Sometimes I feel bad that I’m not very present on social media (and never have been) because I feel like I’m missing out on events and opportunities to make new friends, but for every site I can guarantee that anyone who has ever been on the internet can list a minimum of five first or second hand incidents when it was used to bully, stalk, doxx or steal from someone and how those incidents have permanently affected their ability to trust people in any situation because it was so traumatic for them

#every time I think that joining a discord group could be nice I see a story of someone who got bullied to the brink of suicide through it #I can name at least 5 youtubers that I used to like who have since deleted their channels due to being outed for sexually grooming fans #every day I keep getting recommended videos cancelling toxic twitch streamers and vtubers I've never even heard of #the school I was at last year had a tiktok incident where teachers profile pics from other sites were used in offensive videos by students #back in my day fights on msn messenger after school used to be the cause of physical fights on the playground the next day #and apparently schools today have the same problem but even worse because every 12 year old now has a phone #the person who once recommended linkedin to me deleted her account soon after because it was used by a man she linked with to stalk her irl #I logged into my old facebook acc for the first time in years and it's all just fake news and ads #today I heard a psychologist on the radio say how bad the fb metaverse vr is gonna be for mental health because it's too realistic #Elon Musk is buying twitter need I say more #I feel like it's impossible to be on social media for fun anymore there's so much to worry about #If you show your face online then you're either an innocent carefree teen or you're an influencer making money that's it
