My love isn't real.

My love is fabricated from wishful thinking. A quick maybe she'll be the one I spend my life with after glancing at someone that I read into too much. Because that someone had nice hair, and kissable lips, and a body I thought about late at night, and I thought all of those things meant love.

I couldn't fathom what else it could be. I'd never felt it.

And I didn't want to live without love, because I'd grown up hearing it was the most important thing. I was already half broken because I'd never love a man, but if my love story with a woman was good enough, I could be forgiven.

(Apparently, a "good enough" story involves actual emotions, not just sex.)

So I found girls. I found so many girls who could be a potential lover, and then they stayed that way. Untapped potential. Because I could never really be anyone's lover. I found girls I was physically attracted to, girls I was a bit obsessive about, girls who were my friend and I could imagine she was something more. I found them, and I built a fantasy world. I wove a love story for the two of us like it was a fiction book about two entirely imaginary people.

The version of me that existed in these stories was imaginary.

The real me isn't capable of love.
