the veins and arteries and various capillaries of your circulatory system are referred to as blood vessels. this is extremely stupid. vessels are closed objects, not connecting tubes. we should either use "blood vessels" to refer to closed containers within blood, like red blood cells, or we should use it to refer to the entire closed circulatory system, in which case the human body only contains a single blood vessel
