New Carry Gun?
Shoulder surgery recovery has forced me to reevaluate several things, including my carry gun. My husband read me this quote the other day by Epictetus and it hit home.

hey, so I'm curious. how do you carry your gun around with you every day? 'cause like, as a t girly who lives in texas, I should PROBABLY carry a gun, but I don't even know how I'd carry one around in public without it being in the way or a way that I'd be constantly worried about the thing
I wear my pistol in an inside-the-waistband appendix holster from PHLSTER on one of their Enigma belts.

On concealed carry.
For starters, if you wish to carry a loaded gun of any kind in a concealed manner in Washington State, including on your person or in your vehicle, you will need a Concealed Pistol License (CPL). When you apply for a CPL they will do a background check which has the same disqualifying factors as the background background check you submit to when purchasing a firearm. The only additional item is that you must submit your fingerprints which is done by appointment, usually at a courthouse.
You must apply for a CPL in the county where you live.
One of our members who lives in King County reported that they could only get a fingerprinting appointment three months in advance. You will need to bring multiple forms of legal ID and about $60 cash for the fee. After the appointment and your background check clears, it will take a month at minimum to receive your physical CPL in the mail.
There is nothing wrong with acquiring a CPL as a new shooter, since it takes some time to get one, HOWEVER it is NOT recommended that you concealed carry if you are a new or unskilled shooter.
If you carry a concealed firearm, you must:
Commit to DEESCALATE, ESCAPE, or NON-LETHALLY RESOLVE potentially dangerous situations.
Always carry your CPL. Some of our members who use the PHLSTER sport belt carry their CPL in a pocket of the belt. This way you have your CPL physically attached to the holster.
Never carry a firearm if you do not also have a tourniquet and an Individual First Aid Kit on your person.
Never carry a lethal weapon if you are not also carrying a nonlethal weapon such as pepper spray.
Never carry a firearm, even concealed, into areas where it is illegal to do so, such as on school property.
Always follow weapons laws. You do not want to catch a weapons charge.
Always follow proper gun safety, and never carry or operate a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This protects yourself and others.
Use a good-quality kydex holster that covers the trigger guard, such as those made by PHLSTER. Holsters are a piece of safety equipment and there is no excuse for not using one that fulfills that role. Holsters made of soft materials such as nylon do not sufficiently protect the trigger from being depressed while a gun is holstered.
Safely store your gun. Whenever you are not carrying it, it should be in a gun safe. Your car does not constitute a gun safe.
BE COMPETENT WITH THE WEAPON YOU ARE CARRYING...
At minimum be able to get all shots on an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper at 10 yards.
