still on my shit but scream 5 giving dewey alone amongst the remaining original cast members a true storyline as opposed to essentially being a plot device like sidney and gale, tunneling towards what you know from the moment you see him is his inevitable death... dewey has almost died in every previous movie except number 4, and after the high of that movie (finally married gale, finally became sheriff, finally gained respect in every way that mattered), he's fallen back to square one and has nothing left to lose except himself... and he still can't walk away when sam and tara need his help. the drama and panache of his death scene are unmatched amongst the rest of what is already a more gory and realistic movie than the previous installments, "it's been an honor"...

#favorite characters getting murdered in meaningfully brutal ways etc etc #I also think it's funny the movies really did lag behind courtney and david arquette's irl relationship by one #met on the first one together by the second married by the third divorced by the fourth #while gale and dewey didn't get engaged till the end of 3; married in 4 and then divorced in 5 #evidently courtney and david are still very close so gale's ''you murdered my best friend'' was so 🥺🥺🥺 #I mean the movie on the whole was so very good. I like sam being billy's kid and I love that the actor got to cameo in her hallucinations #the killers were easy to spot (admittedly I didn't call ritchie but only bc I thought he was too obvious) but tbf they had a lot going on #introducing a new cast while still giving the ogs enough screen time #looooooved randy's niece and nephew both surviving it really was very classic #I was worried that it wouldn't know what it was because scream has always been so dependent on a meta deconstruction #of the rules of the genre #but it did and it did a great job of it
