Anyone remember standardized testing analogy questions? Well my analogy is that:

Little ttpd: Matty :: Lavendar Haze: Joe

Both songs are Taylor trying to make the best of a less than ideal situation and pretend she’s happy in her relationship when she’s not.

In little ttpd everything she’s describing sounds kind of awful. Matty is pretentious, he’s getting super high and passing out, he’s self sabotaging, he’s filled with dread, but she chose this cyclone. She is trying to convince herself it’s worth it because she is clinging to the fact that they GET each other and he’s saying he’s gonna marry her, so she’ll have to take the bad to get that. But in retrospect she describes it as him showing her off in public and then sinking into stoned oblivion and treating her like an also ran.

Lavender haze is her again trying to reframe things that aren’t really working for her to be positives. “You don’t ever say too much” and “you don’t ever read into my melancholia” are presented as good things but also later she describes him being quiet as “quiet resentment” and “quiet treason” and a safe she can’t crack. And talks about how she was doing terribly mental health wise and he didn’t even notice (my face was gray but you wouldn’t admit that we were sick). She calls the expectation of marriage “1950’s shit” and says she just wants to stay in the lavender haze, but then “died on the altar waiting for proof” that he loved her.

i actually think if taylor swift can sell more albums in her fifth week of an album than your first week of an album (or any week) then maybe she deserves to be #1 on the charts because she sold more albums hope this helps
