I definitely agree with "fiction affects reality" in the sense it can introduce new ideas and concepts to an audience that never considered or heard of them. What I take issue from puritans drawing the conclusion of "oh so this means someone reading an incest fic will make them want to kiss their sister" is that they only ever think about how it can make someone do bad things but never positive things. In fact, if they think about how fiction can motivate someone to do good things, their argument would fall apart quickly when they realize how often this isn't the case in reality. There's so much popular fiction out there you can find radical, far-left themes inside of so if fiction really was this powerful mind control device that puritans act like it is, all the normies who watched stuff like Gundam or Squid Game or Chicken Run or Hunger Games would have become radicalized anti-war vegan anti-capitalists but they didn't. While there are people out there where that absolutely was the case, that was entirely on those peoples' own ability to see those themes and agree with them. You can also find bigots in fandoms for media with positively portrayed women, queer, and BIPOC characters. I could drag a raging homophobe into a movie theatre to see every action movie with a positively gay character in there, he's still going to walk out as a homophobe. The reality is, fiction can never make you learn something you refuse to learn.
...and people are absolutely not looking at ship art, reading AO3 smut, or playing morally bankrupt eroges with the intention to learn something, nor expect that these things were made with the purpose to educate.
Exactly!! Such a good point about how they only expect fiction to affect things on a 1:1 level if it's something negative.
I'm sure it's been said before but overall positive and light shows like My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic or Steven Universe have so many good messages that are delivered in an appropriate way for even kids to understand and yet their fandoms are notorious for being full of hate and arguing. If a show was all about the power of friendship and fiction affects reality so severely, surely their fandoms would be the happiest places on earth?? No? Maybe because that's not how things work...
Hopefully one days antis will understand. If they even want to at this point.

It kind of sucks that being pro-fiction has been reduced to just "person who beats it to lolicon and ships incest" because, well, besides the fact that's a weird uncomfortable thing to assume about people, being pro-fiction is about so much more than supporting the freedom to write or read that kind of thing in fiction.
It's about supporting BDSM in fiction, "cringe" queer art/fic, "cringe" stories, badly written fanfic, rare pairs, ships that are unpopular, fanfiction that ignores canon, people being able to post their stories online without being bullied, being able to be in fandom without being bullied over everything I listed above and more, not to mention basic pro-fiction beliefs (like knowing you can read something without it corrupting you) and being against anti-fiction outside of fandom too (fuck book bans).
I don't know; a lot of pro-fiction people just want fandom to be a nice place and for people to realise that you can read something bad in fiction critically, and suggesting otherwise feels kind of ignorant.

not to be radical or whatever, but i think that maybe calling women and queer people “pedophiles” for fanfiction is actually not the activism you think it is

Made myself mad so here's a reminder: thought crime isn't real.
You are not comparable to real life abusers if you enjoy dark fiction or "problematic" relationships. You are not committing a crime by enjoying age gaps and underagexadult ships. You are not hurting a single soul by doing whatever you want with fictional characters.
They are not real. They are cut-out dolls and some people prefer to burn their toys. You're okay.

Some anti-shippers really act like proship means "dangerous offending paraphile who is deeply perverted and can't be good in any way and should be kept away from society" instead of just like "person who doesn't give a flying fuck about what other people ship" and it's really uncomfortable to witness.

If Jules could feel her father's touch again or so help her, she would find a way. She's clever like that.
Before the moment his golden curse took over her, the very last thing she felt was his smooth metallic hand graze against her skin. It wasn't cold to her suprise, but it was warm and comforting. As he tried to be for her that very day, she found out his newfound curse.
For Midas, that day was an utter nightmare. One that cost him to give up his everything he as a deity to be just a man cursed forever only to walk the same earth as Jules... with a catch; he can not go near his kin. A rule he easily broke for them to create the storm suit, an excuse for them to be together again 💛- 🔧✨️

I love the argument that "well if someone sees this thing in fiction they're gonna think it's ok irl!"
Like that to me is SUCH a self-report... Just because your morals are easily swayed by fictional content doesn't mean others are

Me: There's a different between sexualizing real minors and sexualizing fictional "minors." One of them harms real children and the other is completely harmless, albeit weird
Antis: There is no difference between real and fictional minors. It's all bad because it's gross and I don't like it. Kys pedo

Sometimes I wonder if being proship really is the correct idea so I sit down and think it all over again. I try to think of both sides as fairly as I can to see if, maybe, I'd change my mind
Every. Single. Time. I have come to the conclusion that not only is being proship the correct idea but that being an anti just seems illogical. In every stretch of the imagination, every time I think about the reasons they have given for what they are fighting for, the answer is "harassing people isn't the answer" or "even if you aren't harassing people then you still aren't going to get the outcome you supposedly want"
Protecting children? Stopping people from shipping things won't protect them. Stopping people from stumbling upon triggering material? Stopping people from shipping things won't prevent that
Like even if there are antis who truly want to do good (far and few between, we know that a majority of them are just pro-censorship) then being an anti-shipper isn't going to get them to their goal. They need to do, like... actual education. Not call out posts on why people are Icky Bad who do Icky Bad Things but teach minors how to see the warning signs of grooming situations and what to do to get out of situations they are already in or teach people how to use the tools given to them so they can block out the things that are legitimately triggering and harmful to them. You educate, not censor
But again, most antis don't actually care about helping anyone but themselves and I could never, ever be that again
So staying proship I will be :3

Antis say "what would your coworkers/parents/etc say if you told them you're proship" all the time.
Well I just had to explain the whole anti vs proship to my step-mom and she goes "Well that's stupid. I'm pro do whatever the fuck you want as long as it doesn't involve real people"
This is how "normal" people think. "Normal" isn't judging random people for what they do in fiction. "Normal" isn't demanding other people censor themselves for your comfort.
