Something that I think about but don't really see discussed: if Nancy & Jonathan don't end up together, how would that impact Joyce? She already feels like she hasn't been able to do right by Jonathan. She has been waiting for his Emerson letter, she'll be crushed when she realizes that he is not planning to go (especially his reasoning). So if she realizes that the distance from the move contributed to him losing Nancy on top of all of that? Joyce's arc to me has been about starting with this broken home and rebuilding it into something strong (Hopper's too ofc), and her kids going on to thrive in life would be a part of that for her. I cannot imagine that they would end things for Joyce with her feeling like one of her decisions ended up permanently costing Jonathan his love, especially when her own story led her to hers (ps: I don't blame Joyce for the move or for Jonathan's struggles, I'm just thinking about the blame that Joyce would place on herself and what it would mean for her thematically).
I honestly think the Joyce-Jonathan relationship tangentially aligned with Jancy is going to be of critical importance in setting Jonathan free from his nightmare cycle. I agree with all you have listed here and instead of typing out all my long-winded thoughts, I have complied a set that I believe makes the same argument:
