Respect and Protect. Petroglyphs are fragile cultural resource that is an extremely important part Native American identity. They are a tie to ancestors, the land, the past, and part of the culture’s future. Once damaged they can never be repaired nor replaced. Please help preserve cultural landscape for future generations by following a few guidelines. • Look but Do not touch! Even a small amount of the oils from our hands can darken petroglyphs, making them impossible to see....and don’t walk on them! The oils are even worse on pictographs. • But it’s on public land: do a little research and find out if your presence is welcome. Sometimes sites are still actively used for cultural education & ceremony. • Speak up if you see someone defacing or desecrating sacred sites or individual petroglyphs. Call BLM, National Park, National Forest, or local authorities. • And last, always encourage and teach good practices. (at Sierra Nevada) https://www.instagram.com/p/COMMtMNhpwn/?igshid=170x50idhrytv

We all have different preferences, opinions, and styles. The high desert is definitely an acquired taste for some people. It’s exposed, dry, and windy. But without areas like these the mountains wouldn’t look a big and the views wouldn’t be as epic. (at U.S. Highway 395) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAVjg29h1PN/?igshid=170lhh6hu80kb

Mount Whitney is usually just a jagged silhouette glimpsed from the highway as people hurry to other destinations. Sometimes folks take a moment to absorb the beauty of the Eastern Sierra and snap a photo of Mt Whitney while camping at Alabama Hills. But for those who submit, peak bag, or slowly amble up the mountain, a whole new world presents itself. Who knew the back side of those jagged peaks would reveal gently sloping talus fields, sparkling emerald jewels, and endless majestic views. Mt Whitney is so much more that just a silhouette or a peak to check off a list. For many it’s the first step towards a healthy new addiction and a gateway to so many more adventures. ••• Mount Whitney, Lone Pine, Ca P.S. half of the people I hear pointing out Mt Whitney are actually pointing to Lone Pine peak. #mtwhitney #mountwhitney #adventurebeckons #395north #easterncalifornia #sierranevada (at Mount Whitney) https://www.instagram.com/p/CADoa-8B8Hk/?igshid=1qfu785l68kqv

I LOVE THESE SOLAR PANELS because they represent a small taste of the future. How soon do you think the average american will be exploring and camping with new or used electric truck or suv? And will you be an early adopter? Ever since I made the camper electrically independent from the truck using solar panels, I’ve been semi-obsessed with the possibilities. This spawned many campfire conversations with friends with various outdoor interests and budgets. Some are futurists that discuss all of the fantastic possibilities and others are naysayers that bring up infrastructure, politics, cost, limited range, and volumes of adoption to support growth. I’m personally excited for the possibility of greener camping and roadtrip vehicles and would consider being an early adopter the moment a affordable option is available. (And don’t start on EV economics) Unfortunately there is one thing that makes me just a little hesitant. I am the worst when it comes to randomly wandering and changing plans mid trip...or having no plan at all which is pretty much my MO. This is almost a fatal flaw for me. A 30 minuite super charge isn’t really a big deal, but actually planning my trip around chargers could be. Maybe the solution is extended range hybrids? Or a Honda generator in the back? Expanding awning of solar panels for our California sunshine? How soon do you think we will be exploring in electric vehicles? And would you make the switch? #Thefutureiscoming #overlandexpo #electrictruck #tesla #electricfuture #fourwheeleradventureexpo (at Lake Isabella, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9cfk_Kh4d9/?igshid=1p8x87xfx24ou

Saying Lemmy is a gift would be a horrible understatement. By now you have probably seen the good natured pup I’ve been taking care of for a few months. He has become a loveable subject of my stories and some of you have even recognized him while hiking or running errands. He is insta famous! But Lemmy has been more than just an adventure buddy. He has been a source of comfort, companionship, love and stability in my chaotic life. Someone to put ahead of myself and influence good decisions while on the road. Although our pairing happened thru unfortunate circumstances, Lemmy was perfect timing for me in so many ways. I owe Lemmy (and his owner Goose) a big hug and thank you for this. P.S. Lemmy was a rescue. Don’t buy, help one of these neglected souls. #savearescue #animalrescue #rescuedog #rescuepit #pitmix #lemmy #adventurebeckons #lemmy (at Kern River Brewing Company) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9VXp3ChF3T/?igshid=tevsxuwtp5tf

The longing for my next trip starts to build before I get back home. But then procrastination sets in and I completely avoid the planning part. It’s sort of weird, but something about not knowing my destination excites me. Or maybe I’m just spoiled by having a home on wheels and being ok wherever I end up..... I’m just waiting for a swaybar and a toilet 😬. I’m not suggesting you cozy up to every naked old dude you come across.....BUT.... I ran into this dude again and it reminded me to drop a bit of advise on the IG community. BE social next time you’re sitting in a hot spring and a crusty naked old character plops down next to you. That person loves the same things you do and probably has amazing local knowledge. Not to mention after a free Sierra Nevada or two, will bestow upon you the best tales of years gone by. #retirementgoals 🤙 https://www.instagram.com/p/B85BKgvhtm9/?igshid=chz1nxjhzvry

Blue skies are kind of boring. I’ll usually take dramatic dark and ominous skies over a flat sheet of blue any day..... unless it’s a swimming hole kind of day. Of course👌. This was a good day in the desert. I needed a bit of a reset with old familiar faces and a bit of wide open wilderness. After some hard knocks last year I gave myself some time to ponder what is important in my life. So, what is important to me? Like most people I would always say “friends and family”, but honestly I was always distracted and never acted on it 100%. My concept of stability or my selfishness always go in the way. In 2020 I’m doing my best to end some of my crappy behavior because we only have so much time on this earth, and I’m not going to spend it being a half-ass friend or family member. ••• Mojave Road #deserttherapy #easterncalifornia #395north #adventurebeckons #2020 (at Old Mojave Road) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7AAJU6BI8X/?igshid=ei8cp7x7v9r8

The end of the year snuck up on me fast. 2019 flew by in the blink of an eye and has been one of the most challenging and memorable years of my life. That’s all I have to say for now.
