I forgot to make a note of this too. Curse of the Crimson Throne update since we’ve just finished a book.
We beat Scarwall!
So I think the last update I made was up to us defeating the Chained Spirit. The next goal from there was to find Serethtial (which the party and I, including the DM, have been pronouncing and spelling wrong). We had found out from the now unchained spirit that we needed to get into the spooky basement via the Star Tower.
A Star Tower being one of the structures that pin Rovagug in the middle of the earth. They’re super important and we do not break them.
After a little debate we decided to head to the top of the tower where there was a secret door and headed in. It wasn’t super exciting until we reached the bottom of the tower. Down there we found a ‘well’ filled with thick blue mist and...
Uh, a big old beastie called a Nightwing.
This one specifically named Ildervok, the curate of this Star Tower.
And it was looking to recruit a new curate after eight centuries.
Well...none of us fancied it. Even our Zon Kuthon worshipping NPC buddy Laori wasn’t interested despite being the only Lawful Evil member of our team. Ildervok then offered it to Syys since he was the next closest.
At this point we realised that Iliya and Wenyld were literally the worst and literal polar opposite to what this guy was after (the two Chaotic Good people) so we started a fight.
A real easy fight minus the beastie removing all our buffs.
(Blasted a Meta Magic Maximised Fan of Flames, which is 10d8, into it’s face too. Fan of Flames being a spell made by Iliya’s senpai and the DM’s PC, Sarissa. Also a Magus and possibly a Rakshasa???)
From there we all recklessly jumped into the well to find it was a transportation thing and ended up in some caves beneath Scarwall. They opened up into a massive cavern with an underground lake, and off in the distance in the ceiling of this huge cavern...Serethtial.
The DM described the lake as being so placid it appeared to be a sheet of obsidian...minus a single tiny ripple.
So Iliya lobbed some stones in and awakened Kleestad, a Cursed Beast of Zon Kuthon and the guardian of Serethtial.
This was a messy fight but also...incredible. The DM is a fantastic story teller and an amazing RPer and he played Laori so motivationally. We were all super hyped and just...letting lose of this monster.
Did I mention it was probably about 20ft tall...maybe more? it was a 4x4 token either way.
And every hit applied pain (a -4 to attack and damage).
And it KO’d Syys in the water.
Badly.
Luckily Laori loves our party so much (we made her cry because we said she was our friend and there was no one else we’d rather have with us. Khash, the Orc Skald...less our friend. There’s more to that) that she’d walk across water to retrieve the unconscious and drowning lizard.
Iliya’s final move was to take flight with her Celestial armor with sprouts her a pair of angelic wings, slap a Blood Boil spell on this big boy and wait for him to die. Which he did and we celebrated hard.
But not before Iliya flew across this 70-100ft lake, took Serethtial from the roof and bought her back.
Serethtial presented herself as a bastard sword when she was hidden but on Iliya taking hold of her she transformed into a rapier. We were very happy with this...and all of the suggestions that Wenyld take the sword went out the window.
Apparently Serethtial takes the form for the sword the appropriate holder is most comfortable with. As Wenyld is a walking armory he confused her. Syys has no use for weapons.
But now Iliya has reached maximum Edge being a golden horned pit-fiend Tiefling in Celestial plate armor that sprouts which angel wings...wielding a holy sword.
It’s perfect.
Wenyld: Your brother (LG Paladin of Iomedae) is gunna need some new pants when he sees this. Iliya: Why is he...oH GOD. YeAH NO YOU’RE RIGHT.
On leaving Scarwall we were reunited with the red dragon that Kharash has enslaved and Iliya is still determined to free him. The Orc wanted 100k GP to trade for him but Iliya can’t morally buy a sentient being or give money to an Evil warmonger. She very enarly had to be restrained as she was about to kill Kharash.
Kharash thinks she has a crush on him.
Iliya thinks that marrying him and murdering him would work.
DM: A thought bubble pops up above your head as you think this. It’s Grau with his arms folded looking very sad. Iliya: Oh...I couldn’t. Nafe: Is he wearing an apron? DM: Like a house husband? Probably.  Wenyld: If it’s Iliya thinking this then the apron is probably all he’s wearing like something from one of her novels. Iliya:...I am ok with this.
Wenyld: (a little later) You’d upset your boy back home. Iliya: I wouldn’t actually do it. My thought bubble proves it! DM: Ah yes, that’s proof enough. Sexy maid thoughts.
