This card is usually subtitled as “Memory”, and it’s one of my favourites. Nostalgia covers it too, but the term has a sort of dismissive ring to it so I avoid it if I can.
The fact that we perceive time as we do - a frond of futures pulled through a needle-eye present into an ever-accumulating stack of past - means that memory is a pretty integral feature of what it is to be conscious. The past is largely certain, solid, and all other time periods pale in comparison to its bulk. As a result it can be an endless source of fascination or a bit of a mire to get stuck in.
I don’t think I have a particularly strong memory, but I do feel like I have a strong emotional attachment to the past, which is hardly uncommon. Perhaps by virtue of the limitations of memory, the past often holds an emotional splendour that is hard to dismiss - but its weight can warp present and future like a black hole.
