thought about someof my old ocs and like... damn how did i not realise sooner LMAO. i had a vague curse idea thing for a group of them where they were like plants and cursed to turn back into plants gradually.

and also none of them were interested in anyone, i never shipped anyone with anyone,, i actually was surprised learning that people shipped ocs together as some love story thing

ok, romance in theory is chill. romance in fiction, media, etc is chill if not annoying when it's written badly.

but i find that personally, the minute i change my frame of mind, the minute i'm thinking/i'm aware that *i* am the subject of someone's romantic feelings, i immediately get that ick and ew and NO and all that repulsion nsjdjndnf

like one time i decided to have my farmer date someone and get that achievement in stardew valley and immediately got kinda grossed out and NOPENOPENOPE outta there, threw the bouquet in the furnace, the second the blushing face was *directed towards me* ewnndjdjcnjenc no no no stop nope nope im outta here

i feel we're doing a disservice to the complexity of us humans' emotions etc. bundling everything up into romantic/sexual attraction/label and treating other kinds of relationships as inferior is bs. other bonds can be significant as well.

I love how like, ambiguous so many Studio Ghibli 'couples' are. They're primarily male/female duos, and it's clear how much they love and care for each other, but more often than not it's never explicitly stated to be romantic. And their bonds aren't treated any less for it.

Idk it's just something I've always held close to my heart as someone who grew up not feeling romantic attraction the way most do, it made the characters feel more relatable and human to me, and while I still didnt fully understand my identity (didn't know being aro was a thing), it helped me better reconcile with it. And I feel that's incredibly important.

(And not just from an aro perspective. portrayal of m/f friendships is rare and something we desperately need more of)

Yes, they love each other deeply, but they don't need to kiss or be a couple for that love to be agknowledged and treated with importance. It's not any less than it would be if they weren't platonic. Hell, it doesn't even need to strictly be platonic or romantic. It could just be somewhere in between and that's okay.
