I’m on my Zero Sanson hyperfixation again and I’m wondering what do you think Zero did during their journey at the end of Rouge?
First of all, I think Rouge was largely symbolic so it's kind of a difficult question. But I think that they were part of Napoleon's army for a short period but ran away, not because of any moral stuff, they just didn't like military life and deserted. They actually did try to share bread with everyone and got jumped so they had this sad moment of realization that Marie and Charles are no longer their caretakers and that they need to, in fact, watch out.
I also think they went to America later and settled there. They liked the atmosphere and fit right in (carried a gun everywhere and believed in freedom above all). Marie visited them a few times. Zero never returned to France, not even for a visit. They posed as a woman in the US (which means they wore men's fashion but used she/her for convenience.) Also I believe they've been born a girl and later reconnected with that, though in a very gender non conforming way. They would have a life similar to Marie, but with less murder and sex, since they wouldn't be interested as much. Marie's aromantic and her kid is asexual.
