i am using the opening sequence of Star Trek The Next Generation as a reference for my hybrid animation. I want an asteroid heading towards Earth but ends up being a tiny astroid that hits a space station in orbit.

Angela’s Christmas trailer, brown bag studios. A 3D CGI animation based on a story of Frank McCourts mother as a child at Christmas in limerick in the early 1900’s. I watch this short movie at Christmas with my mother who is from that part of limerick. The chruch featured is my mothers parish chruch. She was so interested to see the short movie even though she is not a fan of animation. Brown bag seem to be the outstanding 3D animators in Ireland and Cartoon Saloon the leading 2D animators. A collaboration between the two could be special. For my 3D 2D hybrid animation I think ill based it in a chruch, our local chruch, “The chruch of the little ark”. The little ark being a portable alter that was used to say mass in Kilbaha bay in 1853-57 after the local priest was refused a site to build a church by the protestant landlord. So the priest had a wooden cart converted into an altar and used to say mass down on the shore when the tide was out cause below the watermark on the shore was considered no mans land and the landlord could not prevent him from saying mass there. There’s a story there somewhere that only happens in the chruch. The church is open to public and is regularly empty. So a lone person could find solace or something more.

Final edit of Smarter Travel brief. I am pretty happy with it. i know it is far from brilliant or perfect but for me at this time is probably near the best i could do. If i was to do it again i would try to limit the story and keep it more simple with less backgrounds and the aspects that took time that i didn't have when making it. So for that reason i think the actual animation parts suffered.

My second attempt at the final edit. I am trying to get the sound levels right. There seems to be a difference from how the audio sounds on Premire Pro than to how it sounds on YouTube.

No sound yet, but final edit. I did not render correctly as the quality is poor on a large screen.

Lip sync breakdown assignment.
We had to take a piece of dialogue and had to breakdown the mouth movements to match either an A Mouth, BM, CM, DM, EM and FM.
I am happy enough with the sync.

This is a short sci-fi animation about a metal detector enthusiast causing the possible end of the world. Decent story but I was distracted by the size of the characters heads, why we're they so small? It wasn't strong in style or technique in parts. Sound for the machines was kinda taken from War of the Worlds and seemed obvious. Hit and miss for me but still better than anything I could do yet.

I am here, directed by Eoin Duffy. Dave Phealan originally showed us this in class. I came across it again in shortoftheweek.com and watched it again. I do really like it even though I dont fully get it. It's style is really good. Even though he uses simple shapes on a 2D plane he shows 3D aspect in the head as it moves and turns. The music, dialogue and visuals are perfectly synced and have impact and appeal. What ill take from this is that style can be anything as long as its clean, smooth and appealing with strong production qualities.

An award winning animation, Bacchus is about a young woman who is in a rut and goes on an unexpected journey. A little confusing but visual strong. A good mix of styles and good use of colour. Something that I could take from it for my smarter travel brief. I have a dream sequence and a character stuck in a rut also. I really like their way of showing that fact with their character stuck in the middle wjile the setting changes quicker and quicker.
