You despised Aoânung ever since you arrived on the shore of the Metkayinaâs home. It only grew stronger since then. Watching him laugh at you and your siblings. Watching him pick fights with your brother. He was the one person you hated most in this world.
You were glad to know that it was a mutual disliking at least. Made you feel like less of a dickhead.
Aoânung never could say he hated you. But he for sure did not like you. Well.
He wasnât sure.
His stomach twisted into knots seeing you. Were they knots of anger? Weird knots.
But you disliked him so much, he wasnât going to back down to a challenge. And thatâs what you were, a challenge. He was either going to one up the level of hatred emitted from you, or he was going to break down the hatred with his ⊠undeniable charm. Thatâs what he called it. He wanted to say he just wanted to charm you but a deep feeling inside screamed that he just wanted to court you. Make you his.
He couldnât exactly remember the instance when he realises he wanted to âcharmâ you, but he had a couple of ideas.
You were sitting on the dock wear they kept the saddles for the iluâs. Peacefully you watched the sky as the sun moved slowly. He couldnât really tell what drew you to him so much that day but it did and that he was sure on.
You noticed him staring at you, his eyes boring into the back of your head. Turning, Aoânung watched you scowl at him as you got to your feet. All sense of peacefulness had vanished.
âWhat are you staring at?â
âJust you, nothing exciting.â You scoffed and barged your shoulder into him. Mumbling a length of curse words while walking past him.
Something about the way you pushed into him, the way you were unapologetic about it. It intrigued him.
Another time he felt it was best to charm you was, while you were all breathing together. Sitting up on the rocks you focused on your breathing. It was intriguing the way your lips pursed when you exhaled.
âBreathe from your stomachâŠhere-â
âIf you try to pull a Tsireya right now Iâm going to chop your hand off and pin it to my wall as a trophy.â
Aoânung put his hands back up defensively as you glared into his temples. He couldnât help the smile that was growing on his face, you just were stirred up so easily. It was impossible to not want to do it constantly.
âFine, Fine.. just donât bite.â
You scowled at him, chomping down on your teeth to make a loud chomp sound. You were tired of his antics, yet he always lingered in your mind. Even when he wasnât around he was still pestering you in your mind.
That same day Aoânung followed you into your marui. His annoying footsteps thundered in your ears. Would he ever just piss off? Apparently not.
âWhat are you up to?â
âIâm trying to be alone Aoânung.â
âThatâs boring.â
Sighing in defeat, you decided to try and act like he wasnât in your presence. Opting to pretend that he wasnât even there. But Aoânung was stubborn. So stubborn.
Every time you tried to turn to avoid his stares, heâd turn with you. Every time you ignored a question he had, heâd repeat it until you would let out an exasperated sigh. And when all else failed and you tried to push him out of your home heâd walk closer to you.
It explains why you were sat in a corner with an eager Aoânung, a smile up to his ears sitting in front of you.
âWhy are you here Aoânung? Do you take pleasure in pissing me off?â
âYeah I do.â
You didnât bother to try and hide the way your eyes rolled. He was infuriating, infuriating in the way he lit your heart a light by the way he was so close, yet he made your ears prick up in anger.
âWhat will make you leave me alone, since your being a pest.â
âTell me why you hate me.â His face was still grinning leaning towards you, waiting for an answer. Watching your face contort into a confused expression to an expression filled with annoyance. It fuelled him. He loved watching you annoyed. He really was a pest wasnât he?
âYou constantly disrespect me and my family. Youâre annoying, rude and quite frankly a parasite. Thereâs nothing to like about you.â
Aoânung got even closer to your face now, close enough to feel your hot breath on his nose. You wanted to smack the shit out of his smug face, literally pound it into the ground.
âI think you like some things about me.â
âOh yeah like what.â You scoffed at him, looking away. His eye contact was intimidating.
âI think you like my face.â
âIâd like to smash your-â
âYouâd like to smash? Slow down there Y/N.â
You shoved him to the ground. The thunk his head made meeting the floor was therapeutic to your ears. Standing up you stepped over the smirking Aoânung who looked up at you as you stood above his face.
âGet out. Iâve had enough.â
Aoânung nodded. He knew when to end things on a high note, and this was certainly a high note. Finishing with you pushing him onto the floor and standing over him? It was amazing. And it intrigued him immensely.
The last time he knew that he wanted to charm you was only a couple days before. He watched you lay in the shallow water, letting the water cover everything but your face and the knees you had bent to stick out of the water.
âWhy are you laying there? What is wrong with you?â
âYou never seem to go away.â
âMaybe I never want to be away from you.â He relished in watching your face turn a darker shade of blue as you turned away from him standing above you. Similar to how you did a couple weeks ago in your marui.
âAw look your blushing.â He said as he sat beside you in a mocking tone.
âIâm going to kick your head in so hard that your teeth come out of your ass.â
âSounds hot.â
A frustrated scream erupted from your throat. âOh my god. Youâre infuriating. Like actually.â
Aoânung scooted towards you to let your arms brush up against each other. The way your body tensed. It was almost embarrassing.
âI think that you like me.â
âSure.â
âNo really I doâŠwatch this.â
He picked up your chin tilting towards him in one swift motion. Your mind forgot to work, you were frozen staring into his eyes. His smug smile turned into more of a sincere one at the way your face softened while he held it.
âYeah you definitely do.â You swatted his hand away as you raised your hands to your cheek to try and cool them down. How could he have such control over your emotions. So, embarrassing.
âI donât. I truly donâtâ
âI think you doâŠâ he grabbed your face again now coming close that your lips were almost brushing each other. The sparks that were erupting in both yours and Aoânungâs chest were intense. Your body stiff but also like jelly at the same time made you melt into his grip even more. âand I think that I do too.â
ââââ â

Warnings: none!
(A/n: Anon requested this but Iâm a dumdum and forgot to post the req đđ«¶đ» âbrothers bestfriend aonung x reader fluff pls đ„șâ tysm for the req I hope you enjoy)
-
Heâd sneak into your pod at night, absolutely falling on his ass in the process.
Itâs 12AM, youâre falling asleep when you hear a thud, you jolt up instantly, starting to get worried. âRelax baby itâs just meâ A familiar voice calls out. You look up and see Aoânung, smiling like a little kid as he makes his way inside. âAo what the hell! You know theyâre in the othe-â youâre instantly cut off by him, âshh baby they wonât even notice Iâm here, I canât sleep without youâ he says, still working his way over to your bed, trying to watch his steps. A soft look overcomes on your face, finding him adorable. âOkay okay well get over here, I missed your stupid faceâ You say with a grin, holding your arms out, signaling for him to hurry and lay in your arms. He perks up at this and picks up his pace, a little too fast because he trips over a basket and lands on his face. You gasp quietly, âwhat the hell did I say about being quietâ you whisper yell, trying to remain serious after seeing your man absolutely bust his ass on the floor, he groans before getting up, about to speak when heâs cut off by an older voice. âY/n what was that?â Your dad Jake calls from the other room. Aoânung and you both panic and look at eachother wide eyed before you speak âuh- nothing dad, I got up to pee and fell on my way backâ You said, trying to sound convincing which caused Aoânung to hold his hand over his mouth and laugh, you mouth âitâs not funnyâ. âOkay well goodnightâ Your father says, conversation over. Aoânung finally makes his way over to you and he hurries into your embrace. âYoure so stupidâ you whisper, Aoânung laying on your boobs. âYou tooâ he says, both of you giggling.
He loves taking you out for late night swims, walks, anything at night. Itâs a time he can be with you freely without having to worry about your brothers seeing you two.
Anytime your brothers arenât in the same area, heâd sneak kisses. You both have almost been caught wayy too many times, Aoânung thinks itâs funny.
âOne moreâ peck. âAoâ you say sternly. âPlease just one moreâ peck. âAo theyâre literally grabbing something from the other room, they will be backâ You say, trying not to give in anymore, the last thing you want is to get caught kissing your boyfriend. âOkay please just this last timeâ
Itâs not the last time LMAO
When your brothers arenât looking he will mouth some crazy shit leaving you like ????
âSay you gotta go to the bathroom so we can kissâ
âYou look so fine right nowâ
This is just some of the shit he will mouth, you started to pretend to not be able lip read because you thought it would be funny, and it was- now after the 3rd time trying to mouth it so you understand your brothers are now about to turn around so he gives up and stops, looking pissed and youâre about to lose it because he looks like â>:|â LMAOOOO
Once he catches on he will now mouth for you to stop ignoring him đ
He likes to tease you, your brothers will be talking about girls with Aoânung so he will make sure you can hear and he will start talking about some random Navi chick to try to rile you up, so you decide to beat him at his own game
âSo you seeing anyone right now?â Neteyam asks and Loak chimes in laughing, wanting to know aswell. Aoânung looks at you then smirks âYeah you know Naâria? Me and her are talking, she was all over me yesterdayâ he says still smirking. Which was a lie, he was connected to your hip yesterday, per usual. You decide to chime in âYea I seen Shiâri yesterday, he asked me out, heâs pretty handsome, I think Iâll say yesâ you say giggling, Aoânungs smirk drops QUICKK and now he looks pissed, goal complete!
When you finally get to be alone with him hes sulky and petty. âNah go kiss Shiâri since heâs so handsomeâ
His facade is up in two minutes after you start kissing him
When your siblings, him and you are watching a movie he will try to be so slick with it itâs insane. âY/n Iâm kind of cold, can I get some blanket too?â He says with an innocent look, you know what heâs doing. Your siblings donât think much of it, turning back to the movie. Once heâs under the blanket heâs starting his BS and smirking, he pounces on you as soon as heâs covered.
When heâs in your pod if you donât give him a goodnight peck he threatens to scream and let everyone know heâs in here.
Heâs such a dork I love our man yâall đ©

MY HEARRTTT
(Aoânung x Fem! MetkayinaReader)
warnings: (y/n) is described as female
context: young Aoânung meets the shy daughter of the Oloâeyktan from a neighboring village and finds himself developing a little crush. Aoânung and (Y/N) are about 7 and 8 years old.
AN: uhahahahaha yeah this isnât proof read at all. So apologies if itâs kinda all over(?)
part two
Young love:
âAoânung, this is (Y/N)â Tonowari introduces his son to the little girl.
Aoânung awkwardly waves looked at the girl who had stayed hidden behind her own fathers legs.
ââŠhello thereâ he says softly noticing the girl was shy.
The girls father scooted to the side and lightly nudged his daughter forward gesturing her to greet the boy back.
She stares up at her father with scared eyes shaking her head no but her father only looked at her with a gentle gaze silently pleading for her to do so.
Getting the hint she looks down playing her her hands introducing herself quietly. âhiâŠAoânungâŠIâm (Y/N)â a soft voice reached all their ears.
As soon as Aoânung heard the angelic voice his ears visibly twitch and perk up hearing his name leave her lips. Heat rushed to his cheeks as he couldnât stop the smile reaching his face.
âHi (Y/N)!â He greets again with his tail wagging behind him at the little girl standing in front.
The two men laugh watching their children interact with another. âAoânung why donât you take (Y/N) to go play while me and Ta'unui talk about some adult stuff.â
âokay, come on (Y/N) we can go to hang out by the waterâ Aoânung takes a few steps before stopping waiting for her to follow.
âsempu⊠Iâm scaredâ the little girl mumbles holding on to her fathers hand tightly while looking up at him not wanting to leave his side as this was a whole new place to her.
Ta'unui gave his daughter a reassuring smile before grabbing her hand and bringing her to Aoânung placing her hand in the boys.
âThereâs no need to be scared, if anything happens Aoânung will be there to protect you. Right Aoânung?â Ta'unui looks at Aoânung.
Aoânung gently gripped (Y/N)âs hand smiling at her before looking at the two older men puffing his chest out standing straight. âOf course I will, I am the future Oloâeyktan.â
âAttaâ boy, now go on. We will call you when you can come back. Maybe show (Y/N) around the village yeah?â Tonowari says proudly with a thumbs up.
âOf course father, Come on letâs go (Y/N)â Aoânung says pulling her along as they leave to go walk around the village.
âThis is where the village holds their trading, you can trade your baskets or jewelry for fruit and fish and the other way aroundâ He gestures to the items that were out.
(Y/N) shyly looks at him and then around staring at all the items that were laid on a mat for display. A shiny shell catches her eye and Aoânung who was watching her the whole time notices and trails over to where she was looking at.
âDo you like that shell?â He asks as he walks them closer to take a better look. (Y/N) doesnât say anything by stare in awe. He knew she wanted it when he saw a twinkle in her eye, It was a white colored shell with a tan pattern across it. (Kinda like his mothers ;) )
Aoânung knew not to take her quietness as rude, from what he observed she was very shy are rarely talked from being nervous so it was just how she was.
Aoânung smiles and keeps it in mind before asking if she wanted to go look at other stuff. She smiled and nodded her head.
While (Y/N) was distracted Aoânung had asked one of the aunties for a flower saying he would trade them some fish that heâll catch later but they shook their head and gave it to him for free.
Being the Oloâeyktan sometimes had its perks. He called the girls name to get her attention.
âI got you this flower.â Aoânung shows her while her eyes lit up at the sight of it. His face once again heating up.
Aoânung smiles and bring his hand on the bottom of her chin making her look up at him and puts the flower behind her ear.
He watches her face as it started to cover with a purple hue, she smiles at Aoânung. âThank you Aoânungâ
Oh how he wished to hear her voice more, it was like music to his ears.
As it got late they both made it back to Aoânungâs Marui, where their fathers stayed, still hand in hand.
âJust in time, I was about to send someone out to get you guysâ Tonowari opens the door letting them in.
(Y/N) letâs go of Aoânungâs hand before running up to her dad hugging his hip and pointing to the flower behind her ear.
A small pout fell on his face as he looked at his now empty hand. He wanted to hold her hand for longer, he wanted her to stay by his side.
âHey âitetsyĂŹp did you have fun with Aoânung?â Ta'unui asks his daughter while hugging her back.
âOh did he get you this flower to you as well?â (Y/N) grinning brightly nodded her head up and down with excitement.
âHe did! Isnât it so pretty sempu!â She looks at Aoânung making eye contact and smiles with him reciprocating the action.
A second later they were all interrupted by presence at the door. It was a lady, she looked familiar to the little girl but she couldnât exactly pin point where she saw her before.
âSorry for interrupting Oloâeyktanâs , Aoânung hereâs the gift you requested me to make. I hope you like itâ the woman gives him an item that was wrapped up in cloth and takes her leave saying goodbye.
The two men and little girl stare at the young boy confused as to what was wrapped up.
âItâs actually a gift for you, (Y/N)..I had her make you something special..â Aoânung says while walking over to her handing out the gift.
(Y/N) looks up at her dad and he nods motioning his head towards it. She walks forward and shyly takes it.
As (Y/N) unwraps the cloth a gasp fell from her lips as she saw what was inside. It was a necklace with different pearls and beads with the shell she was looking at earlier in the middle. Thatâs where she recognized the lady from.
âAoânung!â She runs up the boy and wraps her arms around his waist giving him a big hug. âThis is the best gift ever! Thank you so much! I love it!â
âOf course, I saw how much you liked it so I just had to get it for you. Here let me put it on youâ
He grabs the necklace out of her hands and waits as she turns around holding her hair up so he could put it on.
âThank you Aoânung that was very kind of you to give that to herâ Ta'unui pats the boys head nodding in approval.
âBut Iâm afraid itâs time for us to leave, we have to get back to our village before your mom skins me alive for being late.â
The two kids frown in sadness. âDonât worry youâll get to see each other very soonâ Tonowari say while putting a hand on Aoânungs shoulder.
âThank you for your time, May we meet againâ The fathers give their goodbyes as the kids do the same.
And with that Tonowari and Aoânung watch as (Y/N) and her father get on their skimwing and ilu and swim off.

Disappointed
summary: disgusted with what your boyfriend did to the poor forest boy, you cannot speak to him, driving him crazy.
1.2k words fem!metkayina reader
ââââ â
*â*â
ââââ
You were horrified. The pit of disgust bubbling in your stomach as you watched the scene in front of you. Aoânung, your lover, sent some poor boy out to a death trap. Fiery depths of your emotions recoiled inside you. Eyes burning with disappointment as you stared at Aoânung from a far being scolded by his father.
It was after all the chaos had happened but now you watched closely to his scolding. Witnessing the winces on his face when ever his mother chimed in. But you didnât feel bad, you were disgusted with him, the least he deserved was a reprimanding.
âIâve had enough with you Aoânung, your punishment will be decided tomorrow.â Ronal hissed at him before leaving the pod with Tonowari. You supposed they were going to the Sullyâs.
You watched Aoânung as he crouched on the ground, his face stiff to stop any emotion he was experiencing to be shown. You looked down at him, a loud sigh escaping your mouth. How could he be that stupid? How could he do that to the poor boy?
âAoânung.â His head immediately turned to face you. He saw the look in your eye, the glimmer of disappointment and it killed him. The way you scowled down at him, the look you gave him would take him years to recover from.
âY/N you have to understand, I am sorry. I should- I should never have done that to Loâak.â Rolling your eyes and scoffing it made Aoânung feel small under your gaze.
âIâm disgusted with you, I love you Aoânung but I am ashamed to be with someone so cruel.â The rasp and the way you said it so quiet. Quiet enough for it to feel the ever-most hurtful.
âPlease Y/N, I apologised to Loâak⊠donât say shit like that.â Aoânung was on his knees now looking up at you. It was in the spur of the moment but he was ready to beg and plead for you to take back your shame.
âI donât want to talk to you right now. Bye Aoânung.â Walking out fast you heard Aoânungâs breath tremble. You knew your words were harsh, but he was a bully, a conniving, cruel person today and you couldnât be around him.
It had been days since you had talked to him. Youâd see him give you longing looks across the shore while you built sandcastles with Tuk. You thought about forgiving him, but he had truly disappointed you, it made you wonder if he truly deserved to be forgiven.
âCâmon Y/N⊠heâs staring so hard right now.â Loâak laughed as you all sat in a circle with Tsireya and all his siblings. âIâve forgiven him, you should too.â
âHe doesnât deserve it.â A blunt statement that made everyone shocked, Tsireya even letting out a small gasp.
Even Kiri who truly didnât like Aoânung was shocked. She knew that Aoânung was sorrowful about his actions and seeing his pleading eyes edge closer and closer to where you all we gathered was torturous.
âHe has tried very hard to make amends with us Y/N.â Neteyam chimed in. He was sick of hearing Aoânungâs complaints about your absence and just wanted you to forgive the boy.
âWeâre bros! Câmon Y/N, heâs miserable without you.â Loâak smacked your shoulder with his free hand. The other occupied as he held onto Tsireyaâs arm.
âHe is your lover Y/N, you must miss him too.â Tsireya softly said, her voice calming.
âI just donât know if I can love someone who can be so cruel.â
You didnât think what you said was that shocking but the way everyoneâs faces had fell made you second guess yourself. Turning around to where everyoneâs gaze laid was Aoânung. His face blank, his eyes averting your gaze as his lips trembled just slightly.
You knew he heard you, it wasnât like what you said wasnât true, but it was slighty exaggerated.
âShit.â Loâak whispered out earning a harsh glare from his brother and a light slap from his sister.
You couldnât get any words out, the time moving slowly as you watched Aoânung start to walk off, towards his marui. His usual cocky stride replaced with a fast paced walk, like he was trying to race the emotions about to spill out of his body.
Tsireya put her hand on your thigh, looking into her eyes she motioned to her brother. It was her subtly telling you to go, to follow after him. You could ignore him no longer.
As soon as you got up your legs were moving. Following Aoânung in his pod. The sounds of his sniffles were heart shattering, maybe you let your disappointment go too long, you were stuck in your own head you didnât think about his.
Pulling the curtain back you looked at Aoânung, the way his hands were balled into fists as he crouched in the centre of the room. You slowly walked over to him. Crouching in front of him, his heavy breathes and shaking fists made you feel overwhelmed with guilt.
âAoânung-â His eyes shot up to look at you. Glossy and bloodshot. Heâd been crying?
âDo you not love me anymore? Because if you donât you can go.â His voice was quiet but still piercing, filled with hurt.
âNo Aoânung. That is not what I meant.â
âThen what did you mean? Huh?â
âI just, I was shocked. I didnât think that was something you had in you. And I wanted no part of it.â
Aoânungâs eyes averted yours, he knew it was all his fault. But he didnât think heâd lose his love over it, he couldnât lose you.
âIâve tried so hard to apologise Y/N, Iâve done everything. Please can you forgive me too.â His voice was laced with desperation no he gripped your arm with both of his hands. The possibility of losing you was becoming more and more like a guarantee, making his emotions pool in his eyes.
âI know you have Aoânung.â Thatâs when you noticed the tears rolling down his cheek, a small gasp was let out of your mouth as you used the hand he wasnât holding to wipe the tear off his face. âDonât cry Aoânung please.â
Aoânungâs lip quivered rapidly, he felt so weak in front of you, letting his emotions out. He was being so vulnerable in front of you, it made him want to never look you in the eye again. âForgive me baby please. Iâm so sorry, I donât want you to hate me.â
Pushing him into your chest, you rubbed a hand up and down his back soothing his shaking body. âOh Aoânung, I donât hate you. I see you.â
Aoânungâs body stiffened before immediately embracing you tighter than before. Laying down he rested his head on your chest, listening to your breathing. He longed for your touch for so long, he longed for you, to now be resting upon you again felt like a blessing.
âI am sorry Y/Nâ You smiled down at him, a hand caressing his head as he held onto you tightly.
âI know baby, donât worry about it any longer.â

Best fic out there ong
| actually the worst | part 6
aoânung x f!reader
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6
summary: when you wake up somewhere you aren't supposed to be, you get angry with ao'nung for being so calm while you feel nothing but guilty for leaving your injured sister alone. as things with your family slowly begin to mend, you realize that ao'nung probably hates you again for snapping at him. only when yours and kiri's birthday rolls around do you get a chance to work out your highly complex relationship with the metkayina boy, but it's not exactly the solution you were expecting.
includes: enemies to lovers, teasing, swearing, suggestiveness, mentions of seizure/death, ao'nung being so bfđ„”
word count: 5.7k
a/n: so this is the final part! if people are into the idea i was thinking of doing a lil' bonus part based on the not-memory from part 5 (where ao'nung visits the forest)đ€ but anyway, i just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who has read and interacted with this series, i seriously cannot believe how kind everyone is𫶠i am definitely going to keep writing other fics (and might even branch out to do some other characters, who knowsđ€)
this is a bit lengthy because i was trying to wrap up a bunch of loose ends. i realized when proofreading that ao'nung kind of doesn't even show up for a good portion of the middle part??? so sorry about thatđ«Ł also i'm sorry but i couldnât not put a 10 things i hate about you reference in here because itâs just the exact vibe at the end, so creds to that movie for the inspo:)
You woke before the sun did, the very beginnings of warm orange and pink light only barely peeking above the horizon. It was still mostly dark, and you felt extremely disoriented. Not only were you rarely an early riser, but you also rarely woke in the middle of the beach, which is where you currently seemed to be. Not only that, but a muscular arm was slung across your waist as well, pulling you close to the body who was attached to it.
Slowly, you turned your head and nearly screamed when your eyes met the sleeping form of your worst enemy-turned crush-turned sort of friend. Ao'nung looked at peace while asleep, something that did not come easy to him when awake. It would have been kind of nice to see if you weren't so horrified by the predicament.
"Jesus christ..." You muttered to yourself, the events of the previous night coming into focus in your mind. Trying not to breathe or move too much, you attempted to slowly shimmy out of Ao'nung's grasp. You had almost successfully freed yourself when the boy beside you suddenly snapped his eyes open, looking briefly confused before his own look of horror settled in. You practically jumped away from each other.
"We fell asleep." Ao'nung said dumbly.
"Great observation, genius." You snapped, pushing yourself up from the sand while you hurriedly brushed it off your skin. "If you ever breathe a word of this to anyone, I will personally cut off your-"
"Woah! Relax, princess. Wasn't planning on it." Ao'nung held his hands up in surrender, standing as well. You stiffened at the ridiculous nickname, but decided not to get into it as you turned quickly on your heel and began jogging away from the beach. You had way more pressing things to think about now. In fact, you were growing increasingly more angry with yourself as the seconds ticked by. Were you really so delirious from fear that you let such a thing happen? Kiri needed you.. but you were selfishly allowing yourself to be consoled in the arms of a boy instead.
Ao'nung caught up to you easily, though he maintained a decent distance as he spoke. "About last night-"
"Don't." You ordered, annoyed that he wanted to talk about it and embarrassed that it even happened. "That was a mistake." You trained your eyes ahead, hoping he would take the hint and leave you alone.
"Look, forest girl, I know you're probably embarrassed because-"
You cut him off once again, finally just stopping in your tracks as you whipped around to face him. "Just stop with this stupid little flirting thing right now, okay? You don't know what I'm feeling. My twin sister almost died last night and I just left her alone when nobody knows what the hell is wrong with her! She needs me there at her side and what was I doing instead? Joking around and laughing with the guy I'm supposed to hate and then waking up beside him in the middle of the goddamn beach instead of next to her!" You spat, all of your fury and guilt spewing out along with your words. Ao'nung was frozen in place, eyes wide. "Just go away." You finished forcefully, making him flinch slightly. You didn't wait to hear a response before taking off once again toward your marui.
When you finally arrived, Neteyam, Lo'ak, and Tuk were all standing around outside the marui, looking as if they hadn't slept. A fresh wave of guilt washed over you at the thought.
"[Y/N]!" Tuk called when she noticed your approaching form, racing up to cling onto your side in a sort of hug. "Where were you?" She questioned, and Neteyam and Lo'ak nodded, waiting to hear your response. Blood rushed to your cheeks, your face growing warm in shame.
"I fell asleep on the beach." You mumbled. Not technically a lie.
"We were worried..." Neteyam said, placing a hand on your shoulder as he looked into your eyes. You could tell that he suspected you were holding back the truth. Your throat burned as you swallowed thickly.
"Sorry. I'm sorry," You breathed, ducking your head down.
"It's okay. I know it was difficult for you last night." Neteyamâs lips twisted into a sad smile, pulling you into a gentle hug. Tuk was quick to join, squeezing herself in between the two of you as she put her arms around your waists. Even Lo'ak came over, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder and offering you a look of silent understanding. You breathed in deeply, grateful for their support and easy forgiveness.
"How is she?" You finally asked, pulling away so you could peek around Lo'ak into the marui. Neteyam sighed, guiding you over to the entrance.
"She is still asleep. Ronal had to go rest before she will be able to do anything for her." You noticed your parents sitting together inside, but you focused your attention on assessing your sleeping sister, in search of any visible injuries that may have appeared since you saw her last. Thankfully, she truly did seem physically unharmed. However, it pained you to see her eyes closed and her body so still, the only sign of life coming from the occasional rise and fall of her chest. You kneeled next to her, taking her hand.
"Wake up," You whispered. "Please."
"Where did you go?" You heard your father question from his spot on the floor. You looked up slowly, your guilt creeping back. You just stared at him and your mother for a moment, trying to work out what to say.
"It does not matter, my Jake." Your mother had caught the look in your eyes, nodding in a sort of silent understanding. "She is here now."
Jake glanced between the two of you briefly before deciding to drop it. You breathed a silent sigh of relief.
"I called Norm and Max." Jake said. "They should be here in an hour or so. They may be able to tell us what happened" You nodded in approval, returning your gaze to your twin. It wasnât ideal to have your familyâs old friends risk the journey down here, but if it meant even a chance of helping Kiri then you knew it was more than worth it. You only wished they would get there faster.
The helicopter landing had gathered quite a crowd, all looking nervous at the prospect of "demons" arriving on the island. That was fair, but to you it was a welcome relief to see Norm and Max approaching alongside your father, their equipment in tow. You had promised not to leave Kiri's side, though, so you watched from through the door as they quickly scrambled over.
"[Y/N]!" Norm called when he noticed you, your lips twisting into a small smile. It may have been terrible circumstances, but it was still good to see your old friends.
"Hey, Norm. Max" You nodded in greeting and they both pulled you in for a short hug before starting to set things up. They wasted no time in placing sensors along Kiri's face and head, asking your family anything and everything you knew about what had happened.
Once everything was in place, they started running diagnostics and doing everything they could to get an idea of what was going on inside Kiri's head. It was a slow process, however, and ten minutes seemed to turn into an hour, then an hour into two. Still, you sat as close as you could without interfering, dividing your mind between trying to understand what Norm and Max were saying about your sister and just simply willing something to work so that Kiri would open her eyes.
"There's no bleed. There's no fracture. No effects of hypoxia. The brain looks good." Max said, shaking his head in confusion as he glanced through the scans they had taken.
"But we still have this interictal activity here in the prefrontal." Norm pointed out.
"Yes, she's definitely had a seizure." Max nodded, and you wondered how he could be so calm. You felt nauseous at the thought. As they continued their discussion, someone entered the marui behind you, and you turned to find Ronal looking outraged at the setup.
"I see that I am not needed here." Your heart dropped as she spoke, but you stood quickly, panicked as she turned to leave. You were about to say something when your mother grabbed Ronal's arm.
"You are Tshaik!" She hissed, sounding both angry and pleading. Clearly Norm and Max were running out of things to try, and Ronal was turning into your only hope. You caught her eyes, silently begging her to stay.
"Remove these things." She finally said, glaring down at Max and Norm.
"Out!" Neytiri growled. "You have done nothing!" She began picking things up and attempting to shoo the men outside.
"Come on, let's just take a break." Jake said quickly, ducking out the door.
"Okay, hold on! I have to take her IV out!" Norm said, rushing to get everything off of Kiri. You patted his arm in thanks as he made his way outside as well. Ronal was quick in getting her materials ready, beginning the process of a ritual you had never witnessed before. The air was tense as she worked, chanting and calling upon Eywa for aid. It was mesmerizing to watch her, though your focus remained primarily on your sister's face, waiting with baited breath for any sign of consciousness.
Finally, after what felt like years, Kiri's eyes fluttered. Your heart nearly burst out of your chest, leaning forward to grasp her hand.
"You're awake!" You breathed happily, using your free hand to gently caress her forehead, brushing some hair out of the way. Her gaze briefly flickered around the room before she began to cry, causing your heart to clench. Tears welled in your own eyes, and you fought against them, not wanting anything to blur your vision even for a moment.
"Are you ever going to let me out of sight?" Kiri questioned playfully, quirking an eyebrow in your direction. You smiled, shaking your head.
"Nope." The answer was a no-brainer. You quite literally hadn't spent a second away from your twin since she had woken up the previous day. While the rest of your family had fallen back into a semi-normal routine, you were intent upon staying with Kiri all day in the marui, even when she insisted she was feeling just fine.
"I'm not a baby, [Y/N]."
"I didn't say you were."
"Okay, but I'm not fragile either. We can't just stay holed up in here for the rest of our lives." She shot you a pointed look, growing serious.
"I know that," You sighed. "But what if I'm not there if something happens again?" The thought made your blood run cold. "I've already got enough guilt to last the rest of my life." You finished quietly, fidgeting with your fingers. Kiri's eyebrows furrowed.
"Guilt? [Y/N], what happened to me wasn't your fault. I know you think you're responsible for me, but there was nothing you could have done." She placed a hand on your arm and you looked up, meeting her eyes. "Besides, you've been hovering over me this whole time, I can guarantee that you're the world's most devoted sister." She chuckled, though you only felt worse at this, cringing a little. You had been holding in your shame for nearly two days now, and it finally came bursting to the surface in the form of a messy confession.
"I wasn't with you that night, Ki." You bit your lip before continuing. "I mean, I was, but then I started freaking out at everyone because nobody could figure out what was wrong. I only wanted to step out for a little while, just to calm down, you know?" Kiri was listening calmly, hand still resting reassuringly on your arm. "And Ao'nung was out there too, and I was crying and being hysterical and he was actually being nice for once and-"
"Oh my Eywa, he was being nice?!" Kiri's hand shot up to cover her mouth, gasping dramatically. You had to pause to process the fact that she wasn't being serious.
"Very funny, skxawng." You deadpanned. "This is serious!"
"Okay, okay, sorry!" She chuckled. "Please, continue."
"Well.. Actually that's pretty much it. Being around him was like this escape from reality, and I didn't want to go back home because I knew that meant having to think about what would happen if you- If you didn't make it or something." You swallowed thickly.
"Okay... so that's all? The moral of the story is that Ao'nung isn't as much of a douchebag as you thought?"
"No." You huffed. "The moral of the story is that I was being a selfish jerk who didn't bother to check on my sister all night because I was sleeping on the beach next to the aforementioned not-douchebag." Kiri's expression twisted into surprise briefly before she burst out laughing. The colour in your cheeks deepened.
"So I just bare my heart to you and all you can do is laugh at my stupidity?" You groaned, laying your back against the floor as you threw an arm over your eyes. However, Kiri's lighthearted reaction was making you feel a lot better. If she wasn't mad at you then maybe you didnât have to feel so bad.
"Sorry," Kiri managed between laughs, eventually moving to lay down beside you when she gained some composure. "I just think youâre way too hard on yourself. I mean, sure, falling asleep alone with Ao'nung was a little scandalous, but you didn't really do anything wrong." She turned to her side to face you, propping up on her elbow. You did the same.
"I left you alone." You whispered, and her expression shifted into sympathy.
"You left me with our family, [Y/N]. You left because you needed help. It isn't a crime to react poorly when you're scared." The look she gave you was effective in melting the last of your guilt away, relieving some of the long-held tension in your muscles. You smiled gratefully.
"Thank you, Ki." And she smiled too, both of you taking in the quiet moment together. With Kiri, that moment didn't last too long.
"So, are you and Ao'nung exclusive now, or what?" She grinned as you rolled your eyes.
"Definitely not. Actually... I kind of snapped at him yesterday. Told him that night was a mistake and to leave me alone."
"What! Did you mean alone or alone, alone?" She questioned while you furrowed your brow in confusion.
"I guess at the time I meant alone, alone. I was really mad." You grimaced, remembering the look on Ao'nung's face after you had yelled at him.
"But you didn't mean it?"
"Well, no, I guess not." You shrugged. "But maybe it's a good thing, Ki. Everything that's ever happened between us has been so crazy and messy. It's probably for the best that we just stop trying to be... anything. Friends or otherwise." The words felt like a knife in the gut. You stared down at the ground, trying to convince yourself that you were right.
"You don't mean that." Kiri chided, her brow furrowing as she searched your eyes. "I know we always tease you, but I actually thought you really liked being around him."
I do. You thought painfully. I really do.
"It doesn't matter. He probably hates me now, for real this time." Your eyes darkened at the thought.
The arrival of your birthday was both exciting and deeply irritating. On one hand, you loved that you got to celebrate Kiri, and this time around felt extra special because of what she had just survived only days earlier. It was sort of a celebration of her recovery as well as her birthday. That being said, you hated the fact that people also insisted on celebrating you as well. Itâs not that you didnât appreciate the sentiment, but something about having everyoneâs attention on you, showering you with an abundance of love and affection, was just not your thing.
So, when Tuk accidentally let it slip to you and Kiri that there was going to be a surprise party with everyone in the village invited, it was safe to say you were mortified. You had taken the entirety of the afternoon to sit in the sand by yourself and contemplate the best way to avoid the large gathering at all costs.
âYouâre not getting out of this, you know.â Neteyam arrived silently from behind you, shooting you a pointed look as he sat down. âMom and dad have this whole thing planned out. They even got Tonowari and Ronal on board.â
You groaned. âSo thatâs why this stupid thing is a community event?â
âTonowari seemed strangely excited to make it into a big celebration.â Neteyam chuckled. âHe kept talking about how itâs going to be so much fun to have music and dancing and a whole bunch of food and-â
âOkay, okay, I get it! Why do you insist on torturing me?â You moaned dramatically while Neteyam just laughed.
âWhere was Kiri just now?â You changed the subject quickly when you noticed her returning from the village, coming from the opposite direction of your familyâs marui. She had told you she was going to nap before the party.
âOh- um- nowhere.â Neteyam was a notoriously bad liar. You raised an eyebrow, but before you could say anything, you noticed Loâak, Tsireya, Rotxo, and Aoânung appear behind your sister, seemingly following her somewhere. They didnât seem to notice where you sat, suspiciously watching them go by.
âOkay, what the hell?â You fixed your gaze back on your oldest brother, waiting for an explanation. You knew he had one because he was flushed, clearly trying not to act suspicious.
âIâm not allowed to tell you anything.â He admitted, a nervous laugh leaving his lips.
âFine.â It took everything in you not to keep badgering him. He may not have been a good liar, but he was not one to tell other peopleâs secrets. âBut if I find out that it has anything to do with my birthday, Iâm going to kill you and Loâak.â
âWhat! But it was Kiriâs idea!â Neteyam said offendedly.
âAnd you and Loâak were stupid enough to go along with it,â You quipped. âPlus, itâs her birthday. Itâs just bad manners to kill someone on their birthday.â
Neteyam laughed. âOkay, crazy. But itâs your birthday too, you know.â
âDonât remind me.â You scowled.
â[Y/N]!â Your father called from behind you and Neteyam, squinting in the sunlight as his gaze fixed on the two of you. âCome! We need to get going soon!â He beckoned you over with a hand gesture and you sighed, allowing Neteyam to help pull you upright. You dragged your feet as you walked, hoping to prolong the inevitable.
âNeteyam, will you please get Kiri and Loâak?â Jake asked when you got closer, and the boy obediently dashed off in the other direction. Your fingers twitched as you thought about following.
âDonât even think about it.â Jake laughed, throwing his arm across your shoulders as if to keep you on path with him. You rolled your eyes.
âI wasnât thinking about anything.â
âSure you werenât.â
By the time everyone in your family had been rounded up, the sun had started to sink below the horizon. The darkness was anticipated, however, as a large glowing bonfire had been lit on the sand, casting a surprising amount of light all along the beach. Thankfully, the festivities had begun without any mention of you or Kiri, so you relaxed a little and tried to stay out of the middle of things. It felt more like a community get-together than a birthday party, to which you were grateful. You even started enjoying yourself a bit, eating some of the wonderful food as you soaked in the warmth of the fire and focused on the music through the chatter of the crowd.
â[Y/N]!â You heard someone call and you ripped your gaze from the fire, looking around. Tsireya stood a few feet away, smiling as she held out her hand toward you. âWeâve been looking for you! Come stand with us!â She beckoned, and you tried not to look reluctant as you followed her over to where your friends and siblings were. They had formed a sort of circle and were talking and laughing animatedly as you took a spot between Tsireya and Kiri.
Aoânung was standing almost directly across from you while he talked with Rotxo, and it was hard to keep yourself from staring at him through the fire light. You'd seen him around the village over the past week, but neither of you had approached the other at all. He hadnât even looked your way once in that time, which put a tiny crack in your heart. You missed the way he used to devour you with his eyes, the resulting feeling both intimidating and electrifying at the same time.
Just when you were about to look away, he abruptly turned and met your gaze. Something flickered in his eyes, and you convinced yourself you imagined it as the ghost of a smirk played at his lips. Your heart was pounding so hard you could feel it in your throat. So much for missing that feeling.
â[Y/N]?â Kiri nudged you, effectively snapping you out of it. Colour rose to your cheeks, particularly when you didnât feel Aoânungâs gaze leave you even as you turned toward Kiri.
âHm?â
âI said are you having fun?â She was clearly trying to hold in a laugh. You narrowed your eyes.
âI guess this isnât so bad.â You admitted after a few seconds of silence, glancing around the beach. As your head swivelled, you confirmed through peripheral vision that Aoânung was still staring at you, though he was now talking casually with Loâak and Rotxo. You shivered slightly.
âNo oneâs wished me happy birthday yet, so I would call that a win.â You smiled a bit, but quickly dropped it when Kiri gave you a nervous grin.
âDonât kill me, but I overheard dad saying that Tonowari was going to-â As if she had spoken it into existence, Tonowari suddenly called out a request for everyone to quiet down, stepping forward into the middle of the beach, glowing in the firelight.
âMy people!â He grinned, spreading his hands wide in greeting. âI am glad to see everyone enjoying tonightâs festivities. While we need no reason to come together and celebrate, I do want to speak on what the celebration tonight is in honour of.â Your heart dropped out of your chest and flopped around pitifully on the sand. Tonowari turned to where you and Kiri stood, grinning widely as he beckoned for the two of you to stand by him. Kiri grabbed your hand, squeezing it lightly. While she smiled and accepted the spotlight gracefully, you imagined your expression resembled dread mixed with painful awkwardness. It was all you could do not to visibly cringe at the hundreds of eyes trained on you. However, only one pair really seemed to pierce directly into you, the intensity of it reminding you of the day you had first arrived here. Just like that day, he appeared to be seeing something about you that no one else was allowed to. It offered you a strange sort of steadiness.
âFirst, I would like to thank Eywa for the recovery of this young woman!â Tonowari placed a gentle hand on your sisterâs shoulder. âWe celebrate her health tonight.â You managed a small smile as everyone cheered, sharing a look with Kiri. You gripped her hand a little bit tighter. âAnd, of course, we thank Eywa for bringing the Sully family here to us. It is hard to accept change, but this has been a welcome one indeed. Join me in celebrating [Y/N] and Kiri on this wonderful day in which they were born!â You could hardly hear the cheers of the crowd as your cheeks burned and your heart pounded in your ears. As grateful as you felt, you didnât think you could handle the attention much longer. Thankfully, Kiri nodded at Tonowari in thanks and lead you back to your friend group. Your brothers were cackling, practically beside themselves with laughter.
âY-your face! Oh Eywa that was priceless!â Loâak howled. You glared, sticking out your tongue.
âShut it, dickhead. Just because I donât enjoy being stared at-â You didnât get to finish as your brothers loudly cracked up again, holding their stomachs. Even Kiri, Tsireya, and Rotxo couldnât contain themselves as they joined in. You grinned, shaking your head. âYou guys are terrible. Iâm going to find Tuk.â You spun on your heel, still laughing to yourself.
You skirted along the outside of the crowd, scanning for your youngest sister, when a hand suddenly grasped your arm, tugging you into the shadows of the trees, out of sight.
âWhat the hell are you-â You paused upon seeing who was holding onto you. âOh. Itâs you.â
âDonât sound so disappointed, forest girl.â His eyes danced with a playfulness that you had missed, causing a skip in your heartbeat.
âAoânung I-â You were gearing up to apologize. You hadnât planned on doing so, but you found it impossible not to as you stood across from him.
âShh. Just follow me.â He turned, sliding his hold on your wrist down to lace his fingers with yours. You stiffened, eyes wide as you stared down at your interlocked hands. âCome on, freak!â He smirked, ignoring your confusion as he impatiently tugged you along. It didnât take long for you to arrive at one of the little alcoves off the side of the island, just far enough away that you could no longer see the party on the beach and could only faintly hear it in the background over the soft lapping of the waves. You had been in this area plenty of times before, but you had never seen it at night. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
The alcove was cave-like in a way, with large slabs of rock surrounding you and tucking the two of you mostly out of sight. There was little of the glowing vegetation that typically lit up the night on the island, but it didnât matter because what looked like thousands of tiny glowing stars were embedded in the rock around you, effectively giving the illusion of standing directly next to the sky. You gawked, unable to tear your eyes away from such a magnificent sight.
âI heard you saying that you donât like people staring.â Aoânung broke the silence, chuckling a little at your awe. âI figured thereâs no one to do that here,â He paused, smirking. âExcept me.â
You flushed, remembering the delicate way he was still gripping your hand.
âI though you hated me again.â You said quietly.
âI do hate you.â Your heart dropped at his words, but for some reason he stepped closer, his eyes fixed intently on your face.
âI hate you because of your stupid smile that makes my hands all sweaty. I hate you because youâre the only one who puts up a fight when I tease you. I hate you because you actually drive me insane sometimes, and I hate you because I never know if you want to kiss me or kill me.â He grinned. âBut mostly I hate that I donât hate you. Not even a little bit.â
This felt like a fever dream. You held your breath as if you were going to wake up any second. But you remained where you were, frozen in uncertainty. It seemed the worst time to tease him, so of course, thatâs what you did.
âI think youâre drooling.â You whispered, still not entirely sure how to move or think properly in the wake of his confession. He only huffed, ducking down close to your ear in one fluid motion. His warm breath fanned across your throat as he spoke.
âThis is what Iâm talking about, skxawng. Your inability to be nice,â You hadnât realized heâd been slowly inching the two of you toward the wall of stone until he gently pressed you into it, one hand moving to grip your waist while the other flattened against the wall next to your head, the only thing holding him up over you. âIt's driving me crazy.â The air felt like it had been sucked entirely out of the space between you, both of your chests rising and falling quickly. Despite the way his touch set you on fire, you had goosebumps from the proximity. Everything around you was charged with tension as Aoânung finally tipped his head back away from your ear, staring at you so hard his pupils were dilated.
âDonât you want me to apologize for yelling at you the other day?â Your voice came out small, though youâd gained a little confidence. All the time you'd spent convincing yourself that Aoânung didnât like you the way liked him was clearly wasted. His ears bent slightly as he smirked.
âNot with words.â
Oh.
âOh?â You quirked an eyebrow, your breath hitching as Aoânung pressed closer yet, almost every possible inch of you touching except for your heads, mere millimetres apart. The tension was so delicious that you almost didnât want to break it.
You broke it anyway, closing the gap between you as you pressed your mouth to his, nearly gasping at the contact. Itâs a good thing heâs holding me up, you thought fleetingly, your knees nearly giving out. Your lips fit together perfectly, moving in sync as he looped both arms around you, cinching you to him like he wished for you to meld together. Your hands roamed his chest, eventually making their way up to his neck, feeling the soft baby hairs there and making him groan into the kiss. You smiled.
âHappy birthday, [Y/N].â He whispered against your lips, smirking slightly. Your knees felt weak again. Just when he began pressing open-mouthed kisses along your jaw, something made you both freeze.
âEwwwwwwww!â Someone who sounded suspiciously like Tuk squealed, followed by a fake retching noise that you often heard Loâak make. You whipped your head around, searching through the darkness outside of the alcove, Aoânungâs grip on you relaxing a bit but not letting go.
âJust get out of these stupid bushes, guys. They know weâre here.â Neteyam grumbled, and finally everyone came into view from the greenery they had been hiding in. You gaped. Neteyam, Tuk, Kiri, Rotxo, Tsireya, and Loâak were all there.
âOh my Eywa, tell me you did not just see all of that!â You gasped, fighting the urge to rip out of Aoânungâs grasp. In response, Loâak grinned before putting on a stupid face.
âOh, [Y/N]. I hate that I donât hate you! Oh, Aoânung, donât you want me to apologize?â His imitation of your voices was horrendous. âNot with words⊠mwah mwah mwahâŠâ Loâak had wrapped his arms around himself and turned around, crudely imitating a kiss. Tsireya smacked him on the shoulder, giving him a look, though her and the others were holding back laughter.
âWhy the hell did you follow us here?â You questioned angrily before remembering the earlier events of the day. You snapped your head toward Neteyam.
âIs this what they were planning earlier?!â You raged, about to stomp over to him to give him a piece of your mind. Aoânung pulled you back.
âYes. Your sister explained to me how you were feeling and said she wanted to help me make peace with you. We all came up with the idea to take you here to talk and get away from all of your birthday stuff.â He paused, assessing your still fuming expression. âBut I swear I didnât know they were going to come spy on us!â He hissed, glaring at everyone.
âItâs not our fault you two decided to start sucking face!â Loâak cried.
âWe just wanted to see if you guys would apologize and be friends again.â Kiri piped up, and you knew she was telling the truth. You softened.
âWell, I guess it worked.â You shook your head, smiling in spite of yourself. Beside you, Aoânung smiled too, a real, genuine smile. Loâak made another gagging noise.
âLiterally kill me. You guys are disgusting. Canât you just go back to being frenemies or something?â
âLoâak, if you keep being a moron then Iâm going to have to tell mom and dad about what you and Tsireya get up to when-â
âOkay, okay! Geez! Why does everyone have to know my business, damn!â
Everyone laughed and began turning toward the party, slowly making their way back. You and Aoânung trailed behind, his arm slung around your waist as you walked.
âSo how does it feel to be with the most attractive guy in the world?â He smirked cockily. You just scoffed.
âI wouldnât know.â You earned a playful shove from him, laughing.
âYouâre actually the worst.â Aoânung grinned, shaking his head.
âI know you are, but what am I?â
âAn annoying little brat, then.â
You gasped, faking offence. âRude!â
âThatâs what you love about me.â
You pretend to think for a moment. âMm, nope. Donât think so.â You concluded, laughing loudly as Aoânung growled playfully, stopping both of you in your tracks. He turned toward you, capturing your face entirely in his large hands.
âTake it back.â
âNo thanks.â You grinned arrogantly.
âCâmon, love. Just admit that you canât get enough of me.â You shivered at the nickname, and he smirked. That stupid little smirk. It had gotten you into a whole world of trouble. But maybe it was worth it?
He leaned in, pressing a quick, but heated kiss to your lips.
Yes, definitely worth it.

It was a regular night in Pandora. Every evening you would be visited by Neteyam, and a lot of the time the others would end up joining you, and you would all joke around, play games, or just chat for a while. That night, it was just you and Neteyam stargazing while he was sat in between your legs, his back against your tummy and his head against your chest. You were playing with his hair as you often did and he seemed pretty content. He really liked when you would pet his head. Sometimes you'd move your hand and he'd immediately grab it and put it back on his head, much to the amusement of you and his siblings who would tease him if they caught him doing it.
Your fingers threaded through his soft, braided hair effortlessly and subconsciously as you were engrossed in the night sky until you thought you heard a low purring sound. You listened as you heard it again, then felt the slight vibrations under your hand. Neteyam was purring. You had no idea the Na'vi's could purr, but there you were with a purring Neteyam in your lap. You continued to play with his hair and once it was time to head back inside you took your hand off of his head, causing Neteyam to let out a soft, discontent whine. He turned slightly to look at you while he grabbed your hand, and noticed that you were staring at him curiously.
"Wha-?" He started, a slight blush dusting his cheeks, "what are you staring at?" he pouted at you, and you couldn't help but chuckle.
"Teyam, were you purring?" you decided to just come right out and say it. You watched as his eyes grew wide and the blush grew darker. He was still holding onto your hand when he realised, you had heard him, and he sat upright and scooted away from you a bit, dropping your hand as he turned to face you completely.
"No way, I did not purr." he shook his head and crossed his arms and you couldn't help but giggle at how his ears started twitching, glowing red.
"Alright," you moved closer to him, watching as his eyes followed you, "I'll believe you, but you gotta tell me what that was." You were sat cross-legged directly in front of him now, and he averted his eyes to avoid looking at you. How was he so cute?
"Ah, uh..." Neteyam was stuttering and the words coming out of his mouth were gibberish. You could just about make out something about it being a 'herioc growl', so you decided to just go with him on that.
"Well, that 'herioc growl' of yours," you added air quotes with your fingers and watched as his cheeks flushed a dark red, "I think it's pretty cute." His head shot up at this.
"Wha- You gotta warn me before you say something like that! You can't just spring that on me!" despite his protests, a smile was tugging at his lips. He could never tell you, but he liked when you called him cute. You moved slightly closer to him and placed a hand on his arm, gliding it down to grab his hand. While he was distracted by your touch, you planted a kiss on his cheek. You could've sworn you could hear his heartbeat at that moment. He stared at you, red-faced and quite shocked. He was speechless for once.
"Wh...huh?" he tried to form various words and sentences, but all he could do was stare at you. Then, he got the courage - and the mindset - to kiss you back. Granted, it was on your forehead, but it was a kiss, and it was incredibly cute. He smiled nervously at you afterwards and you couldn't help but beam at him.
"You're amazing, Neteyam," you said as you wrapped your arms around him and pulled him into a tight hug.
"So are you, Y/N..." he whispered, wrapping his own arms around your waist. He rested his chin on your shoulder and sighed happily at this new development in your relationship.
"You're incredible..."

I was wondering if you could do an aonung fic where him and the reader both like each other but neither of them know how the other feels and loak and tsireya end up getting them to confess to each other. đ
àŒ*Â·Ë maybe he didnât hate you.
⊠aoânung x fem!omatikaya! reader
⊠synopsis: aoânung hasnât spoken to you and youâre convinced he hates you. in reality, youâre both crushing hard n both too scared to say anything, until tsireya talks to you n loâak talks to aoânung đ€
ây/n are you sure?â
âyes tsireya, i donât like your brother, even if i did theres no way he could like me.â you shrugged, splashing around in the water.
âand why not?â she questioned.
âheâs never even spoke to me. all he does is give me evil glares, and yesterday he called me and kiri skxawng.â
âmaybe he makes fun of you because he likes you.â loâak smirked.
you splashed him âshut up, aonung isnât my type anyway.â you crossed your arms.
âi think you might be his though.â tsireya commented, petting her skimwing.
you hesitated, as you saw aoânung laughing and walking with his friends, he saw your glance and his smile slowly faded as he caught up with them.
he definitely hates me. you thought.
loâak swam over to you, sitting on the dock.
âokay, me and aoânung are okay now.. so, i could ask him if he likes you if you want?â he asked.
âare you actually being nice to me?â
âim serious!â
âwell, no thank you. i donât need rejection right now.â
youâre brother rolled his eyes at your obliviousness and hopped back in the water.
-
you helped tsireya with her chores and talked with the other metkayina people, you had a specific person on your mind though.
âuh, reya?â
âyes y/n?â she smiled.
âwhereâs aoânung? just, usually heâs here and itâs a bit late..â you mumbled.
tsireya gave you a look of sympathy and put her things down.
âcome.â
you obliged as she dragged you away from the other girls.
ây/n i shouldnât be telling you this, and do not tell him i told you this because heâd kill me, im not joking.â she said, holding your hands in hers and rolling her eyes when she mentioned getting killed.
âwhat is it..?â you asked, cautious.
âaoânung doesnât hate you, he likes you! heâs never liked anyone so heâs being stupid. iâve never seen him talk to a girl before so heâs probably nervous.â she shrugged.
you blinked and got flustered, smiling big.
âtsireya, are you sure?â
âyes, heâs with loâak and the others in the sea, if you want to see him.â she winked, letting go of your hands and joining her friends.
-
you took but your lip and tucked a hair behind your ear, you saw aoânung alone in the water. tsireya was wrong, now it was just the two of you and you were more nervous than before.
âaoânung?â
he came out from under the water and his gaze softened. âhi..â
you smiled, remembering what tsireya told you. you made your way into the water and swam to him. âwhere were you today?â
he tilted his head and furrowed his brows âwhy?â he asked.
âi donât know, i was worried. you didnât come to swimming lessons and you werenât at your marui.â
âyou were worried about me?â he asked, almost like you told the biggest lie in the world.
âyes!â you answered.
he looked anywhere but at you and sighed. âi was with loâak a couple minutes ago and the whole day we were just pissing around. good?â
âbetter.â you answered, laughing.
his heart fluttered at the sound of your laugh and he hated it. he didnât know how to process his feelings at all.
âi like your laugh.â he mumbled.
âsorry?â you questioned, obviously you heard him.
âyou heard me.â he groaned.
âno! i didnât, tell me again!â you said, splashing him.
âcut it out!â he laughed, splashing you back.
after your shared laugh, it got quiet again and you two just stared into each otherâs eyes. it wasnât awkward, it was kinda safe
âim in love with you.â he admitted. he realized what came out of his mouth and his eyes widened. he began to swim to shore.
âaoânung i love you too.â you said, grabbing his arm.
âyouâre being serious?â he asked, his lips curving into a smile.
âyes.â you answered, swimming closer to him.
âgood.. because if you werenât i would have to kill your brother.â he said.
âwait wh-â
he cut you off by cupping your face and meeting your lips with his. the kiss was passionate but also needy, you wrapped your arms around his neck, deepening the kiss.
maybe he didnât hate you.

will probably only make one more part
Decided that this part had to be as bipolar as my emotions on my period
You both sat in front of the Oloâeyktan and Tsahik, your parents standing behind you, Jakeâs grip on your shoulder too tight for comfort.  Â
Ronal only glared at Aoânung, which somehow made you feel even more uncomfortable.   Â
âListen I'm sure this is just a big misunder-â Jake started but Ronal hissed, cutting him off. âYour daughter needs to stay away from my son.â   Â
Jake was quick to rectify the tension between the two families. âAnd she willâ you snapped your head to him, betrayal written all over your face. âDad!â âY/n. noâ He shut you down.  Â
You shrugged his hand off your shoulder and stood up, âNo! Youâre my father why canât you defend me!â âY/n sit down.â You purse your lips and stare at him, eyebrows furrowed.  Â
âYou cannot even keep your daughter under control.â Ronal spat. Neytiri hissed.  Â
Ronal looked between you and Aoânung, âYou are not to see each other anymore.â You opened your mouth to object, but Aoânung spoke first. âNo motherâ he was standing now. He stepped over and placed himself slightly in front of you. âI do not understand why you insist on keeping us apart.â  Â
She stared at you; eyes narrowed. âHave you lain with each other?â she asked after a moment, causing the Marui to erupt into chaos.  Â
âWhat?! Mother no!â âWe have not I swear!â âY/n is this true?â Neytiri asked, grabbing your shoulder as Jake pulled you away from Aoânung.  Â
âIt is not! I donât know why she would think that!â âMother why would you ask that?!â  Â
You jerked away from Jake and Neytiri, turning to Ronal and Tonowari but before you could speak, Jake grabbed a hold of your wrist and pulled you back. âY/n I swear if you have, I will deliver you back to the science guys and keep you there.â His voice was harsh and cut through the bickering of the rest of the Marui.   Â
You felt your heart drop, before he could say anything else you yanked your wrist out of his grip and turned back to Ronal. âWhat have I done wrong?â you cried, moving past Aoânung. You stared at her, eyes pleading as she leaned close, grabbing your hand and displaying your fingers between the both of you.   Â
âYour origins do not escape me demon.â She hisses in a whisper, âI do not want you near my son.â She says louder so everyone can hear.  Â
Your chest felt heavy, how did she know? Did Jake and Neytiri tell her?   Â
You pulled your hand out of her grasp and without thinking you shouted âYou are ignorant! You do not know me!â âY/n!â Neytiri grabbed your shoulder and yanked you back, forcing you to take a knee.  Â
"I am sorry for the trouble Y/n has caused.â Jake nervously said to placate the situation. âYou have brought shame to this familyâ He hissed in your ear, you felt tears welling up in your eyes. You didnât overlook the way he only referred to you as your name.  Â
âDad you are supposed to defend me!â You said, grabbing his hand and looking at his desperately.   Â
âY/n that is enough.â He looks back up to the other family in the room. âAgain, I'm sorry for her actions.â  Â
Neytiri grabbed the hand that was holding Jakes âNo daughter of mine would do this.â she hissed.  Â
Your breath hitched, the tears that welled in your eyes now falling. You saw Neytiriâs gaze soften just the slightest before you tore your arm out of her grasp. You wanted to be back home. Where home was? You didnât know. You couldnât live in the biolab, you could only breathe their air for so long. Back in the jungle you had no family, no one who would take you in. Spider was who knows where and you donât even know how to pronounce the name of the planet your mother came from. Any home you had was now gone for one reason or another.   Â
Those thoughts you kept in the back of your head, the one about that day, about your mother, about you, all came forth.   Â
A human orphan living through an artificial body on a planet far away from any blood relative you could have had. You just wanted a home.  Â
You felt your face go as blank as it could, standing up you backed away. Aoânung reached out to you, but you didnât react. âI should have just died on that day at the cliffs.â Your voice cracked, leaving the rest of the sentence in a whisper.   Â
âY/n-â Jake reached out to you, but you smacked his hand away hissing. Without another word or look you turned away and ran out.   Â
You could hear what Aoânung was telling his parents, that they were unreasonable and overreacting, but you just hugged yourself as you rounded a corner, slowing your pace. You wiped away the few tears that fell and took a moment to compose yourself.  Â
You know that Neteyam knows what's going on as he was witness to the initial confrontation, but youâd rather keep this from your other siblings as long as possible.  Â
Neteyam was leaning against the Marui pod, watching you as you came closer. He stepped forward and you could see his expression clearer, Neytiri and Jake were angry, but Neteyamâs eyes were full of venom, he held out his hand revealing the unfinished necklace. âIs this for him?â he asked, his voice firm.      Â
You stared at the necklace before back to him, your eyes hardened, âYou went through my stuff.â you stated, resisting the urge to cry. After everything else he has to go and do this.      Â
He stepped closer, eyes narrowing. âIs itâ another step âfor him.â He was face to face with you now, you could see the emotions swirling in his eyes but all you could feel was anger.      Â
You stared at him before turning and walking away, you needed to be alone, unfortunately you could hear Neteyam following you.      Â
âY/n!â he raised his voice, âAnswer meâ he caught up and grabbed you by the arm, turning you around. By now you were almost on the outskirts of the village.      Â
Your eyes bore into him. âWhat does it matter?â      Â
âYou lied to me.â He steps closer. You frowned âI did not.â  Â
âYou said youâd stay away from him.â He recalls. You purse your lips and raise your head âYou donât get to decide who I do and donât stay away from.â  Â
âYouâve been lying and sneaking away from the entire family!â He said in a low voice.  Â
You shook your head âBecause none of you could butt out of my business!â  Â
âHeâs not good for you.â He states, âIâve seen you togetherâ he steps closer, but you take a step back.       Â
âYou donât know us.â You almost whispered, you were so overwhelmed, you couldnât be doing this right now.      Â
"I know enough, and I know you, this isnât goodâ he reaches out to place a hand on your arm, but you step away.      Â
âYou donât get to decide that.â      Â
âI know this is hard Y/n but you are my responsibility. Tuk looks up to you and we have the entire villagesâ eyes on us right nowâ He maintained.     Â
âI canât do this right nowâ you muttered, everything was pouring in. You couldnât do this. You turn around and start walking further on the beach, calling for your Ikran.      Â
âWhat are you doing?â Netayam asks, confusion and alarm written all over his face.      Â
You ikran flies above and lands a few feet ahead of you. âI canât be here right nowâ is all you say, as you're about to touch Tysia, Neteyam grabs your arm, you turn and see the panic in his eyes.      Â
âY/n I know this is hard right now, but Sullys stick together.â He stated, you felt yourself snap.      Â
âWell, what about Spider?â You know the answer, but you want to hear it, you want to be told what you're thinking is wrong. You canât keep it out of your head.  Â
Heâs a taken back, not sure how to respond but he settles on âThatâs a different situation.â      Â
You felt anger rising in your throat. âWas it? Was it really? Cause to me it's not.â You could feel everything you kept from saying piling up. âCause in case you havenât forgotten; Spider was my brother before you ever were.â      Â
You watched as he breathed in, controlling his emotions but you read him, seeing through it all. After what Neytiri said, and Jakes threats to send you back to Norm and Max you couldnât help but wonder if you were the only one unaware of your disposability.  Â
âSo, what's the difference?â You ask, stepping closer. âIs it that Iâm Naâvi now? Or is it that I was so pathetic as a kid, and you all liked having something to protect?â The venom that was once in his voice was now dripping from you      Â
âY/n thatâs no-â you cut him off. âWhat if I was never sick? Never snuck out with Loâak and Spider, or healed and never took over my avatar?â      Â
His lips parted but he never said anything, he searched your eyes until he eventually replied. âYouâd still be my sister.â      Â
âThen what's the difference?â You shoved your hands in front of his face, âIâm not one of you, Iâm not a sullyâ your hands motioned to your face and the rest of your body. âIâm not Naâvi, and Neytiri has made it damn clear I'm not her daughter so what is it?â      Â
You got right in his face. âWhat makes me your sister?â You were barely loud enough for him to hear you, the venom you had before now gone, only desperation left. You wanted a reason, something that solidifies your place in the family.  Â
Your entire world was crossing a thin tight rope and all you wanted was a glimpse of a safety net beneath you.  Â
You watched him, his eyes, he sought an answer, but he couldnât say anything, his breath hitching every time he gave up on a thought.      Â
After a moment, you could feel the light draining from your eyes, you grabbed the necklace from his hand and held it up. âFor the record, I wasnât making this for Aonungâ you took a step back, fighting the twitching of your lips, âIt was for you. Since our birthday is coming upâ a bittersweet smile taking over your face.      Â
You saw the realization hit Neteyam, how he tried to speak but still couldnât find what to say, before he could you continued. âBut yâknow I donât think it's necessary anymore.â      Â
You looked down at the necklace. You looked back up, deadpanning before you ripped the necklace, beads and thread falling to the sand. âIâm not your fucking sister.â Your voice cracked, blinking away tears, breaking your blank slate.  Â
You regretted it as soon as you said it, your heart was heavy and your hands were shaking, but strangely you felt like you needed to say it. Something in you had been screaming all this time and it was finally silent.  Â
You backed up and mounted your ikran, taking off before anything else could happen.      Â
You didnât fly far, to the top of the mountain on the island. Hot tears streamed down your face, when you unmounted, your legs gave out and you fell to the ground, guttural cries spilling out. You hunched over, your body wracking with sobs. You let it all out, screaming and punching the ground. TsyĂa nudged you, then gently laid her neck on top of you as you cried. Dirt smushed under your fingernails as you dug them into the ground.       Â
You didnât have anyone. You werenât a Sully, and you didnât have a home.  Â
It was an ugly truth, even when you took over your avatar you were still just a stray cat, now just with a better excuse to hang around. You didnât want to believe it, with the sweet words from Neytiri and group hugs from the others, you felt like you belonged, but you always knew in the back of your mind.  Â
You had Spider for a few years, two orphaned humans together on an alien planet, but then you werenât human and seemingly had everything he wanted. Resentment is an easy hill to die on. And the Sullyâs took you in but that was it. Youâre still that orphan girl sitting in the lab, watching everything unfold from afar. Â
You continued to cry even when you ran out of tears, you sat at the edge of the cliff cuddled against TsyĂa.       Â
You heard footsteps approaching you, but you didnât have to energy to acknowledge them.      Â
Aonung sat next to you, crossing his legs.      Â
Without looking at him you spoke quietly, âWhat if we just... left...â your head tilted back hitting TsyĂaâs body, âI know you have your responsibilities but what if you didnât and we justâ you lift your hand up and flip it towards the ocean. âleft....â      Â
A beat passed âIt's a stupid ideaâ you confessed.      Â
Another beat      Â
âThey're looking for you.â He broke the silence      Â
âI bet they areâ      Â
âWe can still see each other though, it won't be as often, and weâll have to be a lot sneakier, but we can make it workâ He placed his hand over yours, his gaze never leaving you.      Â
You stayed silent, thoughts running through your head, yet your mind felt blank.      Â
âTheyâd miss youâ he spoke again. âIf you left.â      Â
You turned your head away from him. âThey would just feel like theyâd have to.â      Â
âThey love you.â      Â
âThey feel responsible for me.â A tear fell down your cheek.      Â
You felt him staring at you, waiting for some type of explanation.      Â
âIâm notâ your voice cracked, âIâm not their familyâ you pursed your lips together when you felt them quake.       Â
He scooted closer, his hand that was on yours now intertwining your fingers. âI know you're not by blood, but they still see you as theirs.â he reasoned.      Â
You shook your head, âNo, they just...â you stopped. You didnât know how to tell him.       Â
But what's the worst that could happen? He's disgusted and leaves? What's another heartbreak, you can get on TsyĂa and never look back.      Â
You take a deep breath   Â
âI am not... Naâviâ you almost whispered. You didnât have to be looking at him to know his confusion. âWhen the humans were expelled from earth originally, a few humans who were on my clans side stayed behind.â you took a deep breath. âMy mother included.â      Â
You didnât dare watch his reaction, looking forward to the ocean and continuing your story. âShe was sick when she went into labor.â the lump now felt like bile. âNorm and Max couldnât save her. I was born too early and got sick, I survived but it had a lasting effect on my body.â      Â
You tried to keep yourself calm, lips trembling. âOne night before the eclipse, Loâak and Spider snuck me out to go exploring, but without Neteyam or Kiri, we didnât keep track of time and wandered too far...We were climbing up these boulders by the cliffs, and I fell...â      Â
You swallowed, your hand came up and ghosted at your chest, tears stung your eyes as you spoke in just barely a whisper. âI still remember the feeling of my chest being sliced open.â  Â
His gaze on you is intense, but you still donât dare to look, scared of what youâd see.      Â
âThey tried to help me, but it got dark.â You started to compose yourself, âBy the time we were found and taken back to the lab I was coughing up blood and running a fever.â you pursed your lips. âThey had prepared me an avatar years before, Iâm just lucky they were able to transfer my consciousness in time.â      Â
After a moment, finally, you looked at him. His expression unreadable, as always, a frown on his lips and furrowed eyebrows.      Â
âI wish it never happened.â You cried out, tears falling down your cheeks again âI wish I was still human living with the lab guys, sharing a cot with Spider and Norm fussing over our oxygen podsâ Your voice cracked, and you heaved in heavy breaths of air, tears spilling out. âI just... I canât keep being the outcastâ His grip on your hand tightened.  Â
You turned back to the ocean and wiped the tears from your eyes, leaning into Tysia.  Â
âYou heard what Neytiri said. Iâm not one of themâ you held out your hand in front of you. âIâm not even one of you...â you whispered. You observed the silhouette of your hand against the slow sunset.  Â
You sucked in a breath when he took your held out hand in his, bringing them together he placed a kiss on your fingertips. You watched; he held your gaze.      Â
He scooted closer and you turned to face him.   Â
âI see youâ   Â
You stared at him, another tear you were holding back falling. He leaned in and kissed it, pulling back he was only inches away from your face. Your eyes bore into each other until you leaned in ever so slightly, taking the hint he kissed you.      Â
His lips were soft, gentle. One of his hands let go to cup your cheek. Again, when you pulled away you two stayed close.       Â
âLetâs go.â he whispered, you tilted your head in confusion and he elaborated. âLet's do it, letâs leave.â He stood up, you followed confused.  Â
âAonung, I canât ask that of you, not realisticallyâ you shook your head.      Â
âTsireya is Tsakarem, she will find a husband worthy of being Oloâeyktan and all will be well.â He assured.      Â
You shook your head, you wanted it yes, but you couldnât.  Â
âThis is your clan, your home-â you started but he cut you off with a smirk. âHey, you did it, surely I could tooâ      Â
You paused before chuckling, falling into his chest, he wrapped his arms around you.       Â
âYouâre so dumbâ you murmur  Â
âYeah, well you fell for me so whoâs the dumb one?â that made you laugh more, you wrap your arms around his neck pulling him closer. He nestles his face into the crook of your neck and holds you there for a moment.  Â
âI donât care that you were once humans Y/n.â He whispers into your ear âYou belong here, whether that be in the forest, this reef, or with those weird science humansâ he pulls back just enough to look you in the eyes âbut I want to be there with you, I want to belong with you.â  Â
You place a kiss on his cheek.   Â
-Â Â Â
You were embarrassed by the scene you caused in front of Ronal and Tonowari, but you donât regret it. Aoânung apparently caused an even bigger scene once you left, blowing up at his parents and storming out after you, he ran into Kiri who asked where you were, leading to them putting two and two together and her giving him a ride up to your spot.  Â
You didnât want to go back to the village, scared of running into someone, but Aoânung convinced you to at least sneak down for some dinner.  Â
You hid behind a Marui while Aoânung slid through the crowd to grab you some food, he was almost back to you when Loâak stopped him.  Â
âAoânung, have you seen Y/n? Mom and dad are worried sick and Neteyam wonât say anything.â Aoânung stared blankly for a moment, unsure of what to say.  Â
âShe will be fine, tree climber, she is strongâ He assured hesitantly, Loâak nodded, patting his shoulder before stalking back to the dinner circle.  Â
He waited until no one was paying attention to slip into the shadows, handing you your dinner. âWhat did I say forest girl?â he smirked. You rolled your eyes and sat down, grabbing bits of your food. He sat down next to you âYou cannot hide foreverâ he nudged your arm.  Â
âI can tryâ you said with your mouth full, causing it to come out muffled. He chuckled and picked at your food with you, you pushing him away when he took a rather large bite.  Â
-Â Â Â
You donât know how Tsireya or Kiri were so in tune to what you and Aoânung were doing, but by the time you slipped into the Marui, Kiri was sitting there, assuring you sheâd vouch for you coming back in the morning and that Tsireya would wake you up early, so youâd be up and out before anyone was awake.  Â
It all went smoothly until you were sneaking out of the pod, light barely filtering in, when Tsireya yelped, causing you to turn and see Neteyam leaning on the far side of the pod, glaring at you both. You stood frozen for a second, holding his gaze, you turned to walk the other way but he rushed up on you, grabbing your wrist.  Â
âYouâre not running away again Y/n.â His voice was strong, demanding, but there was something else in there only you could hear. Panic, desperation, fear. Neteyam is good at hiding his feelings when it comes to âwhat he wantsâ, like how you knew he wanted to go home just as much as everyone else but he didnât complain once.  Â
You sucked in a breath, shaking your head. âNeteyam please-â âY/n I won't let you-â âNeteyam please!â you almost yelled, trying to stay as quiet as possible. You looked at him, the bags under his eyes almost as heavy as yours.  Â
âPlease I just...â You sighed âplease...â  Â
He searched your eyes before letting go, but before you could walk away, he placed a hand on the back of your head and pulled you close, placing a kiss on your forehead before turning and walking into the pod.  Â
Your heart hurts.  Â
You hold your breath as you follow Tsireya to a secluded cave Kiri suggested you stay in until youâre cooled down and ready to face the family.  Â
Could you still call them your family?  Â
You tried not to think about it, your head still hurting from last night.  Â
You stayed in the cave, laying down and drawing your fingers through the water. Kiri and Tsireya would come to keep you company until Aoânung showed up, you laid your head on his shoulder as you talked about... anything.  Â
He told you about the attacks on the villages nearby, how it was Naâvi in military uniforms and a human boy who spoke the language.  Â
Spider  Â
You asked him to elaborate but that was all he heard from his dad, Spider was alive, but he was being hauled around by the humans, now Naâvi? As a translator... You knew his father was one of the men to come back, hopefully that was enough to keep him away from their bad side.  Â
âTheyâre coming after us...â You whispered, Aoânung held you close. Quaritch knows your face, and Kiri, Loâak, and Tukâs... Â
fuck  Â
-Â Â Â
You didnât intend to leave the cave anytime soon, but when Tsireya insisted you and Aoânung come with her follow Loâak you were worried and called for your Ilu immediately.  Â
And seeing your brother bond with a Tulkun, an outcast at that was not what you expected. Tensions were high with Neteyam being present, but you ignored it, focused on Loâak.  Â
You were also incredibly uncomfortable as Tonowari scolded you all in the pod for letting Loâak bond with Payakan, you cringed as Loâak spoke back to Tonowari, tensions between the two families were already too high right now. Â
You listened to the story about the Tulkun, but your brain was still fuzzy, mind cluttered with anxiety and heartbreak. Â
Loâak stormed out of the Marui, Tsireya following after him. You eyes trailed them until they were out of sight, as you looked back you locked eyes with Neteyam. You quickly stood up and walked out before the focus could change. Â
Instinctively, you found yourself walking towards your Marui, your heart seemed to weight down. You were only a few steps away from the entrance, so when Jake walked out, you didnât have the time to react and walk away. Â
The look of relief that washed over his face when he saw you poked at your heart, he stepped closer, placing his hands on your shoulders to examine you. âY/n baby are you okay?â his hand moved to your arm, pulling you closer. âWhere were you last night?â Â
You pulled back and looked down, âI came back, you were all just asleep by thenâ you mumbled ânot the first time itâs happened.â Â
You heard him sigh, he observed you. âY/n i wanted-â he started but you interrupted âI donât wanna talk about it right nowâŠâ Â
You watched you, hesitantly he put his hands down âBe back before curfew.â You knew he wanted to say more, yell at you, hold you, scold you, but you guess he saw how tired you were, how you were barely holding it together as is. Â
-Â Â
Aoânung holds you as the village starts to quiet down, sitting on the beach slightly hidden from the village. He tells you stories as you lay your head on his chest, Metkayina legends and folklore, how his father fought and killed the Akula. In return, you tell him about growing up in the lab, Spider being your brother and adjusting to life after you took over your avatar. Â
âMax likes to tell me I'd be smaller than him if I stayed human, but I think heâs just still not used to me being Naâviâ You giggle. Â
âWas it weird?â He asks. âBeing so much taller and able to breathe the air?â Â
You think for a moment âIt definitely took Norm a couple months to stop reminding me about my air filter, and being almost as tall as him and Max? I would NOT shut up about itâ you recall, giggling.Â
He fiddles with your fingers, seemingly memorizing every detail. You talk a little more, you tease him and he throws sand on your face until Rotxo comes running up. Â
âAoânung Y/n come back to the village now, something has happened!â was all he said before turning on his heal and running back. You look at each other before scrambling up and running to the village. Â
By the time you made it, the Metkayina were demanding war, the humans had crossed the line and killed Ronalâs spirit sister. You and Aoânung looked at each other, grief filling both your eyes. You didnât have a spirit sister, but you saw firsthand the connection that the Metkayina held with the Tulkun. Â
Jake grabs the tracker from Neteyamâs hand and stands on the rock in the middle of the room, he held it up making everyone go quiet. âTell the Tulkun that if theyâre hit with this, theyâre marked for death.â  Â
You slip your hand into Aoânungs, you look around the room, Tsireya was on the verge of tears, Loâak and Neteyam seemed to be lost in thought. Â
The humans are here Â
The RDA is here and theyâre going to take me away Â
They're after Jake, theyâre after the family Â
My family Â
You feel yourself start to hyperventilate; your heart pounding in your ears.  Â
Aoânung tightens his grip on your hand, grounding you. The first thing you notice is Loâak slipping away from the crowd, with adrenaline already pumping through your veins, you go with your gut feelings and go after him. Â
You donât even pay attention to the fact that Neteyam was walking right beside you, you were both too focused on your brother. Â
âWhere are you going little bro?â Neteyam called out as Loâak slipped a saddle onto his Ilu. Â
âIâm going to Payakan, heâs an outcast, no one will warn himâ  Â
You and Neteyam step closer until you're both right in front of him. âBrother it is too dangerousâ you insist, Neteyam places a hand on Loâaks head âbro, why do you always make things so hard?â Â
Loâak scowled âNo. You mean why canât I be the perfect son like you?â he slapped his hand away âWell Iâm not you!â Â
Neteyam glares at him moving closer, but you placed your hand on his shoulder, instinctively he placed his on top of yours and stepped back, glancing back at you. Â
âIâm going after him, heâs, my brother.â Loâak turned to leave but Neteyam grabbed him, turning him around. Â
âHes your brother? No, I'm your brother.â He got right in Loâakâs face, you watched the two boys glare at each other before you stepped forward. Â
âPlease both of you, calm down this-â âAnd youâ Loâak interrupted you âI havenât seen you in days, Iâm not stupid, I know what happened, but you still insist on hiding from me!â Â
You sucked in a breath, before you could speak, he turned around and jumped in the water, Neteyam following after him. Tsireya, Rotxo, and Aoânung came into your line of sight âHeâs going after Payakan!â you briefly offered before jumping in after the two boys. Â
You followed him to Payakan, Kiri and Tuk tagging along after you passed them, but your heart dropped when you spotted the tracker on the Tulkun. You all tugged on it as hard as you could, but it wasnât budging. Neteyam had the idea of using the Ilu and got the tracker out barely in time. The ship was now almost on top of you.  Â
You all dive underwater, hiding in the kelp, you feel safe, but when you watch the submarines that release from the ship, you panic. Â
You dodge the machines easily until one jump out from the side and grabs a hold of your Ilu, throwing you off it and leaving you stranded.  Â
You swam forward, trying to find a place you could hide but you feel your heart drop when the hand clamps down on your ankle. Â
You squirm and try to kick yourself from its grasp. Just as the other arm reaches for your body, Neteyam crashes his Ilu into the glass of the submarine, covering its vision. As itâs grasp lightens, you shake your foot out and Aoânung swims by, grabbing you and pulling you onto his Ilu.  Â
You wrap your arms around him, heart still beating impossibly fast. You make eye contact with Neteyam before you disappear further into the forest of kelp. Â
You needed to talk to him Â
Your Ilu catches up and swims next to you, you take a moment to transfer back to her. You look to Aoânung, after a moment you both nod and go separate ways.  Â
You swim around, avoiding the lights from the machines until you see Tuk fly off Kiriâs ilu. You rush over and grab her, you spot Tsireya swimming into one of the plants, so you follow her. You break the surfaces and your Ilu swims away as you hold Tuk close. Â
âTuk are you ok?â you gasp, moving her hair to get a better look at her Â
âMâfine Y/nâ She murmurs, obviously tired from the events. You take a moment to catch your breath, but you scream as Loâak suddenly breaks the surface.  Â
âY/n, Tuk, Tsireya are you all alright?â he asks, you all nod in confirmation as he looks down, lights approaching. âTheyâre coming, we need to go!â Â
You take a breath and swim out from the plant and away from the lights, holding Tukâs hand tight. You only make it so far before a net wraps around you. You fight and kick, trying to get out but it only tangles you further. Â
Loâak holds onto the net as you get pulled up to the surface and in the air, he tries to cut the rope, Tsireya and Tuk crying for him to help, but youâre dropped onto the ship before he can free you. Â
Before you can even stand, you're being yanked up by the marines.Â
âY/n! Loâak!â You looked up to see Spider being held back by the ship crew. Â
âSpider!â You cried, you reached out to him but the marine holding you pulled you back by your queue, causing you to hiss.Â
âCuz, are you ok?â Loâak asked calmly, Spider nodded before Quaritch ordered him to be taken back into the ship. Before you can call out to him again, youâre being pulled to the side and bound to the railing. The avatars stand behind you holding guns, your heart starts to beat fast.Â
Tuk starts sniffling, you look over to her and scoot closer, âTuk itâs gonna be okâ you whisper, and you move your arm over her head to hold her in your arms against your body. She scooted closer, cuddling into you.Â
The others were still being hunted underwater, you remembered, you looked to Loâak, locking eyes with him. He was way calmer than you, but you could see the fear in his eyes.Â
âItâs dad! Theyâre here!â Tuk shouts, you snap your attention to the water, a fleet of Skimwings approaching. You could only see so far, but you were able to spot Jake in the front lines. You notice Neytiri flying above, but you decide to not point it out. Â
After a moment, Quaritch grabbed Loâak throat microphone and his earpiece. âSully, I have your kids. If you come alone, you can protect them.â Â
You hold Tuk tighter. You watch the marine grow more agitated at the lack of response before speaking into the microphone again âI need an answer sullyâ he raises a gun up to Loâaks head, you hiss and jerk towards him, one of the avatars yells for you to stay put and points a gun at you.Â
âI took you under my wing Sully, and you betrayed me, betrayed your species. You killed good men and women, I will not hesitate to execute your kid.â Â
Your hold on Tuk tightens, you stare out to the fleet and watch as Jake moved closer, the others staying behind.Â
Your heart pounds in your chest, you look to Loâak who still had the gun pressed to his head, you resist the urge to glare and hiss at Quaritch. Itâs only a couple seconds, but it feels like an eternity as Jake inches closer.Â
Suddenly, Payakan jumps out of the water, landing on the boat. Your restraints are the only thing that keep you from flying off the boat, you watch as the soldiers fight against Payakan and the fleet behind Jake starts moving towards the boat, ready to attack.Â
The attention was now off you and your siblings, the crew and soldiers deployed to their stations to attack, leaving the deck you were bound to empty once Payakan was back in the water. You leaned down to gnaw at the restraints, using your fangs to cut at them. Your fangs are sharp, but they barely make a sent in the material.Â
âNeteyam!â Tuk calls out, you look up, relief flooding your chest and Neteyam sneaks towards you. He quickly cut Tsireyaâs restraints and moved to cut TukâsÂ
âNeteyamâ you whispered, he looked at you, pausing his movements, knife against your restraints. âNeteyam iâm so sorry IÂ donât know why i-â the words started to spill out as your eyes stung, fighting tears.Â
âHey hey noâ He cut your restraints and pulled you into his arms âitâs not your fault.âÂ
âI didnât mean what I said I really-â âI know y/n, I knowâ his voice was soft âyouâll always be my sisterâ he placed a hand on the back of your head.Â
He placed a chaste kiss on your forehead before moving on to free Loâak. You look at the interior of the ship. Spider is in there.Â
As if reading your mind, Loâak spoke âWe have to go save spiderâ Neteyam turns, Loâak takes a gun from one of the soldiers lying on the floor. âheâs still in there we have to save him!âÂ
Neteyam pursed his lips and nodded, you follow them as they sneak into the ship.Â
You canât help the feeling of dread that settles in your gut.Â
