vocal attacks, and others it’s a full on beating. He remembers the look on his mother’s face when he used to come home from school with a whole array of scratches and bruises. It got so bad to the point where he had to go to a different junior high school instead of the junior high division of his elementary school.

His cerulean eyes close, taking some time to think about how to exactly answer as the other showed gentle care. Aichi isn’t used to this kind of physical touch outside of his mother, little sister, or even Misaki, but it’s the type he needs so desperately. He needs to learn that not all touches were meant to hurt him, a hard mindset to change considering his past experiences.

“I...I’m not...I’m not strong like that, M-Miss Mulan...” He had become pretty good and confident with a Vanguard deck since his reunion with Kai and his regular trips to the card shop after school, but that didn’t exactly translate to physical strength to defend oneself from enemies. “I...I don’t know...how to fight back...All I know how to do is...run away, avoid the situation, or...just...take it...”

Things now were nowhere near as bad as they used to be. In fact, two of the people who had once picked on him were now two of his good friends. Though, they were Vanguard Cardfighters. Those outside that hobby still didn’t see Aichi as any different than who he was before getting into the game, and well...that still meant to them he was an easy target.

“B-But...it’s okay...I’m...I’m used to it, and...things have gotten better lately...It doesn’t happen...as much as it did before.”

The world is unfair and cruel. It is a lesson Aichi Sendou has known all to well. His entire life he’s been bullied for petty reasons like his shyness, his good grades, or just because someone didn’t like his face. He can still feel the bruises on his skin, even if a good many of them have healed and no longer show physical marks. Though, what always remained were the emotional scars. They were ones, that sadly, probably won’t ever heal. How could they when they ran so deep?

Well, at least that’s what one would say if he hadn’t met...him again. The one person who made him feel happy, the one person who was kind and generous to him despite being a total stranger, had finally returned into his life for the first time in ages. He doesn’t know how the Cardfighter found him. All he remembers was feeling an intense pain all throughout his body, consuming his entire being until it slowly lifted as he awoke inside the safety of a sealed off and well-guarded room inside the Tatsunagi building he now laid in.

It had no windows. It had no doors. It had nothing but a bed, a table, chairs, an attached bathroom, and a small kitchenette. It was completely sealed off from the outside world, the cruel world that always had it out for him. He doesn’t mind this arrangement, however. In fact, he felt...secure inside this isolated place, this sanctuary from the harsh reality of what took place outside it’s walls that had no one who could hurt him, since the only other person who could enter this space was the only person left he could trust: Toshiki Kai.

After all, he had no other friends. His sister and mother, while he still loved them, he realized through Kai’s words that they had done little to help him, to protect him. They encouraged him to go out into the world, forced him to go to school where would just get bullied over and over. They just made things worse, as did everyone else in this cruel world other than the green-eyed teen who Aichi solely had been relying on to take care of him since he was found.

He lays down on the bed, the one Kai had offered to him, simply staring up at the ceiling. The room was quiet and peaceful, two things that Aichi Sendou had never really known truly until he had been rescued. If he had been presented the choice, he’d choose to never leave Kai’s side and remain here in this safe haven forever.

After all, why would he want to leave the side of the person who he admired the most? The person who was the strongest? The person who promised he’d always protect him in order to return to that cruel outside world?

The person who he had deep feelings for ever since their eyes locked that day...

Sadly, his peaceful rest is interrupted as he feels a sharp pain in his forehead, one that causes him to scream out in agony. Dulled cerulean hues shut rapidly, but they do little to stop the pain and what came with it. Aichi’s mind was then flooded with images, images of people he doesn’t recognize. They are all shouting his name, all calling out to him, but they are then transformed into shadowy figures who then start to laugh earlier as they came closer.

His body moves to hit the back of bedframe, his screaming not ceasing for a moment. The sounds of these nightmare hallucinations and his thudding heartbeat fill his ears, Aichi then moving to place his hands over them. It almost feels as if his body is being torn apart, like when those bullies would constantly punch and kick him. That would certainly explain the red aura around his body that seemed to flicker to a blue color, like two sides clashing for control.

Little did he know that this pain was coming from a good source, one trying to save him from the darkness that clouded his heart, mind, and spirit...

“Kai! Kai, please help!” He calls out to the other despite Kai not being in the room at this moment, but Aichi knows he’ll come. Kai has always come to his aid when he was in trouble. He did when he needed the strength to keep living, and when he was found alone and cold the other day.

He’ll save him from this pain, this nightmare, from the friends monsters haunting his eyes, and he’ll be safe again. He has faith in the promise the other made. It is what he is sure of more than anything.

Aichi had no idea where his newest friend, the kind hearted and energetic Usagi Tsukino, was taking him that afternoon. She had managed to rope him into a mystery outing without much of a fight, even if he was certainly a bit hesitant. He wasn’t exactly the most...social guy. Sure he had tons of friends, but they all had been made through Vanguard. The fact he managed to connect to Usagi without his favorite hobby in the world was a miracle in of itself.

Guess that just shows how much he’s changed ever since Vanguard and Kai came back into his life. He certainly wasn’t the same Aichi Sendou from over a year ago. That was a fact. Though, that did not mean his entire nature had changed. He was still as timid and soft-spoken as ever when he wasn’t in his element, Aichi not speaking much as he allowed the other to guide him to the mystery location she kept talking about.

The teen’s head then looked upwards as they stopped in front of a store front, one called The Crown. It was a place he’s never been to in the city. Then again, he hadn’t exactly had much reason to do exploring. He was already comfortable with his regular hang out spots. Though, learning about more places to do outings with the Cardfight Club certainly wasn’t a bad thing. He can get that out of this trip at the very least, along with getting to know the excitable blonde better.

He then takes a step inside, his eyes widening at the sights before him. A large array of arcade games surrounded him, from racing games, to claw machines, to even classic platformers. Despite being an avid player of Vanguard, he wasn’t really into other kinds of games. He can’t even recall the last time he’s ever been to one of these, if he’s ever been to one at all. His little sister Emi would remember those details better, surley. He could be forgetful at times, after all.

“Oh wow...This is....amazing...There are...so many games in here...I don’t even know where to look...” A soft voice of awe and wonder escapes his lips. Even if he wasn’t a video gamer, he can’t deny how incredible the sight of all of these machines was. Just shows how little he actually got out if he thinks this is impressive, considering how common arcades are in Japan.

He then turns towards Usagi, realizing something as he gets over the initial shock and awe. “Wait...Does this mean you enjoy playing games, Miss Usagi? Is that why you brought me here? So we could...play together?”

“What in the...?” Aichi awakens slowly, his astral spirit overwhelmed with a sense of unease for a reason he is not sure. When he opens his eyes, he is taken a back by his surroundings. White stone pillars and a view of the planet Earth overtake his vision. Just what was he seeing in this image? Is this just... a dream?

He then moves about the space to try and figure things out. Even in spirit form, he can somehow feel the coldness of the atmosphere. The place looked pretty, especially with the view of the planet below, but felt...so empty. The feeling of unease seemed to only increase as he approaches what appeared to be the tallest pillar near the back of the area. He really felt like he wasn’t going to like what he was going to see.

Once he finally managed to see what was on the other side of it, his senses are proven right...sort of? It more leaves him shocked than anything else because what he sees is...

“Me? Is that...Is that supposed to be me?” Cerulean hues glance at the mirror image of himself, draped in black and seeming to be asleep? Curiously, he moves to approach a bit closer, but is soon stopped by a glow of red aura that now surrounds his double’s body. “W-What exactly am I doing here? A-And what is that presense? It feels just like...”

Aichi then gasps, eyes widening as he takes a step back to glance over the other all together. He was horrified at the realization, hoping he could wake up from whatever nightmare this was. Sadly for him, it was no ordinary dream but rather an image of the future. Well...a potential future for him, anyway.

“Oh no...This...This can’t be...It’s...It’s just like... The Void?! But...but how?!”
