yet another free ramble ask because i'm in "this thing gives dopamine, need more dopamine from thing" mode!
That is so valid and I’m so happy my boi is giving you that good dopamine. Let’s roll with something more lighthearted this time!
Gordon Deadman is a goof who loves a small number of people very strongly, he’d do anything for his loved ones and wants nothing more than them safe and happy.
He met Barney back when he first started working at Black Mesa, it was one of his first days and he was supposed to be working with Kleiner in his office but Kleiner locked himself out of his office again. Kleiner sent him to go fetch Barney so they could send him into the vents to unlock the door for them.
And to be fair, Gordon did find him, but he’s also a gay disaster that took one look at Mr. Calhoun and went “Yeah no I’m not gonna be able to talk to that man coherently even if i could talk today” and turned his ass around to go crawl through the vents himself.
He got lost and Kleiner had to go find Barney to go rescue him. At that moment Gordon decided he was never ever going to speak aloud when Barney was around even on verbal days out of sheer embarrassment. He used ASL exclusively around Barney in part because Barney didn’t know ASL and Gordon could save face that way.
This backfired tremendously when Barney, the considerate bastard, learned ASL so he could hold conversations with Gordon. He finally found out Gordon wasn’t physically mute during a hangout/drinking/movie night where Barney was bitching about some truly awful movie they were watching and Gordon, laughing his ass off, said some dumb pun out loud. Barney didn’t even register that Gordon spoke until the next day.
Even after infection Gordon, who’s much more talkative, still likes to hold quiet conversations with Barney in ASL. Often late at night right before they fall asleep after a night of movies and alcohol and conspiracy theories.
Gordon is, at all times, kind of starved for affection and will happily sink into any given to him by friends and family. Eli and Kleiner ruffle his hair and hug him, him and Barney will practically hang off of eachother and share chairs, he’ll let Alyx sit on his shoulders or use his lap as a footrest. After infection he has trouble sleeping alone and will typically spend the night curled up with some member of his ragtag family. (Gordon aren’t you a little old to be crawling into your parent’s bed lmao?)
Kleiner and Eli are his adoptive dads lmao, he’ll call them both dad sometimes (G: “Hey dad?” Kleiner: “Yes?” G: “Not you, other dad” Eli: “Oh god what did you do this time?”) Eli being ‘annoyed’ at his antics is a running joke in the family. Barney is his best friend of course, he has lots of friends in security but Barney was the first (and cutest lol). He considers Alyx his little sister, even after missing 20 years of her life he loves her the same and will threaten anyone who looks at her the wrong way. (He is extremely weirded out by anyone insinuating they should be a thing or that she might have a crush on him. That’s his baby sister you’re talking about, also he mostly prefers men so even if she wasn’t it’s not happening lmao)
Gordon has a lot of love to give and not many people to give it to. On that note, he’s poly! He could be in a monogamous relationship but would absolutely adore being in a poly one. He’d be happiest with two or three or more boyfriends to hug and kiss and protect, have big cuddle piles, group dates or smaller ones. He prefers ones where everyone is dating eachother but that doesn’t always work out, which is fine! He just wants all his loved ones happy.
