*putting on my little fae expert hat* As far as I know this "myth" is from Supernatural. Specifically their leprechaun episode. I love seeing how TV and movies impact myth, ugh so good. Looking at you x-files.

There is folklore around salt warding off the fae, preventing them from stealing/spoiling milk/butter/meat/children, but as far as I can tell the creature that is best known for counting compulsions is the vampire. And that is very specifically referenced in Chinese vampire mythos. The fae boys in my au wouldn't have similar compulsions BUT they do like sweets. Especially Ghost, big sweet tooth on that man. So I do think your sugar spilling would keep them around.
