Global Automated Waste Collection System Market Scenario
Waste management efficiency varies globally, heavily influenced by the economic status of different countries. Almost all waste produced is collected in economically prosperous regions, whereas in low-income countries, waste collection rates drop significantly - only about 48% in urban areas and a meager 26% in rural areas, as per World Bank statistics. Furthermore, the type of waste generated varies with the economic class, reflecting diverse consumption patterns.
Conversely, in middle and lower-income countries, organic waste constitutes over half the waste collected, and recyclable materials are just 16%. This highlights the importance of waste segregation before processing, primarily recycling. Governments worldwide are enforcing regulations for waste collection and segregation, but the scale of operation poses challenges, prompting a shift towards automated solutions.

An Immigration Crisis Beyond Imagining
January 2024 | Volume 53, Issue 1
Todd Bensman
Center for Immigration Studies
The following is adapted from a talk delivered on January 22, 2024, at the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship on Hillsdale’s Washington, D.C., campus, as part of the AWC Family Foundation Lecture Series.
In 1960, the Eisenhower administration began counting the number of foreign nationals “apprehended” or “encountered” by what was then called the U.S. Border Control when crossing into the U.S. over its southern border with Mexico. These figures have been published and closely monitored through the years, and there has never been anything like the numbers we are seeing now. A human tsunami of previously unfathomable size—Border Patrol has had to handle more than 7.6 million border crossers in 36 months—has smashed every record, with each year’s numbers exceeding the previous year’s record in stair-stepping fashion.
Of the over 7.6 million illegals encountered by Border Patrol since January 2021, the number allowed to stay inside the U.S. is somewhere north of five million. But with the percentage of those allowed to stay now approaching 100 percent, if current trends hold, the total allowed to remain in the U.S. under the Biden administration will reach ten million by next January.
The U.S. has experienced surges of illegal immigration in the past, but these have been brought quickly under control by implementing policies to deter, block, detain, and deport illegal immigrants. Not this time. To put the current numbers in perspective, consider that Jeh Johnson, President Obama’s Director of Homeland Security, told MSNBC that in his time in office—when the number of illegal crossings was relatively low—he considered it bad if apprehensions exceeded 1,000 a day, because anything more than that “overwhelms the system.” Over the past three years, apprehensions have averaged about 6,940 per day.
Even with a surge in illegal crossings in 2019—this was due to a legal loophole that encouraged illegals to cross with minors—the Trump administration had brought apprehensions down to between 800 and 1,500 a day in his final year in office, the lowest numbers in 45 years. Four months into the Biden administration, apprehensions spiked to about 6,000 per day. There were 2.4 million apprehensions in 2022, a daily average of 6,575. In 2023 there were three million apprehensions, a daily average of 8,219. Entering 2024, apprehensions were up to 12,000 to 15,000 per day.
The reality is even worse, because these numbers do not include the people who entered the U.S. illegally without being apprehended—sometimes referred to as “gotaways”—a number the Border Patrol estimates but does not make public. That estimate over the past three years is two million, bringing the three-year total of illegal immigrants to ten million—a number equivalent to the population of Greater London or Greater Chicago.
But these are just numbers. Who are these people? They are internationally diverse: 45 percent come from 170 countries outside the traditional origin countries of Mexico and Central America. Many are unaccompanied minors: 448,000 to date. More than 330 as of November 2023 are on the FBI’s terrorist watch list. Many are murderers, rapists, kidnappers, and violent criminals. More than a million have been lawfully ordered deported by judges in the U.S. but remain in our country regardless. The dismissal by the executive branch of our government of hundreds of thousands of cases of immigration law violations is unprecedented.
It is worth noting some other firsts: Mexico’s crime syndicates and their paramilitary forces have never earned so much money from cross-border smuggling, and it is reported that their proceeds from human smuggling are surpassing those from drug smuggling for the first time. Never before have the Border Patrol’s 19,000 agents been ordered to abandon vast stretches of the border to conduct administrative intake duty. Never have so many immigrants died to take advantage of policies that all but guarantee quick release into the U.S. Never has our government explicitly refused to enforce immigration laws requiring detention and deportation of illegal immigrants on the grounds that those requirements are cruel and inhumane—instead adopting ad hoc policies aimed at providing “safe, orderly, and humane pathways” into the U.S. for illegal border crossers. And never has there been anything like the current conveyor-belt policy to distribute millions of illegals throughout the American interior.
This crisis is not the result of incompetence, but of purposeful policies. What is more, America’s establishment media has largely abdicated its duty to report on the crisis, refusing to acknowledge an event that is having a greater impact than almost any other in the world today. One can only assume that the reason for this is partisan bias: after all, the crisis can easily be traced to an identifiable moment in time—Inauguration Day 2021.
Prior to that day, the Trump administration had brought the southern border largely under control using four key policies.
Diplomatic Big Sticks: The U.S. gained Mexico’s cooperation by threatening ruinous trade tariffs of up to 28 percent on Mexican goods. We gained the cooperation of Central American nations by threatening to freeze U.S. foreign aid. The cooperation of these countries consisted of two things: accepting deported illegals from the U.S. and using their military and police to block incoming immigrants at their own borders.
Remain in Mexico: Border Patrol was required to return apprehended immigrants immediately to Mexico, where they had to wait out the long duration of asylum processing, rather than releasing them to disappear inside the U.S.
Safe Third Country: Immigrants who had passed through designated “safe third countries” (including Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico) on their way to the U.S. without applying for asylum in one of those countries were automatically deported with no chance to claim asylum in the U.S.
Title 42: This pandemic-control health order required rapid deportations to Mexico, without the option to claim asylum, of all immigrants caught illegally crossing the U.S. border.
During the 2020 campaign, candidate Biden promised to undo Trump policies within the first 100 days, to include ending detention and deportation of illegal immigrants. On January 20, 2021, he began to follow through. Four new U.S. policies and a new Mexican law are the chief drivers of the immigration tsunami we see today.
The tariff threat against Mexico was withdrawn and full foreign aid to all Central American nations was restored, freeing these countries to end cooperation with U.S. efforts to stem illegal immigration. This marked the end of the Remain in Mexico policy.
The Title 42 pandemic rapid expulsion policy was waived for most families with children under ten, for all unaccompanied minors, for pregnant women, and for many single adults from nations that would not accept deportees.
Two days after the 2020 election, the Mexican government passed a law prohibiting the detention of families, pregnant women, and unaccompanied minors. It then released thousands of families from 58 Mexican detention centers ten days before President Biden took office.
The Biden administration established an ad hoc Border Patrol turnstile honor system by which Title 42-exempted families and others were released into the U.S. with a promise to report back later; this catch-and-release approach came eventually to incorporate the aforementioned conveyor-belt policy, with Border Patrol delivering illegals to non-governmental organizations that would arrange bus and air travel to cities around the U.S.
To give the false impression of fewer illegal crossings, the Biden administration created an ad hoc system that allowed hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to use a cell phone app called CBP One to schedule “pre-approved” entries at border crossings and U.S. airports.
Those who seek to come to the U.S. illegally are rational actors. They are more willing to pull up stakes and come when they think the effort and expense will pay off. The typical cost for the dangerous journey is $10,000 per person paid to smugglers. Few will take the gamble when the odds are against them. It’s a different matter when the odds move dramatically in favor of success as they did in January 2021.
Toward the end of the Trump administration, Border Patrol used Title 42 to deport nearly 90 percent of apprehended illegals. The Biden administration immediately reduced that number to 60. By 2023, Title 42 deportations were down to 35 percent. And on May 12, 2023, the Biden administration formally ended Title 42, and with it all instant expulsions. U.S. intelligence had predicted that ending Title 42 would lead to between 14,000 and 18,000 crossings a day, and that prediction turned out to be right. As I recently reported, it appears that the Biden administration recently took steps to reduce these numbers—most likely in response to public outrage in an election year—though it remains to be seen how long this will last.
It is too early to gauge the full impact of the ongoing settlement of millions of illegal foreign nationals in the U.S. We know that the initial financial cost is high—$400 billion, by one estimate, to feed, house, clothe, and resettle the illegals who have been allowed to stay. Then there is the burden placed on public school districts that have no choice but to take in millions of new children who often speak no English and whose educations are not commensurate with those of their schoolmates. It is probably not coincidental that hospital systems across the nation have fallen deep into the red since the great mass migration crisis began. And large cities across the nation are looking to Washington for help with unfunded and unexpected fiscal burdens reaching into the tens of billions to care for the hundreds of thousands showing up with hands out.
Expense, of course, is only one part of the equation in terms of impact. Public safety, criminal justice, and national security systems face unprecedented new burdens as the personal histories and criminal backgrounds of most of the millions allowed easy entry are unknown and, often, unknowable. Some percentage will commit crimes and—in addition to the often horrendous effects on the victims of their crimes—increase the load on our already over-burdened courts and prisons. One prays not, but some may also commit acts of terrorism. Last but not least, this great influx will increase joblessness and put immense downward pressure on wages for American workers.
It is not rocket science to figure out how to solve the immigration crisis. Nor is it hard to tell whether a politician is serious when he proposes a solution—one can simply ask whether the proposal will increase or decrease the odds that an aspiring illegal immigrant will decide to make the significant effort and financial sacrifice. For instance, in the ongoing standoff in Texas, placing razor wire at the border as the Texas Governor ordered done will clearly decrease the odds, and removing the razor wire as the Biden administration seeks to do will increase the odds. Similarly, any politician who proposes a solution that begins by granting amnesty to illegals currently in the U.S. is increasing the odds and not serious.
There are two essential steps we must take to begin to solve the border crisis:
Enforce current immigration law, specifically the requirements under the Immigration and Nationality Act to detain and deport illegal entrants.
Restore the threat of trade tariffs on Mexican goods to ensure Mexico’s cooperation with reinstituting the Remain in Mexico policy, forcing asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their asylum claims are processed.
Three additional steps will help to solve the problem:
Withdraw from the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees treaty, which requires the U.S. to meet outdated standards for handling asylum claimants; then institute an asylum law that ends the current catch-and-release system and requires that an asylum claim first be made in a suitable departure or transit country, such as Mexico.
Put diplomatic and financial pressure on Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico to implement their own policies of detention and deportation of foreign nationals who are in those countries illegally.
Close loopholes in U.S. immigration law such as the Flores Settlement Agreement—which circumvents Immigration and Nationality Act requirements for detention and deportation during asylum claims and forces the release of asylum-seeking families within 21 days—and the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, which requires the quick release of immigrant minors if they are from anywhere but Mexico.
Our politicians know these actions are the ones needed. The problem is not a lack of knowledge but a lack of political will. Too many of our elected leaders have selfish reasons to let the border crisis continue, no matter what their constituents demand. Whether they will be able to continue in their inaction is in the hands of the American people.

Blowout Preventer Market Regional Analysis To Expand With Advancements In Oil And Gas Exploration Activities
The demand within the Blowout Preventer Market Regional Analysis is rising on account of advancements in the domain of oil and gas manufacturing. Oilfields are characterised by critical operations and exploration activities. The need for safety, caution, and resilience across the oil and gas industry cannot be understated. Oilfield operators and manager are wary of the dangers and harms of the slightest inconsistency or discrepancy across the field. Hence, the global blowout preventer market is slated to expand as safety and wellbeing of oilfield workers becomes a primary concern.
The humongous utility of crude oil and natural gas across various industries has necessitated viable extraction functions. In order to prevent wastage of these resources, it is important to have a network of blowout preventers across the oil and gas industry. The presence of blowout preventers also helps oil companies in avoiding undue losses due to uncontrolled extraction. Hence, the global market is poised to become a haven of favourable investments in the years to follow. A strict system of checks on oilfield operations, instituted by national governments, has also given a thrust to market growth.
Oil companies voluntarily file for tests and inspection procedures conducted by regional authorities. This helps these companies in gaining thorough insights about their oilfield infrastructure, whilst cutting costs of inspection labour. Since blowout preventers are an important part of the oilfield architecture, their demand has traced an upward trajectory.

Episode 257: Disappearing Glaciers / No Net Neutrality, 1 Year On / Banning Plastic Bags
Monday, June 24th, 2019 at 5:00 pm
Did these doomsday predictions come true?
Park rangers at Glacier National Park had put up signs to let visitors know that the glaciers there would be “Gone by 2020”. But guess what they’re doing with those signs now?
It’s been a year since the net neutrality rules, created by the Obama administration, were removed by Trump’s FCC. Did the doomsday predictions of what would happen come true?
And does banning plastic bags like California (and an al-Qaeda subsidiary…really) really do anything for the environment? How do we get a better bang for the buck?

The glaciers are disappearing! The glaciers are disappearing! It says right here that the glacier si…um, the glacier signs are disappearing? Oh, well that’s not as big a deal. Turns out that in Glacier National Park in Montana they had been putting up signs all around the park saying, “Gone by 2020”, referring to the fears that those glaciers you see would soon melt away because of global warming, or climate change, or whatever this week’s term is.
But the reality is that the predictions were wrong, and in fact those glaciers have been growing in recent years. The Jackson Glacier may have grown as much as 25% or more over the past decade. So quietly, the Park Service has begun taking down the signs of doom, or changing them from saying that they’d be gone by 2020 to the idea that they’d be gone for “future generations”. That’s some serious bet hedging.
And of course, while the media reported on the signs going up, they’ve been silent on them going down. Of course.
The Internet has been growing like crazy in the past year. Fiber was deployed to more new U.S. homes than any year before. Small cell deployment quadrupled, as did the deployment of other related wireless infrastructure. We also saw an increase in average broadband speeds across the country.
More importantly, here’s what didn’t happen. You aren’t being nickel and dimed by your Internet Service Provider for access to email or Social Media or messaging or music. Now, you might be paying 3rd parties like Netflix for access to their services over the Internet, but your ISP isn’t charging extra to even be able to access such services.
And those things were predicted at the end of…net neutrality. The Internet would die, squeezed by eeevil ISPs. Now I don’t know about you, but my eeevil ISP, AT&T, bumped up my speeds a few months ago with no change in rates. This is what comes from competition because, fortunately for me, government hasn’t totally limited my choice in Internet providers. Your mileage may vary, but if this is the way they are exploiting me, they’re doing it wrong.
I’ve got a link in the show notes to an opinion piece that puts into question some of the environmental laws that have been passed recently. Now, up front I want to say that concern for our environment is a good thing. The thing is, we should get the most bang for the buck when doing that.
The writer, Bjorn Lomborg, launches out by noting that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a plan to reduce plastic pollution, which will include a ban on single-use plastics as early as 2021. Lomborg agrees that this is a “laudable” action because of the pollution caused by it as well as how it can kill animals.
Other countries have been doing this as well, more than 20. Even The Shabab, a terrorist group in East Africa that has pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda, has banned plastic bag because they “pose a serious threat to the well-being of humans and animals alike”. OK, as an aside, if you’ve been listening to me for a little while, you know how much I love irony. So to have a terrorist group decry a threat to humans and animals is just…well, we need a new term for that level of self-unawareness.
Anyway, while “laudable”, Lomborg also calls it “showy”. Basically it’s virtue signaling on a global scale, because there is hardly any bang; it’s more of a fizzle. If plastic bags were banned tomorrow, it wouldn’t make much of a difference because they comprise only 0.8 percent of the plastic in the oceans.
Further, where bans have been instituted, the result is…more CO2 emissions.
Moreover, banning plastic bags can have unexpected, inconvenient results. A new study shows California’s ban eliminates 40 million pounds of plastic annually. However, many banned bags would have been reused for trash, so consumption of trash bags went up by 12 million pounds, reducing the benefit. It also increased consumption of paper bags by twice the saved amount of plastic – 83 million pounds. This will lead to much larger emissions of CO?.
The thing is, plastic makes our lives better in so many ways. Should we also ban single use plastic syringes? Single use plastic jugs that keep milk and juice fresher? Lomborg also quotes a study by the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food which shows you have to reuse an organic cotton shopping bag 20,000 times before it will have less environmental damage than a plastic bag. We’re being “showy” instead of tackling underlying issue.
He makes the rather obvious point that the focus needs to be on the countries that are the biggest polluters like China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, and we need to address better waste management in developing countries. Going without disposable plastic entirely would leave us worse off, so we need to tackle the problems without losing all of the benefits.
And finally, about this time last year I reported on an annual study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University which ranked the fiscal solvency of each state. It uses five financial measures that gauge the states’ ability to pay bills, avoid budget deficits, and meet long-term spending needs and cover pension liabilities. Separate from this, others then label these states Republican or Democrat based on their voting record in the past 3 elections and which party controls the state legislature. If the state is not solidly red or blue, it’s purple.
Well, just like last year, the 10 states most fiscally solvent are all Republican, and of the states least fiscally solvent, 6 are solidly Democratic. In fact, of the 25 most-solvent states, all but four are solidly Republican, and of the bottom 25 states, all but five are solidly Democratic. The trend is continuing but the media won’t tell you that.

Upgrade Your Coiled Strap: How an Innovative Embossment Takes Utility Straps to the Next Level
CS16 coiled straps. I can’t tell you how many thousands (maybe more) I specified during my time as a consulting engineer. Straps are used everywhere. They were then, and are now, a go-to solution for drag and uplift loads. I didn’t have to look them up in the catalog — I knew the allowable loads by heart.
Then one day at a jobsite, I saw a contractor installing them and thought, “Wow, that is labor intensive. His arm must be so tired!” Suddenly, I felt a little guilty for all of the straps I had personally specified on my projects. I thought there must be a better way. Fast-forward 10 years, and today I’m an R&D engineer for Simpson Strong-Tie, an industry leader that prides itself on offering products that improve construction, keep costs down and allow for a safer built environment. As fate would have it, straps fall into my area of responsibility. Now, thinking about what could be done to improve a flat, steel strap is part of my job. Specifiers use straps load rated based on a National Design Specification® (NDS®) nail calculation and an American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) steel calculation. How could Simpson Strong-Tie make that better?
Neelima Tapata, one of our talented fastener engineers, spent a lot of time testing different embossment features providinghigher allowable load values for nails when installed in the final feature. Once finalized, the feature accomplished two major goals: higher nail load values and the ability to install nails using most power nailers because it easily fit the nailer’s nosepiece. Contractors would no longer be slowed down by having to change out the tool they were using while framing in order to install a metal connector. This would save installers a lot of time, and, in the construction industry, time is money. This was a breakthrough for Simpson Strong-Tie and the initial steps that allowed us to upgrade our coiled strap. We worked directly with the American Wood Council (AWC) and ICC-ES to seek approval for the innovative embossment. There were many questions, but after we addressedthem all, the feature was approved and is now patent pending.
This was an opportunity to finally upgrade our coiled strap. When we started this project, our goals were to create a strap that would maximize load but also minimize end length, nail quantity and steel thickness while offering ease of installation to the end user. We positioned the innovative embossments in diagonal pairs so the strap could be installed on a 2x piece of lumber. The result was the CSHP high-performance coiled strap. The allowable load for the CSHP18 is 1,540 lb., and for the CSHP20, it’s 1,160 lb. Both provide approximately a 12.5% increase in allowable load over the flat straps of the same gauge and in virtually every application require fewer fasteners.
In addition to the upgrades we made with the embossment, we also added a colored stamp that serves two purposes. The colored marking helps contractors install the strap with the correct face outward, which is important for the embossment feature’s performance.
When installing the CSHP correctly using a power nailer, the nailer’s nosepiece fits within the innovative embossment and the colored dots are visible. The dots also help inspectors more easily identify the strap: orange dots mark the CSHP18, and black mark for CSHP20.
As part of the R&D process, thousands and thousands of nails (of various widths and lengths) were installed using numerous different tools. Contractors who have trialed the product told us, “I wish this product was available now. The install is so easy.” The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. We are excited to share this new product with you and hope you are able to specify it on your next project.

' Nigerian footballers crashed hope
New Post has been published on https://www.blueprint.ng/nigerian-footballers-crashed-hope/
' Nigerian footballers crashed hope
In just four days, Nigeria’s woes in global soccer especially as it concerns cadet representation know no bound. Last Sunday, exactly on February 18, 2018, the country’s Under-17 Women team, Flamingos for the first time failed to qualify for FIFA Youth championship otherwise known as U-17 Women World Cup after they couldn’t survive Cameroonian firepower in a two-legged qualifier game.
On February 22, another shocker descended from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, venue of maiden West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament which will end this weekend and it panned out that Africa’s Women best team, Super Falcons lost to their Ghanaian counterparts in the semi-final.
This same Nigerian senior Women Squad had won virtually every edition of African Women Championship (AWC) (ideally the continental version of Women’s Nation Cup) in the past, including the last edit ion that held in 2016 at Cameroon. It is now disheartening to note that many times African champions have eventually began to struggle at the regional level (West Africa).
In fact, Ghanaian Coach whose side defeated Nigerian girls 5-4 through penalty shoot-out and will host 2018 AWC boasted afterwards; “Nigeria will never defeat Ghana, again.” Were you surprised to hear that? I don’t blame the tactician from the gold coast. I can only fault Administrators at Glasshouse who have refused to make hay while the sun was shining.
After winning AWC in 2016, when Florence Odegbami who later emerged as Africa’s best female coach was in charge of Super Falcons on interim terms, Amaju-Pinnick led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) turned blind eyes on them to the extent that the team had no single activity throughout last year.
In the wake of 2018, only few days to ongoing WAFU event in Cote D’Ivoire, NFF Board engaged new Gaffer (a foreign coach) for the team who led them to attend first ever regional soccer championship for Women. The outcome of unpreparedness, disorganisation and maladministration is what every football Stakeholder has seen. Our darling Falcons has been turned to object of regional stock with no meaningful impact. I know some would say after all, those that are taking part in the tournament are not in the ‘main’ stream of the team. I agree. But don’t also forget that the situation is not entirely different with other countries parading players from their various domestic leagues.
After action ceased in later part of 2017, no female player in any of the Nigeria Women Premier league has kicked football since then. Yet NFF has blatantly assembled some of them to represent supposed Africa’s most populated Nation at WAFU without adequate preparation.
The Flamingos had suffered similar (quick fire approach) fate before they began qualifier campaign ahead of this year’s FIFA Under-17 Women World Cup. The young girls who are supposed to be amateur players, still learning how to kick and hold balls, were assembled within ten days and were meant to face Ethiopia during their first fire of qualifying baptism. They managed to scrap into the next stage of the qualifiers before their Cameroonian opponents pushed them aside and moved on.
Apart from Flamingos and Super Falcons’ team B nemesis; there has been virtually no remarkable move to reposition age-grade soccer system in Nigeria in the past two or three years. Under the watch of current NFF leadership, Nigeria couldn’t qualify for under -17 and 20 Men African championships in the same period, barely two years ago. When things seem to be moving at least on the average, Nigeria won FIFA under-17 World Cup a record five times since 1985. Exploits recorded at those times produced Nigerian footballers who were and are still trail-blazing in parts of the world. And so, the dwindling story never stops. The only expertise anyone expects from glasshouse especially since 2014 is always an emergency approach to football development. At some point last year, the under-15 male team needed to attend one invitational event outside Nigeria, some bunch of coaches who hurriedly got the team together, were immediately gathered.
I only wish or pray that the current coaching arrangement for Flying Eagles (Nigeria U-20 male team) which was announced by the Nation’s football leaders some days ago, won’t end up crashing like their colleagues. As usual, head coach, Paul Aigbogun few hours ago, hastily announced a 28-man list that would feature during the qualifying series for 2019 African U-20 Cup of Nations.
An official press release from NFF’s Spokeman, Ademola Olajire directed all invited players to arrive at the Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja between this Sunday and Monday, with their international passports, birth certificates and training kits.
I’m sure these set of players will be meant to literally train with either ‘single hired or borrowed’ jerseys which should be washed once after each training session ahead of another training period.
Isn’t it a shame that National players and officials in camp will have to scramble for training kits while on national duties when the football federation is meant to be enjoying enough supply from kits sponsors, NIKE? Let there be change of style at Glasshouse
