❝ I — I'm sorry...! ❞ It's never Allister's intention to scare someone he isn't certain will be able to laugh it off later. Especially not younger kids. But his mask has that effect on people, and while it can give him an unexpected edge in Pokémon battles, its effects are a little less desirable outside of the stadium...

But, as guilty as he feels for startling this child...he can't take the mask off. The mere thought causes him to freeze up.

❝ I promise, I didn't mean to... ❞ He's as delicate as he can possibly be in approaching the girl, but he'll back off at the first sign of distress. ❝ Th-this is just a mask. I just...I-I can't stand the idea of people looking at me, so I have to wear it to go out. ❞

WHAT A HAUNTING SIGHT; hollowed eyes and mouth that appeared as a darkness with an unknown depth, Ari could not use what she knows to tell if this stranger could be considered a ' KIND ' one or not — because, despite her willingness to approach many, there were a few attributes a stranger could have that made the little girl reluctant to do so. 

And so the child cowered and shied away with a fearful look in her eye, her tiny hands pulled close to her chest and small frame slightly curled to make her reluctance ever - more prominent. So SCARY … 

" nnn … no thank you, no thank you! "

Which is what little Ari thought of him until he spoke. 

It was surprising to hear such kind words come from someone who looked this way — apologetic and SWEET, a tone that made Ari’s fear slowly fade, and slowly did her actions and expression change with it. Though not entirely so, her posture straightened a bit, and that innocent emerald gaze of hers softened. Just a MASK … ? Oh, that is not what little Ari thought; she was terribly afraid that the boy had been cursed with a natural spooky face. This was a lesson, wasn't it? One among many attempted to be ingrained in childhood and to be remembered for the rest of life — but how did it go again? 

Oh, yes. ' You shouldn't judge a book by its cover '. 

Was that what Ari was doing right now? Thinking the boy was scary without actually knowing if he is or isn't … based entirely on his COVER. Oh, that wasn't very nice at all. If someone had treated Ari the same because they thought she looked a little spooky, it might have brought a terrible sort of hurt to her heart.

Granted, the child did not wear the same hollowed eyes and mouth that the other used as a comforting veil, but such things didn’t feel like they mattered much to little Ari anymore. 

" i … it's just mmm … mister's mask … ? " began Ari. As the boy stepped closer, Ari did not shy away — the fear was nearly nonexistent by now. " www … why does mister wear a sp … spoo … a spooky mask, please? " 

" I'm vvv … very, very sorry if I hurt mister's f — feelings … I … I didn't mean to hurt them, nnn … no, thank you. " 

" … but mmm … mi … mister's mask is very, very scary. "
