The days just seemed to run into each other now. Ever since the death of the Hyrulean queen, things were still, even in the neighboring nation of the Gerudo. Their chieftain had taken the loss poorly, though this surprised only those who did not know her. The queen had been one of her dearest friends and confidants, rivaled only by her wife and the head of the Gerudo guard. She'd stayed in Hyrule for a full month of morning, as well as attending as best she could to her goddaughter before she was invariably dragged back by her political obligations. Stanna was an excellent stateswoman, especially given her background, but she could never replace the chieftain in the eyes of the people.
The Sheikah researchers who used to come through the bazaar, stopping by the city to compare notes with Gerudo Town's historians had slowed to a trickle of independent historians and scientists, unbothered by the King's sudden cut to funding to better rally an army. Urbosa and Roahm had never seen eye-to-eye, and though she believed it a foolish decision, she could understand where the fear came from that spurred it. To lose one's queen and wife... Well, she probably wouldn't be making entirely rational decisions at this point either.
She still believed in the project's role in the assault against Calamity Ganon, so she often made a point to personally escort travelers to wherever they were stationed. The desert was a dangerous place at the best of times, and with the Queen's death, many more monsters had begun to leak from the cracks of eternity.
On one such outing, far North to the old temple ruins, Urbosa saw movement. She drew her sword, prompting the other soldiers to do the same - the two sheikah researchers, already a bit off-put by their defender's warlike demeanor, found themselves hanging back.
"What is it?" "I'm not sure from here... Smaller than a bokoblin, but there's only the one..." "It could be a trap." "If monsters have become smart enough to set traps, I'll eat my y'eli."
They approached in formation, only braking when Urbosa realized that it wasn't a monster, nor hostile soldier. About ten yards off, it looked to be a baby, but what Gerudo woman would abandon a baby? Her eyes scanned the horizon for any other being, but it was only the party and the howling winds to accompany them.
"Hey!" She yelled above the wind, sheathing her scimitar to run over. "What the hell are you doing out here!"
