The first time I heard of salvia was in 2017 when I watched a video by Tana Paul where she spoke about her experience on smoking salvia for the first time.
If you dont want to watch the video, here is a detailed summary:
Tana and her friend decided it would be fun to try Salvia (as, at the time, everyone was into it,) so they left an acquaintance’ house. At note to the others who had tried it first, she saw that no one seemed to have any huge effect on them, but instead was acting more like they were smoking marijuana instead. “So, I get the lighter and I hold it to the bong and I take a hit, I blow it out. I feel completely fine. So I pass it on to the next person and i’m just sitting there like, ‘this is nothing! I feel nothing; like, this is so dope, you don’t feel high at all, like, not even like weed high, like, I feel nothing.’” In this moment, she asks her friend if she should take another hit, which gains a “no, you shouldn’t take a second hit, you’re never supposed to take a second hit,” in response; but, instead of listening, Tana decides to go for another hit. In response to the second hit, she ends up feeling like she doesn’t have any sense of things like distance or time, hallucinates being stuck in a forest, and then passes out because of it.
