also ill be totally honest. the only thing motivating me to get through bw and xy on my rewatch is the nostalgia and iris/her pokemon on bw’s part, cute espurr shots on xy’s, and then knowing that sun and moon comes after that

#also being able to say ive watched every season #im in too deep to stop now cmon #bw and xy are kinda on the same coin for me if that makes sense? i feel like their problems parallel each other and not in a good way #like for bw they planned out a ton of story beats bc yknow the games were kinda story heavy. #but then the team plasma arc got canceled so they had to drop it til bw2's iteration which fucked up the planning #and then for xy they went ''well lets write super loosely'' and that resulted in xy (not xyz) being very boring #and then theres stuff like ''well ppl thought ash was written too immature in bw so hes like a cool badass in xy thats all serious'' #(immature is a loose word i think its dumb bc hes 10. but i dont like how hes written either he feels weird #but xy making him just ''serious and cool'' didnt do it for me either. i like a blend of ''hes competent and takes risks in battles'' #as well as ''hes just a silly little dude'' #which i feel sm does really well (also dp but that could be my bias and not nearly as well done as sm) #or just the tonal problems like bw punching down way too often and being ''childish'' while xy was ''mature'' and praised the mcs #echoed voice
