That's a good headcanon! I think I should warn though that Only Ingo and the Galactic Team people Have/use pokeballs.

(the wardens might use pokeballs, maybe? I would have to check on that/ask someone else to check on that. But the clan leaders at least did not, which is why their eevees all attack at the same time. They're not actually in pokeballs they're just following them around. they presumably though are foxes/cats and could hunt their own food. hopefully away from the traps. )

A large number of pokemon eat odd food like food seasoned with ghost type moves, or souls, or the like as well so its probably just presumed that they can hunt their own food/don't need to be fed/are fed offscreen. Could be a snake thing where they don't need to eat EVERY day.

And oh, duh!! You’re right!! I had a complete brain fart when I typed up that headcanon!! Thank you for the reminder!!

As far as I know, Ingo and the galactic team members are the only people who use pokeballs, just like you said. (Though haha in my fic Onwards He Guides Her, I wrote Melli using a pokeball specifically knowing this…I was newer to writing and didn’t know how I could write Melli running away without putting Skuntank in a pokeball…shameful!!! I absolutely would not have done that now! Just pick the big skunk up!!)

Though you bring up a very interesting thought that I hadn’t really thought about before; they could technically hunt on their own!! That is really interesting, and OHH MAN this would make for a much better scene in one of my later chapters than what I’ve got (originally late chapter 2 but now that I’m breaking them up I have no idea what chapter it will be haha). I will tuck this back in my pocket for later (ÔuÔ)
