It’s exactly what anon said, she said that she was ready to die for his sins whilst he presumably was talking ab a future together but where was this defence? By saying that she was the happiest she had ever been? That’s not a defence of Matty, but of herself. Same goes for when she was talking ab her friends making requests for surprise songs and she didn’t even mention Matty when she sang his request, she called him a “cool person”.

It’s not that hard to imagine that it was never as serious as she says in her album and that she decided to reframe the whole thing bc, once again she needed a villain.

Thank you so so much for your reply, sometimes I feel like I was going insane by saying that what she said on her album is not necessarily 100% true.

I was talking about this with some swifties friends and their response was always “she doesn’t lie, and you can see that by the fact that her ex bfs never said anything contradicting what she said in her albums” which is such a naive response? Like I told them that these men don’t say anything because they simply don’t want to get more hate/want to preserve their peace/just dgaf about her (I’m not excusing her ex bfs because maybe they were shitty af, but I also consider the fact that if she’s always blaming others for everything, maybe she’s the actual problem in all her relationships).

I’m def protecting of Matty, but this simply stems from the fact that in this situation his only “crime” was not being in love and honestly, after 1 month (or I guess 2 if we considered that they were talking before he went to Nashville) it’s not that hard to imagine that he wasn’t.

idk sorry for word-vomiting all of this, I just want everyone to stop pushing their narratives and consider that there lots of factors at play than what she said

what baffles me is if she wanted her relationship with matty to work so badly and she was so in love why did she not defend him when he was getting all that hate? she didn’t even have to be specific she could have just been like “hey guys stfu about my life!” like she has a huge platform. or she could’ve had her pr like put out something. imagine everyone in the world hating you and this person who supposedly loves you and has the power to stop it at least a little wont do it bc their career and fans mean more to them. its sad and i feel really bad for him.

Maybe it’s stupid of me to say all of this, but I really need to get this off my chest.

I hate how this album frames Matty a manipulator and liar when originally the version that her pr gave last summer was that over bc she wasn’t interested anymore in anymore. I will never know Matty personally and the truth of what happened between them will forever stay between them and their loved ones (as we all know there are always 3 versions of a story: 2 being the ones of the 2 sides involved and the third being the actual truth), but I hate how nobody, not her fans, nor the shippers, considered this. Why is nobody thinking that maybe he wanted to get out because the was the pressuring him into something he wasn’t ready for or didn’t want to have? Why did nobody consider that maybe he never even remotely thought about a future with her and she created that fantasy in her head because she connected the dots wrongly? I’m not excusing him, because maybe he was an actual asshole to her, but I just find unfair not to consider his point of view. I guess the short version of this is that I believe he had his reasons to get out and they weren’t as simple as “he ghosted her because of her fans”.

This is not directed at you, it’s more a thought that that kinda simmered because of what I’ve been reading here and on twitter. We’ll most likely never know what Matty thinks because I think he will definitely not devote an entire album to her (maybe some throwaway comment), I just want people to stop setting him up with fake scenarios and swifties to realise that their beloved pop star often changes the narrative

i agree 100% with everything you’ve said. sadly it’s a popularity contest.

matty will NEVER be in the same league as taylor and her celebrity and her almost cult-like following. they don’t care about his version and her version and the truth, they only care about made versions that make her look absolutely saintly and innocent and the other party guilty of everything.
