Just thinking about Thorn teasing Murtagh about Nasuada.

Murtagh gets a chance to see Nasuada in action, fighting or verbally handling the nobles. Thorn… he’s connected to Murtagh, he knows Murtagh is impressed. The two humans part ways for the day and as Murtagh is watching her go, Thorn moves his head down to Murtagh’s level and smiles.

First it’s the amused smirky smile, then it goes wider, then it goes to toothy wolfish smile.

Murtagh gets flustered and a bit irritated. He reminds Thorn to mind his manners about that topic. (Thorn is respectful, but he pushes a little just to tease his Rider of his affections for the two legged female.)

I will be angry until the day that I die that the Eragon film was bad because Garrett Hedlund was the best damn Murtagh and he would have killed the rest of his story had they done a good job with that movie.

THE REASONS:

- his writing, understandable and fluid;

- his wholesome worlds, as in the inheritance cycle as in sleep in a sea of star and also in fractal noise;

- his complex characters and also his strong and independent women;

- let's not forget he wrote one hell of a romantic storyline (hem hem* Murtagh and Nasuada *hem hem);

- although 20 years have passed since he wrote Eragon, he continues to expand that world he created as a teenager with other wonderful books, which makes it clear what a marvel of world building he has created;

- and, ultimately, a lot of other reasons.

I've reached Inheritance in my reread, and Nasuada's chapters are as heartbreaking as I remembered 💔

So here are Murtagh and Nasuada in the hall of the Soothsayer.

I'm not quite happy with how this has turned out, but I'm also tired of messing with it, so this is what it looks like for now.
