I won't survive Friday with Zucc there. They knew what they were doing when they picked the Wild game 😭 Also, my kid wrote "sad day" on the calendar for Friday and I have to make him a special shirt for the day
I just wanted to come here and say THANK YOU for writing Blue Line so many moons ago. Because without that story I'd have never started watching hockey again or cheering for the Rangers and those painful seasons leading up to this one have made it all worth it to watch the JOY from this amazing season! So THANK YOU!
PS I hope we all don't cry too much on Friday 😭
Oh my gosh, well this absolutely made my day! Hearing about how Blue Line got people to watch hockey or think about watching hockey or cheering for the Rangers is among my absolute favorite things in the entire universe. So, like, the cockles of my heart are appropriately warm.
And, honestly, it was always kind of funny because I wrote that story and the Rangers were just like—TIME TO REBUILD THE TEAM! Legit, Derek Stepan (who was the original basis for Robin and his game and his relationship with Killian/Chris Kreider) got traded like a week before I started posting. The Senators are the team that beats the Rangers in the playoffs when Killian is trying to decide whether or not to retire because that happened in real life right before I wrote that chapter and I cried in the middle of Madison Square Garden. And then the Rangers just didn't make the playoffs again! I'm not counting the bubble, really. They have not been good! They traded Ryan McDonagh! I still think about that one anon ask I got that was like: I didn't know hockey would be this painful!
All this to say that I also am experiencing real human JOY at watching this team this season. Truth be told, this might be my favorite Rangers team? Like, ever? The 2014 Cup team obviously owns a special piece of my heart. And the 16-17 team, too, because those are the Blue Line Rangers. But this group? Oof. They're an absolute goddamn delight. Everyone is so in love and willing to kill other players in defense of their own and they all hug so much and I am into that. Are these come from behind victories taking literal years off my life? Quite possibly. But it's fun while it's happening.
PS: I'm gonna cry so much on Friday.

Took my kid to Flames/Rangers game on Nov 6. We made a sign (see pic), Rangers photographer took his photo, so many Rangers & Flames fans rooted him on. No puck, still have berries. Hunt's family was so sweet - tried to get us a puck from any player and still nothing. Simone took the puck that was meant for us and gave to another kid. We got lots of side eye from the players but no acknowledgement, disappointing because they literally play here once a year. I know they don't owe us anything, but we literally wore our Rangers jerseys through 3 hours of of 'Fox you suck' from the C of Red. Ok end rant.....
