#the ratpack's efforts to thrust leadership upon matty

Note
with my aluminum foil hat on, i think matty is extremely used to being the youngest (aside from his extremely overachieving family, we know he graduated high school in 3 years!!!) but also being expected to lead (the A, the constant references to matty's defensive game) and i think the only way he learned to reconcile both aspects was to be the person that they could laugh at so that they could also laugh with him! my deranged matty reading is that leadership is something that other people put on him but that he does with grace and ease because it's been something he's been doing his whole life and he's good at it! but just because he's good at it doesn't mean he wants it! maybe he wouldn't have chosen to lead if there wasn't so much pressure on him (hope of the franchise build, nevermind rebuild). matty i think leans very hard into being the youngest (er, younger side) in order to be a leader, which is why shaniers is so compelling and why shane wright is the absolute most perfect foil to have ever existed for matty (and vice versa) because shane leans into appearing older than he is in order to be a leader!!! i think a big part of that is because obviously OHL exceptional status, teenagers are BRUTAL and i cant help but i think its a lord of the flies type situation where any weakness (like acting your age, SHANE) will be preyed upon. unlike matty, i think shane WANTS to be a leader. and that hes always shown himself to be a better leader than everyone else on his team even at a young age which is why he was the captain etc etc. do i think he's a natural leader? no but he is a great one and he wants to be one so he should be one. should he be the leader versus someone who is a natural leader and a great one but doesn't want to be one? hmm thats up to the kraken's front office. this is getting real long now so i just wanted to say shaniers makes me insane because its like dealing with the inherent paradox of falling in love with the person you wanted to be. GOOD NIGHT sorry
ohhhhhhh this is good stuff. i think your shane take is spot-on and i love the idea of falling in love with the person you wanted to be... but also the person you kind of hate, and experiencing some self-loathing around being weak enough and boring enough to fall for the affable confident funny guy that everybody likes (even though you want to be that guy.)
