53 Hyde/Jackie !

Prompt: “Who crawls through someone’s window at 4 am to go for ice cream?” JH

Bang! Crash! “Ouch!” 

Hyde’s eyes snapped open. He grabbed the baseball bat he kept under the bed (a tip he picked up from Red) and rushed out of the bedroom. He padded quietly down the stairs. He didn’t want the intruder to get scared and run away before he could catch them. 

He heard giggling coming from the dining room—very familiar giggling.

Red and Kitty were away on a month-long vacation in Florida, visiting with Bob, taking a cruise, and spending time in Disney World with Donna, Eric, and the kid. Hyde had agreed to stay at their house to keep an eye on things.

Hyde put the bat down and flipped on the light in the dining room.

There he saw his wife, giggling herself silly, lying on the floor next to the chair she’d knocked over.

“Did you climb through the window?!” Hyde asked.

“Oh, Steven!” Jackie said through her giggles. “Steven!” She got up from the floor and flung herself into Hyde’s arms.

He hugged her, and her giggles finally started subsiding. 

“I climbed through the window,” Jackie said, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes. 

“I can see that,” Hyde replied, “but why?”

”Well, I woke up, and I was lonely because you were here. Then, I craved ice cream.”

“And?” 

“So I decided to come over here, but everything except the dining room window was locked, so I decided to climb in.”

“So that we could get ice cream?” 

“Yes.”

Hyde was in disbelief, “Who crawls through someone’s window at 4 am to go for ice cream?”

Jackie looked at him with her big puppy dog eyes, “Me.” 

“Sweetheart, I love you, but nowhere is open for ice cream right now.” 

Jackie smiled at him, “I know.”

“If you know, why did you bother climbing through the window?” Hyde was confused.

“Well, maybe it wasn’t just ice cream I was craving.” She bit her lip seductively.

“Oh yeah?” Hyde raised his eyebrows. 

“Yeah,” Jackie confirms.

“Okay, let’s go,” Hyde grabbed Jackie’s hand, closed the window, and then picked up the chair with the other. Then, they ran up the stairs and into the guest bedroom.

“Can we go out for ice cream tomorrow?” Jackie asked as Hyde kissed down her neck.

“Yes, dear,” Hyde replied between kisses.

“Good. Now that I know that, I can focus on you.” Jackie said, turning her attention toward her husband’s affections.

NEW CHAPTER OF THAT ‘70S SHOW FANFICTION

Title: Strangers in the Night Chapter 19

Chapter Summary: Red and Jackie have dinner together and discuss his sleeping arrangement and budding relationship with Kitty.

Story Summary: After suffering the loss of each their spouses, neighbors Red Forman and Kitty Halpert come up with a sleeping arrangement so that neither one of them have to face a lonely night in their empty houses again.The arrangement causes quite a buzz in their small town as well as within their families.

Red’s daughter Jackie claims she’s never seen him happier. However, Kitty’s son, Eric who is going through his own marital troubles, does not like or trust Red because of Red’s darker past. And though Red gets the approval of Eric’s son, as well as Eric’s best friend and Kitty’s adopted son Steven Hyde, Eric’s dislike for Red does anything but lessen.

Still Red and Kitty continue to spend their nights-and their days-together, and as they learn more about each other their bond grows stronger. Could an unconventional sleep arrangement lead the way to a second chance at love?

Alternate Universe, give it a shot, but please be kind!

Most people would leave a bucket of dead, offensive, and foul-smelling fish they found in an empty parking lot right where it was. I, on the other hand, never missed an opportunity to capitalize on ruining someone's day. (The Renewal: Through the Eyes of Steven Hyde, 2014)

Comments: Fun fact, with the exception of my one-shot/drabble series and my very first T7S fic, this actually covers all of my T7S fics. I also included the dates these were published because these ten fics cover ten years of fic-writing for me (I'm a steady, but not prolific writer). I don't really detect any patterns, and I think that is partially due to how I've changed as a writer these last ten years and also because I love to experiment with different hook styles (dialogue, character building, action, etc.).

Comments: From studying these opening lines, I see that I often put some level of tension into them, however subtle. I write opening lines to build the opening paragraph from, so they tend to convey a sense of place, mood, and/or character.
