The mission with Tarquin Victus is probably one of the best missions to confront two different mentalities (my own as a human and the turians’ mentality). From the beginning it’s framed as if Tarquin Victus lost his honor. His men don’t want to follow his orders, he’s not even sure he can do the mission… And basically you’re here to say “yes do the mission, make them all sacrifice themselves for the cause.” But the honor thing is just… Hard to understand like this, from my perspective? Even if Tarquin got where he is because of his father (everyone assumes that’s the case but idk if it’s entirely true), the error that happened in this mission could have happened to anyone? He made a tactical error, but who isn’t going to do errors like this in this Reaper War? Especially when his tactic was to try and avoid the loss of his men.

So much expectation is put on him, so much judgment. I like that if you take Garrus and Liara with you, they both comment on this. Garrus will wonder how Tarquin will ever recover from his mistake because the rest of the turians won’t look kindly on him, and Liara doesn’t think children of important leaders should be treated like this. Interesting. But the biggest moment that made me realize I was judging this from a very human perspective and perhaps I should adjust my way of thinking was when Tarquin was dead and everyone was commenting on his sacrifice. No matter what I said, Garrus was reminding me that what he did wasn’t huge. It was expected. Like he met the bare minimum, he did what is expected of all turians. So I really enjoyed that sort of culture clash in the mission. It’s probably one of the best missions to understand turians and how they view sacrifice and honor.
