I guess it is bed time then.   Shhh. I will sing you a lullaby. 

I’m really tired.

Why is that?

I think I’m going to go to bed early tonight.

"Yeah, like a treat or something."  Kovu said with a bright smile.  "Was I that obvious?" He asked as Algernon announced they were headed to the aquarium. "Well, I here this one is cool and I brought a packed dinner for us to share."  He bit his lip. "I know that it isn't a fancy restaurant...but you were so reluctant to let me pay last time so I thought this would be a nice compromise."  He said with a smile.  After about 15 minutes on the bus Kovu hit the stop button and lead himself and Algernon into the Aquarium. 

Kovu smiled to the ticket clerk as he handed her his debit card. "Two please."  He said. She handed them each a ticket and then they entered the exhibit hall. "So, I was thinking we would hit the big tank last, that way we can eat surrounded by the ocean."  He said as he smiled at Algernon. "Maybe Penguins first?"

"You’re very welcome, Kovu." Algernon smiled when the other boy took the rose, relieved that he liked it, or that it wasn’t too much. Speaking of too much, he felt that way when he looked at the older, who was dressed a little more casually than he was. The younger let him take his hand as they exited the building. "I don’t mind at all, it’s how I usually get around." He chuckled softly, looking at Kovu curiously. "Something more?" He repeated, tilting his head to the side.

As per usual, Algernon shivered outside, but thankfully it wasn’t long until the bus came, and once again, he gave a small noise of protest when Kovu paid for them, again. “Well, judging by all of the questions, I assume that we’re going somewhere water-themed, and the only place I can think of around here suited to that would be the aquarium.” Algernon guessed.

I have a Valentine's date and I like him.

As Kovu looked over Algernon again, he shook his head in a smile. Now he felt under dressed near the gorgeous boy.  He took the rose with a smile. "The is beautiful Algernon, Thank you."  He  placed it in one of the pockets of his messenger bag so it stuck out the side.  He took Algernon's hand and headed towards the bus stop. "I hope you don't mind a couple minutes on the bus. I was going to get a cab but then I thought that money could go towards something more for the two of us to do."  He smiled. 

They arrived at the bus stop and about 5 minutes later climbed on the bus.  Kovu paid for both of them as he had done the last time they were together.  He took a seat and helped Algernon into the one next to him. "So, do you want to guess were we are going from my questions or should we just wait and see?"

Algernon, strangely enough, was calm. Normally, the boy was just a bundle of anxious and jumpy nerves, but there was something about Kovu that calmed him, so spending Valentine’s Day with the other boy wasn’t a scary prospect to him. If anything, it was comforting. The younger only took a few minutes before deciding what to wear- a deep red button down with black jeans and a pair of dark ankle-high boots. It took a few more minutes of hesitation before deciding that he, in an unprecedented turn of events, was not going to wear his signature cap. Algernon put a blazer on over his shirt, and glanced to his desk. On it was a single white rose, just a little something to show his appreciation towards the older. 

When a soft knock sounded at the door, Algernon smiled, walking over towards his desk to get the flower when suddenly another knock sounded, louder and almost startling him. “Coming!” He called lightly, taking the rose before opening the door. “Oh, thank you.” Algernon smiled, ducking his head slightly. “You look really nice too, Kovu.” He extended the hand with the white rose in it. “Um, here. I got this for you.” He chewed on his bottom lip anxiously, gauging his reaction. “Yes, I am.” He stepped out into the hallway beside the other boy.

Guppies (A Valentine's Day Story) || Algernon & Al

Kovu was nervous.  So nervous. Actually, he couldn't even remember the last time you had been this nervous. There was something about Algernon that made him smile, that made him want to make this one....stick.  He paced around the room a bit and tried to decide if his outfit was to formal for an evening at the aquarium. The dark jeans were fine, but it was more the button up shirt that he was wearing.   He took it off and slipped on another shirt, this time it was flannel. A compromise to himself, it still had buttons but was not as fancy.  He grabbed his jacket and his messenger bad that was full of a snack like dinner for the two of them and the gift Kovu had made Algernon.  

Kovu knocked on Algernon's door nervously. The first time it was soft and probably only barely audible to Algernon. It was the nervous.  Kovu took a deep breath and knocked again, this time it was forceful, almost too loud. "Dammit" he muttered under his breath. When the door open Kovu looked over Algernon, who wouldn't, the boy was stunning. "Wow Algernon, you look wonderful."  He said with a smile.  "You ready to head out?"
