Is there an faq or a master post where i can get my bearings on what's going on? I see a lot of beautiful art and characters looking different and acting different but I'm afraid to say I'm very confused! Love everything going on though. The designs are immaculate and i am in love with your style

(not a character ask, but i wanted to say that this is the most unique swap au i've ever seen in my life :0 this is absolutely fascinating. how'd you come up with it? like,,, what was the deciding factor as to who was what and where and how?)

[thanks so much! this AU came together as it appears on this blog about a year and a half ago, but the first designs i ever did for it were vriska and dave’s all the way back in early 2021, and at that point it was just a matter of “i like these two characters” and “i’m addicted to swap/role reversal AUs”. i came up with the rest of them mostly as a way to practice character design, outfits and such, but eventually i started to give them backstories and an actual narrative (fragmented and vague though it is by necessity), and it all just kept growing from there.]

[as for how i decided who was where; i started with dave and vriska, and then rose and karkat i thought of right after—those were so long ago that i actually can barely remember those thoughts, i think dave started out as a way for me to try and filter the serket tendency for theatrics through the strider tendency towards compulsive performance and i ended up getting a guy that’s like if jigsaw was a game show host. i also remember very little of my thoughts around rose and karkat from the time of their inception other than i knew i wanted to explore the idea of the whole vantas religion thing through a lalonde filter. but i know i did terezi and jade because i wanted to model them very loosely off of mulder and scully, that kind of obsessive believer/scientific skeptic duo (with the caveat of jade being the crazier one, much like the actual agent scully), and i don’t know if anyone’s picked up on the fact that kanaya and john are supposed to be sort of like a matched pair of carnival performers. and then of course the alpha trolls and kids are just the obvious extensions of those swaps, and they actually all ended up fitting pretty well, which i was really happy about! so that’s where that all came from]

[more than anything else i think i just wanted to do something no one else had, in a way that no one else ever thought of. and it sounds like on some level i did achieve that! so i got what i wanted, and i’m still having fun :) thanks again for appreciating! i love you!]

Are things different on alternia in this au? Because rose is just outwardly wearing her blood color and I think canon karkat would have a conniption at the thought
