People need to understand, just because you can accept it and move on, doesn’t mean it’s okay.
This generation is simultaneously so overwhelmingly apathetic to shit they don’t understand, and also way too fucking accepting and not being skeptical towards ideas that on their face are phrased as great, but surrounding it is agenda and horridly crafted ideology that only a teenager could find poetic instead of insidious.
For example, sure, you can avoid microtransactions, doesn’t make them okay, or non-harmful in the long run. Just because it’s a new idea, doesn’t mean it’s good, that goes for newer versions of existing stuff.
I don’t get how the hell people can look at shit that benefits them, especially if it was already free, most of the time always free, and go “You know, this rich person said he’d increase his wealth by 0.0093% if they cut content out of the product and raise the price! That sounds like a good fucking deal to me!”
These idiots seem to always look at companies as if they’re teetering on bankruptcy, or having an emotional breakdown, like they’re friends or some shit. And like man, no. You seriously have to separate creators from their creation, especially when it comes to business, any money involved, or a massive fucking company.
You’re not even doing them favors. You’re just letting them manipulate you via your own decision making and internal logic. I couldn’t imagine how ya’ll find that to be a healthy or okay mindset, but realize there’s an entire world out there that’s influenced by solely money. And it’s not your neighbor’s, it’s not your friends or family, it’s the corporations, lobbying, tax dodging, slavery, horrid working conditions, and a fuckload more that can only be done when you already are a massive in-house brand with a shitload of money.
If these people weren’t so apathetic towards realizing time moves on more than just that moment of decision, that actions of multiple add up towards a growing problem, that fanboy-ism simply is all in their mind and they’re larping a fabrication of slippery slopes in order to manipulate themselves into getting that dopamine boost from “defending their friend Nintendo”, then maybe they could start accepting that they’ll need to, at the very least, sometimes, skip a game, or dlc/season pass/pre-order/microtransaction, or whatever equivalent, that the quality would only go up in order to increase demand, and to retain a standard, not an infinitely growing one, that would only benefit them, the consumer, and the rest of the world?
Imagine if these companies couldn’t just copy paste games, or work on them for less than a year and still charge 60$, or if you didn’t have to pay thousands of dollars to have all the skins in a game, and if they were instead, content updates, like in the past.
Imagine if companies HAD to have a good working enviroment, and not threaten blackmail to every employee who gets sick of the whip. Imagine if companies went bankrupt after being found out to use child slavery, like Nestle? Imagine if the pay was worth a shit everywhere, and prices were outrageous for record setting profits of pretty much every company/brand.
Imagine if we had standards, and cared enough to simply not financially or socially support a company that uses child slavery, or conveyor belt factory made media, imagine if XYZ fucking mattered for a second.
Unfortunately. These people aren’t defending the rich on any basis of deep thought, or any genuine understanding of the situation, just their want to larp a fantasy version of events. They don’t care that Nintendo would sell all the blood in their body if the maximum gained was for a mere dollar. They don’t need to believe reality, because the only thing they feel, the only affect they get, is that defending those that won’t ever talk to them, imaginary friends, is far more stimulating than accepting reality is shit, and they’re shit, their friends are shit, their family is shit, I’m shit, and everyone they meet is shit.
I get it. It’s hard accepting the world is probably rated at 30/100 and not your childlike version of the world where nothing is complex and you don’t have to sit and feel like shit about stuff you can’t change. That goes away though. You grow out of that. You don’t grow apathetic most times either, instead, you start to understand the world, and genuinely, deeply, hate your past self.
But I’m telling you. All ya gotta do. Is not buy something. I know, it’s hard not to in this capitalist hellscape of advertising every couple minutes. And it’s not a fun transition into off-brands.
But for fucks sake. If you literally had only one thing, to fix most of the world’s problems, it’s standing up for yourself, changing your fucking diaper for boxers, and DON’T DO THE THING. Don’t Buy Shit. That’s it. That’s all you fucking have to do in order to raise the standard of living for all and yourself. Don’t. Do. The. Thing. Easy as fuck god damnit.
Have some standards folks. For yourselves. You suck. I suck too. So work on ourselves. Don’t Consume. Someone else will always come and take their place. If they’re worse, welcome to the future of what would’ve happened had you kept supporting the previous company. Oh no! It came a few years or months sooner than I want!
Don’t Consume. Don’t like the replacement? They’ll be replaced, or do better, if you Don’t Do The Thing.
Can’t believe this lazy fucking humanity and they’re total want for laziness, and yet, they go out of their way to make things worse simply by Consuming.

How I Feel About My Switch, Now…
Tumblr media
My journey on switch has been a bit of a roller coaster. On one hand, I had an amazing opening title to play in Breath of the Wild. It has given me loads of hours of game play on my switch. After that, I purchased Fast RMX, which I’ll be doing another review for. With a title like BotW competing with it however, it didn’t see a whole lot of use from me. Outside of that I had the Snipperclips demo downloaded, which had more than enough gameplay for myself and my 3 year old daughter. Now that Snipperclips Plus is coming out I may forgo downloading the first version altogether and wait for the new one. For months after beating BotW, my Switch sat and gathered dust. That is, until this last October when Super Mario Odyssey came out. I’m not saying that nothing good came out in that time, because huge titles like Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were released and they were excellent titles. I just didn’t purchase them because I’m not so good at first person shooters and I had Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U already.
Tumblr media
Now that I have a few of the games I wanted, the Switch is changing my mind about Nintendo. Let’s be honest, the Wii U was not a great seller, but that had NOTHING to do with the console itself. It was a good idea, had some of the best Nintendo games ever on it, and did  a lot of things right. However Nintendo screwed up it’s launch and execution beyond repair. I think the Wii U will be an interesting case study for marketing experts, because it will prove that branding and marketing a worthwhile product badly, is enough to completely kill it. EVEN when it is released by a company as big as Nintendo. The Switch is a nice turnaround, however, because it looks like Nintendo learned from many of their mistakes. They created a product, and marketed it under a new and interesting brand. They realized that their biggest draw was their games, so they set to work trying to create titles that were complete smash hits. Consequently this meant that the release titles were a tad sluggish, but I think we are putting Nintendo under an unfair microscope as many consoles are pretty bare their first year in regards to launch titles. Now that I’ve played Odyssey, BotW, Fast RMX, Pokken Tournament DX, and many of the numerous demo titles they have out, I can say that Nintendo has made me a fanboy again. Those features aren’t gimmicks, they REALLY WORK! The many different playable configurations of the Switch were thought early on to be gimmicks of sorts, but after using the Switch in a real life setting, I can tell you it’s one of my favorite systems to play now. I never thought I’d get used to playing laying down with my hands at my sides with split Joycons but I can solidly say that this is now my favorite way to play games and I feel completely spoiled! Come on Playstation! Come on Xbox! Why haven’t ya’ll thought of this?! The Switch also looks GREAT in portable mode! I have not bought any of the extra peripherals like the pro controller or the charging grip, because after playing with split Joycons I have no interest in wrapping my hands around a regular controller anymore. Plus, the split Joycons are perfect for playing with my kids! In addition, I can literally take a bath and never stop playing my games! I can get up and sit in the living room, sit on the bus, get on an airplane, take a dump, ALL WHILE NEVER STOPPING MY GAME PLAY! That is utterly ridiculous, but also wonderful!
However, not everything is perfect. After BotW, I just kind of ran out of gas for a bit. It was SO incredibly good, that playing anything else just kind of felt like a break between Zelda sessions. I wish the screen was bigger, I wish the media apps were there, I wish voice chat worked without a phone, I wish the joycon attachment mechanism felt a little sturdier, I wish it had more memory, I wish the layout looked nicer and was more customizable, I wish the Nintendo Store wasn’t such a gaudy, disorganized mess, I wish the games were a little less expensive, and for God sake, I wish there were achievements that meant something. I have plenty of requests, but they are seriously overshadowed by the unique things this console can do. They are also overshadowed by just where I can do these things.
Ultimately, I’m not unhappy with my decision.  The Switch and I have had an interesting start, but it’s at least good enough that I spent time writing about it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the time I’ve had with the Nintendo Switch and with a number of big titles slated to come out here in the fall and holiday season, I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time with it.
Should you buy one? I honestly think that anyone who has small kids but still loves gaming and grew up during the console surge of the late 80′s and early to mid 90′s will love this console. It offers great portability, and excellent callbacks to when I was younger. It does all of this while offering stunning visuals and enticing game play. It has given me the opportunity to introduce my kids to something that I fell in love with growing up. It also has made it competitive enough in today’s electronic market. I honestly don’t feel like the $300 price tag was unreasonable, and so far Nintendo has proven that it can produce chart topping gaming hits for people of all ages.  So...yes...

About Ship wars
Ok, well don't say I didn't warn you. A couple terms first: * Shipping - Derived from "relationship." Imagining two characters being romantic. This is usually accompanied by producing fanworks that depict those characters in a romantic situation. The relationship can be canonical or not, and the fan works can be everything from PG handholding to XXX vore. (If someone ships Kylo Ren/Rey it means they like to think of them in a romantic/sexual relationship.) The pairing itself is called a ship. * Shipwar - When shippers of two different ships attack each other over their ships. * Wank - common fandom term for drama * Antis - People who invest energy in attacking shippers of a particular ship, and employ arguments of morality of social justice to do so. * Fandom in this case refers to a particular subset of fandom that is traditionally female oriented, focuses a lot of male/male pairings, and often chooses fanfiction as its primary output. There are 2 big things to remember as you read this. 1) Some people are SUPER SERIOUS about fictional characters getting it on together, and 2) they will use any means at their disposal to stop people from doing it wrong. Imagine the ridiculousness of PS vs. Nintendo fanboys ratcheted up to 11 and you get an idea of how some fans approach shipping. Generic ship wars have been happening for a very long time. If you thought Harry Potter deserved to fall in love with Draco Malfoy and Ginny was the devil you were in good company and would gather together to get those dirty Ginny fans run out of the internet. Bad actors have always been around to exploit this, either to troll, or to worm their way into popular or rarefied circles. [The Ms. Scribe Story](http://web.archive.org/web/20140401225619/http://www.peeep.us/0418dc98) is a good example of what the old school shipwars could produce as far as wank was concerned. And in it you see the seed of what would become the modern "Anti" mentality, which is framing yourself as a victim of bigots to win sympathy points, all for the purpose of forwarding your preference of who bangs who. This portion of fandom has always been closely linked with genre fiction, since many people in the latter are engaged in the former. Genre fiction had and still has some issues concerning race, sexism, and homophobia, which is par for the course in almost all media everywhere. In 2009 those issues came into contact with some MASSIVE WANKERS, leading to what continues to be known as [Race Fail '09](https://fanlore.org/wiki/RaceFail_%2709). A lot of people don't know this, but the term Social Justice Warrior started to pick up usage around this time, to define some very particular, very caustic people who were destroying communities by claiming the moral high ground and attacking anyone who had an opinion even slightly different from them. A few of them are listed at that link. It quickly became apparent that pointing the finger and claiming -ism! was an efficient method of silencing certain people. Fandom, however, remained relatively insulated from this fail, which was spreading mostly in certain websites and in professional circles at the time. In '09 the internet was still relatively decentralized, and fandom was dispersed among various livejournals, archives, webforums, and so on. This limited the damage one movement could do, because just because Winterfox was shitting up one site didn't mean there was another that hadn't escaped unscathed. Enter web 2.0, and specifically, Tumblr. As the internet began to coalesce into platforms that aimed to monopolize user engagement, the separation between communities grew more and more difficult. Before, if you wanted to see Kylo Ren and General Hux having kinky tentacle sex you went to a community specifically for that and didn't have to worry about those people who had their own community for Rey and Finn. But now, all the shippers were converging into a single pot, a pot that had no filters, no privacy functions, and actively wanted everything to be shared as widely as possible. Another massive change that happened about this time is that the attitude towards kids in fandom had shifted. Back in the good old days a 13 year old understood that lying about their age was the price you paid to get your porn. The kids these days no longer have that mentality. They don't think twice about declaring themselves children on the internet. This will come into play later. Ok, as we near the present here's a quick review. * Ship wars are serious business to some people. * Screaming about social justice is a proven method of getting people to shut up. * There are some crazy people out there who will do anything to manipulate themselves into a position of infamy. * Everyone has slowly been squeezed into the same fandom spaces, adding pressure. * Children are fucking everywhere. When you combine all those elements what you get is this, some really loud ass motherfuckers who think that whoever can claim oppression and bigotry the loudest is the one who deserves to ship things the way they want, and there can be only one. There have been some reaaaaaallly bad fandoms for this, but since the OP is specifically about the age issue, I'm going to stick to that and not get into some of the ridiculous racism angles this has also taken. A lot of shows that fans like to ship for are cartoons, or shows that are ostensibly aimed towards younger audiences, but adults often are a big portion of the fandom. Ponybros are the more infamous version of this, but they are a bit of an outlier as they don't run in the same fandom circles as the old lj>tumblr fandom that is the source of this particular wank. Big targets of these conflicts include Welcome to Nightvale, Homestuck, Steven Universe, and the new Voltron series. When Voltron came out it got super popular among fandom. A lot of fic was written, and a lot of art was drawn. Since it's a show with a team cast, people were shipping a lot of pairings that shared a member, which is often where the worst of the ship wars happen. For example, two of the biggest ships were Shiro/Keith, and Keith/Lance. Now if you're a kid who ships Keith/Lance and haaaates Shiro/Keith, and you need to stop people from producing things involving Shiro/Keith, and you know accusing people of moral crimes is an effective tactic for this, it turns out your best option is to use pedophilia as a weapon. So people started insisting that Shiro had to be at least 20, and Keith had to be a minor, and shipping these two meant that you were a pedophile. No, it doesn't make any sense, but the people who do this are dead serious about this. They called themselves anti-Sheith (the pairing's "smushname") and went so far as harassing the showrunners for the exact ages of all the characters and tattling on professional artists for indicating a fondness for the ship to their employers. And if people push back and say you're being an idiot, you can throw that back in their face by saying that they are adults abusing minors while simultaneously endorsing abuse and pedophilia! 20 year olds started calling themselves children so they could position themselves in a place to abuse 22 year olds. Teens started declaring 30 the age in which all women should get off the internet and stop having hobbies. And all this was done because they didn't like a fictional pairing. This is by far not the only instance in which pedophilia was brought up as a massive reach to support attacking shippers of the wrong ship. One of the most absurd instances was spearheaded by a 30-something woman named graceebooks, a member of The Johnlock Conspiracy (another very deep rabbit hole) who actually harassed a rape survivor to tears, in public, because she preferred to have Sherlock topping John rather than John topping Sherlock, and even though these people share the same ship, and the SAME FICTIONAL CHARACTERS ARE INVOLVED, the TJLCers actually had the balls to make the claim that Sherlock topping John = pedophilia because John was being infantalized or something, IDEK. Both Voltron fandom and TJLC share this absurd notion that their "gay babies" will become a canon couple too. That's a whoooole other ball of crazy, but it explains why some people go insane over this. They genuinely believe that if they fight off the rival ships in fandom space the showrunners will reward them by making their faves kiss on the show. So that's the context. What then happened is that these idiotic arguments that were being used for ship wars were then adopted by young, stupid children who did not understand or care about the context, and saw only the arguments themselves, and took them as reasonable and good arguments, and believe in them completely. While most of the initial wankers were just cynically throwing shit at the wall and hoping something stuck to drive out rival ships, there are now a large number of people who believe in a moral code that came out of that. It's like watching a religion form sometimes. The end result is OP, who has bought into a convoluted logic process developed to legitimize the harassment of shippers, and is now trying to apply it to the actual real world, with predictable results. Soucrce: Redditor shares a detailed explanation of how Tumblr's fandom culture formed into the mess it is today, complete with examples. https://www.reddit.com/r/bestof/comments/6b5ke3/redditor_shares_a_detailed_explanation_of_how/
