Worked up the courage the other day to ask my mom about Columbia in the 1960s (she moved to Libya when she was 5ish), and all she could give me was:

Her brother had a friend with a monkey that got up to no good

The entire layout of her house

A faint memory (from 1964ish) of people on top of the house at night and her siblings all huddling scared

#apparently her siblings told her nothing #my grandmother lived through most of la violencia before she had my mom #grandmother born 1921 #my mind meanwhile screaming as she just goes on about furniture #wish i knew what Columbia Venezuela Libya Indonesia (and America 70-90s) did to my mom and thus to my brother and i #she just glossed over the fact that her father's employer hired a guard for her house
