the interesting thing about senahkuul and his perception of parent/child relationships is that one might think he just unquestionably thinks that parents are the most important thing in everyone's lives. it would even be understandable. losing his own at a very young age and having to work as a thief just to survive, it wouldn't be weird for them to think that simply having parents fixes everything and it is worth everything. but that's not exactly the case.
there have always been two main sources of comfort for senahkuul. the first is, of course, their ancestors. their parents died trying to uncover more of their family's secrets and their connection to dragons, so senahkuul has never doubted their ancestry was incredibly important. not to mention the power he has that he remembers his parents being proud of and the scales on his skin that always made him stand out in a crowd. but the second? the second is the idea that his parents are somewhere in the afterlife, missing him as much as he misses them.
and that is why senahkuul tells shadowheart to save her parents but tells wyll to break the pact. because the pain shadowheart must endure in order to be with her parents is worth it to him. because they have protected her and missed her for so many years and they deserve to be together again. but ulder? ulder feels almost like an insult to his own parents to senahkuul. because he is so sure his parents' hearts broke when they realised they are never going to see their son again, he is so sure they miss him from somewhere far beyond that the idea of a parent willingly discarding something that his parents lost? making their child go through what he has gone through on purpose? it is certainly one of those times when the word that means "fury" in senahkuul's name represents him most.
