Bitb so Beautiful analogy for being queer and growing up in a conservative / religious household or community and leaving once you’re old enough and when you come back the sweetness of your childhood years is soured and destroyed because everyone hates who you are and if you’re not one of them you’re better off dead. That they’ve allowed people like you to die because of their beliefs and excused it, that the hive can only welcome back what they known and believe in and once you realise you’re not welcome it goes from a loving community to one poised to destroy you if you don’t play along, that others have repressed themselves or died and no one cares because at least they’re normal now/they’re with the lord.

at what point does a clone stop being a clone. Rolan isn’t the kid at the bottom of the Bayou, he’s the man that went to chicago and went to university and got a job and went into law. Does Becky stop being Becky just because she’s an insect now, how do you draw the line between imposter and the new self when the original is gone, they had all their memories, thoughts and feelings and attachments, rolan even made his own, made himself without knowing it. At what point do you look at the thing that became the person you loved and know without a doubt there wouldn’t be a difference between them even if one was an insect.
