i would love to hear about the pulp horror film posters 😈🤲🏽

well i had a whole list of factoids about how horror in the pre-hays code days used to mean anything hard on the palate (like scarface woulda been considered a horror movie back then, but nosferatu and the cabinet of dr. caligari were considered more art films), pulp magazines in the 30s were surrounded by constructivist and art deco design so you literally had shit like these two things in the same vicinity, making the pulp magazine all the more jarring:

and about how one of the most prolific pulp mag cover artists was actually a woman named margaret brundage, who was also active in the suffragette & civil rights movements in chicago. her work would go on to inspire frank frazetta (the guy who the "fantasy painter who hates pants" post is about), and she's notable for injecting subtle dominance into her erotic art of women:
