it hadn’t been long, really. less than two days that they’d been apart. but ben and poe had been sent offworld whilst rey had stayed behind due to an injury (that rey considered very minor and a non-reason for being grounded) from their last excursion. but when the form of her dyad appeared from the falcon, she was already on her feet. sprinting across the landing pad, she leapt whole-bodied against his chest, her arms slipping around his neck and her lips spread in an adoring smile. ❝ welcome home. ❞

      he asks himself that question about fifteen times a day, which is about three times as many as he’d used to when he’d worked under Rumlow. things had definitely taken a turn for interesting ever since the new president had been elected. normally protection for her & her family would fall under the Secret Service, but one of the family members had been a special case, & well. Brock had been asked, & he’s thrown Ben under the bus in the name of it being a learning experience. not that Ben minded most days. he was DEFINITELY learning a lot. he’d been mid-chew on a piece of pizza on what’s supposed to be his day off when the text had come in, & he finally swallows, reaching for his phone. he hadn’t saved any of the numbers in it as a security measure & it didn’t really matter because he had all of them memorized by now anyway.
